Roses are Red, Violets ain't Blue (Sabriel)

Valentine's Day oneshot for yall :)

It was that great day of the year, where either you were happy with someone, or you were self conscious of just how alone you were. Sam was currently the latter.

Valentine's Day. Sam just went about his day as he normally did, walking into his work while ignoring any couply things he saw.

His brother Dean had a husband to spend the day with, a nice guy called Castiel. Sam remembered the day they got married...some short golden haired guy had asked him to dance. Sam had obliged, and had actually felt not lonely in that moment...but the golden haired guy had vanished after the dance with only a wink.

Sam walked over to his desk, he had a simple office job, and then stopped for a moment when he realized there was a box of chocolates on it. Sam looked around, thinking there was probably some mistake, then looked at the note on the box.

'Roses are red, violets aren't actually blue...yep I messed that up, wow.'

Sam laughed quietly at the note, before sitting down at his desk and going about his daily work. But in the back of his mind, he was wondering who had given him the chocolates. A co-worker? Probably not. Maybe a co-worker playing a prank on him.

Later in the day, one of those people who ran errands walked over to Sam's office, knocking quietly.

"What is it Alfie?" Sam asked, looking up from his computer.

"Someone brought this for you," Alfie said, handing Sam a coffee. "There's a note with it too."

"Did you read the note?"

"...maybe. Who's the secret Valentine?"

"I don't know," Sam said. He took the coffee and the note, and Alfie left the room. Sam noticed the coffee was his favourite type before reading the note.

'You needed coffee. Dean said so. Anyway, I'm going to try again. Rose are red, violets ain't blue, sugar is sweet and so...dammit I want sugar now.'

Sam laughed again at the stupid note, then went to wondering how this person knew Dean. Maybe it was one of Cas's friends? Who knew.

The day continued on, and when mail came around Sam wasn't really surprised to see a card in there. Sam smiled at it, loving the hand drawn golden angel on the front.

'Third times the charm right? Probs not. Roses are red, violets ain't blue, you are a pyscho, but I still love you. Well I mean that worked but kind of insulted you at the same time. I'm going to add that to the fails list.'

Sam found himself smiling widely at this mystery persons attitude towards this...they seemed like a funny person...maybe if they ever succeeded in writing a good poem, Sam would actually go out with them.

He got to the end of the work day without anything else from the mystery person. He packed up and planned on spending the rest of his day alone in his apartment. He did get back to his apartment, only to have the doorbell ring a few minutes later.

"Delivery for Sam Winchester?" a tired looking flower person said. She held the flowers out to Sam, who took them with surprise. "Your note is a little weird, I think your boyfriend is insane." With that, she left.

Sam smiled at the roses. They were red, obviously, but there was a gold one mixed up in there. Sam wondered if it had been done on purpose or not...definitely seemed purposeful.

As Sam looked at the golden one he remembered the golden haired guy from Dean and Cas's wedding...but it couldn't be him.

Sam opened the note, smiling before he even read it.

'Roses are gay, this poem is gayer, but we're all gay so that makes it okay. I gave up before I even started on that one, can you tell?'

Sam just laughed again, wanting to know who the person behind it was more and more. But he had no way to track this person down, and maybe they had more things planned.

Nothing happened for several hours, even though Sam was waiting expectantly for something else from the mysterious valentine. Who seemed to be a guy after that last note.

Eventually Sam got a phone call, and was actually disappointed when he saw it was only Dean.

"Dean?" Sam said, picking up the phone. "Not out with Cas?"

"Well we would be out," Dean said, and Sam could tell he was annoyed. "But Cas's brother decided to show up and break into our house. Could you stop by and kidnap him or something?"

"You're not trying to set me up are you?"

"No I want this short idiot out of my house."

Sam stopped at the word short. Maybe... "Okay fine, I'll be over soon."

"Thanks Sammy." Dean hung up.

Sam thought this over for a moment...maybe it was the short golden haired guy from the wedding, it would make sense if it was Cas's brother...although it wasn't at all likely that that was the person sending things to Sam.

Sam drove over to Dean and Cas's house, walking in without knocking.

"You suck at this Gabriel."

"Shut up, like you could do any better."

Sam walked into the living room to see Dean, Cas, and the golden haired shorty lying on the couch.

"Sammy!" Dean said. "Please rid us of this thing so we can do other things."

"Riight," Sam said, looking at the golden haired guy.

"Remember me bucko?" he said with a smirk. "Name's Gabriel."

"Sam," Sam said with a smile.

"Gabriel was trying to write poetry," Cas said, and Gabe went red in an instant. "He's not very good at it."

No way, Sam thought. Maybe...is it him?

"You guys can't do better," Gabe muttered.

"No but we have pick up lines," Dean said. "Cas. Are you the Impala, coz I'd ride you all night long."

"Dean," Cas said. "Roses are red, my eyes are blue, if it's my last night on earth, can I spend it with you?"

"Screw you guys," Gabe said, rolling his eyes.

"Okay, Sam take this bitch away, we have things to do."

"Fine," Sam said, rolling his eyes. "Gabriel?" Gabe nodded and walked over to Sam, then followed him out to the car.

"Where are we going?" Gabe asked.

"I don't know," Sam said. "Where do you live?"

"In a hotel room that I was kicked out of yesterday."

"Oh...I guess you can stay at my place."

"Thank you Sammy."

"Don't call me Sammy."

"Fine Samsquatch," Gabe said, smirking. Sam sighed.

They were silent for a few minutes. "Hey Gabriel...do you remember Dean and Cas's wedding?"

"How could I forget?" Gabe said.

"You just left," Sam muttered.

"I know," Gabe said. "I didn't know what to say..."

Sam just sighed.

They got to Sam's house a few minutes later and went inside, Gabe flopping down onto the couch.

"So why were you trying to write poems?" Sam asked, trying to see if this was in fact the person giving him notes all day. He noticed how Gabe's eyes lingered on the flowers sitting on the table, and also noticed that the gold flower did in fact perfectly match Gabe's hair.

"Valentine's day," Gabe said. "Trying not to be alone."

"Did it work?"

"No idea."

Sam just shrugged and went and got his laptop, sitting on the other couch while Gabe just stared up at the ceiling while laying on his back.

"Hey Sammy. Fez's are red, the Tardis is blue, bowties are cool, and so are you."

Sam froze for a moment. Gabe had just done one of those poems that the mystery person had been doing.

"You get that reference right?"

"Of course I do, who in their right mind wouldn't?"

"Insane people?"

"I think the fandom is insane."

"You have a point."

Sam smiled at Gabe, who returned the smile happily.

"Do you have paper?" Gabe asked suddenly.

"Uh yeah," Sam said, grabbing Gabe a piece of paper and a pen. He went back to his laptop as Gabe wrote something out.

After a few minutes, Gabe moved to sit beside Sam and handed him the piece of paper. Sam gave him a look of confusion, then recognized the writing on the note.

'Okay, one last try. Roses are red, violets ain't blue, I left you at the dance, but I still adore you.'

Sam smiled widely as he read the actual good poem and looked up at Gabe who was giving him a sort of nervous look.

"So that's been you all day?" Sam asked him.

"Yeah," Gabe said. "I kinda wanted to see you again after the wedding, so I called Cas and talked to Dean and so on. So did I do a good poem?"

Sam laughed. "Yeah Gabe, you did."

"You called me Gabe."

"Yeah..."

Gabe smiled at him. "Hey Sammy, be my Valentine?"

"Yes," Sam replied. Gabe smiled again, looking up into Sam's eyes. Sam's heart skipped a beat as he realized how close they were, and how beautiful Gabe's eyes were.

"What would you do if I kissed you right now?" Gabe asked, his eyes glancing down to Sam's lips.

"Probably kiss you back," Sam said.

"Soo you wouldn't freak out or anything? I mean, technically we met today."

"Nope."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

"Definitely absolutely sur—"

"Oh shut up." Sam closed the gap between them, pressing his lips to Gabe's. Gabe responded enthusiastically, grabbing Sam's collar and pulling him closer.

They broke apart after a few moments, both of them smiling wide.

The rest of the night was spent sitting on the couch, curled together, watching Netflix and occasionally making out.

When they were both tired and about to fall asleep, Gabe nudged Sam gently.

"Hey Sam?"

"Yeah?"

"Happy Valentine's Day."
