Prologue: Hope's Peak Academy?

My head hurts and my vision is blurry as I wake up. I'm currently in what looks like a dorm room laying on a bed. This room is unfamiliar, and I don't know where I am. The room is fairly bright thanks to the ceiling light. I notice there is no natural light coming in, and glancing at where the windows are supposed to be I can see why. They're boarded up by thick metal plates. I get up and try to pull them off, but soon realise I can't. Damn, I wonder why they're like that. I look around a little more, seeing a camera pointed at me. I look away, feeling uncomfortable. I leave the room quickly to look around more.

Oh, how stupid of me. I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Carlo Francis, and I'm the Ultimate Gamer. I love to play video games (obviously) and I'm kinda shy.

I close the door behind me and notice a small sign with my name on the door. 'Weird...' I thought to myself before looking around the corridor. There are other doors identical to mine, although I can tell each one has a different name to mine. A short girl comes out of the room opposite mine and looks at me.
"Hello?" I ask her hesitantly, hoping to get my attention. She looks at me, smiling a little. I immediately notice her cool heterochromial eyes looking up at me.
"Oh, hello. What's your name?" She asks. I can kinda tell she's just as confused as I am. Clearly she knows nothing about what's going on either.
"Cupa Kurosagi." She tells me. I know that name from somewhere, she's the Ultimate Performer. I've seen her perform once or twice online, but that's about it. I've never seen her do a live performance. "What's your name?" She asks me, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Uhh... Carlo Francis." I tell her awkwardly, assuming my awkwardness is the reason she's giggling. Her giggle is cute- I mean, umm... that's awkward. Lets forget I ever said that. Before either of us can say another word, we hear an announcement.
"All students are to assemble in the gymnasium immediately!" The voice tells us. We look at each other awkwardly.
"Lets get going." Cupa suggests. I nod my head and begin to walk out of the dorm house and into the main academy building with her. It soon becomes clear that neither of us have any idea where the gymnasium is, so we can only hope we're going the right way.

We open the gymnasium doors and look around. The gym windows are also blocked by the same metal plates as in my room. There is a stage with a podium at the back of the room, and bleachers on the left and right walls. Inside the room there are more people. That brings the total number of us up to 16. There is an unpleasant atmosphere in this room, like terrible things have and are about to happen.
"What are we even doing here?" A girl eventually asked, looking around. She had red hair and a star tattoo on her cheek. She also had two different coloured eyes, similar to Cupa.
"We all have to stay calm. I'm sure we'll find out what this is about soon." A boy said. He sounded authoritative, and dressed smartly so I can assume he's wealthy. He has brown styled hair and greenish eyes. "Why don't we at least gather around and introduce ourselves?" He suggests. That doesn't seem like such a bad idea, even though I personally don't plan to stay here too long. The group seems to have similar ideas, as we all gather around him. "I'll start. My name is Leon Montgomery, and I'm the Ultimate Student Council Member." He introduced himself. He looked over at the boy next to him to introduce himself
"Um, I'm Naseko Hisaki, and I'm the Ultimate Peacekeeper." He smiled at us. We continue to go around the circle introducing ourselves. I can't help but get this unnerving feeling of deja vu as the others introduce themselves. It's like I know everyone, but I've never seen any of them before today. Its so weird. Before I can think about it anymore there is a loud noise near the podium on the stage at the back of the gym. We all turn to look, and see a weird bear stood on it.
"I know what you're all thinking, and no. I'm not a high-tech Build-a-Bear reject." The bear tells us in an eerily high pitched voice. "My name's Monokuma, and I'm the headmaster of this prestigious academy. I just want to say a few words about all your new lives here within the academy walls for an... indefinite time period. Simply, you will live the rest of your lives here." He tells us, and everyone is shocked.
"T-The rest of our lives?" Sarah asked nervously as we all kept our eyes on the monochrome bear. "What about our families?"
"This academy is completely cut off, so you can kiss that goodbye." Monokuma laughs. I suddenly think about my father, I hope he's okay. Being trapped here means I won't get to see him ever again, and that will be the hardest part about being trapped here I know. "It's not like there isn't a way out of here or anything..." That gets mine and everyone else's attention. There's a way out, a way to go home to my father. "All you have to do is graduate!"
"Graduate?" Flora asks curiously. Part of me is convinced this isn't going to be a regular graduation. Not at all. Our attention stays with Monokuma as he explains the graduation process.
"You guys are responsible for keeping the order around here, but if one of you breaks the order then they alone can graduate and leave." He explains. Seems simple enough, although the part about the order is certainly ambiguous.
"And by 'breaks the order', you mean-" Naseko begins before he is swiftly cut off by Monokuma.
"Murder!" The bear shouts, making us all gasp in shock. I mean, I know some people such as Angelo and Travis have killed others in the past, but the idea of murder shocks the rest of us. I for one know I will not kill anyone just to see my father. "Beating, stabbing, pounding, cutting, burning, crushing, strangling, slaughtering, hexing... the method doesn't really matter. What's really important is that you can't get out unless you kill someone." Those words repeat themselves in my mind. 'You can't get out unless you kill someone'. This feels like a nightmare, but the more I pinch myself the more I realise this is real life. "It's kill or be killed! Kill kill kill 'til there's nothing left!" And with that, he disappeared. There is a deathly silence in the gymnasium as we all look around at each other, wondering who will take him up on his offer.
