Chapter 1: Killing Life - Spells, Curses and Hexes
I can't believe it. Flora's really dead, and we have to investigate the crime scene for this 'class trial'. Soon we are joined by everyone, including Cupa. She looks distraught, like she would burst into tears at any minute all over again. I feel awful for her, but this isn't a time for emotions and mourning right now. We have to gather clues for the class trial. Suddenly Monokuma arrives quite literally out of nowhere.
"Well, this just got interesting!" He cackled as we all turned to look at him. "Flora... was killed by one of you!" I gasp a little and look around at the others. One of us killed her? One of us was now staring at their handiwork while the rest are wondering who it is? "I don't think I've actually explained this to you yet, so here goes: If one of you gets murdered, the others have to debate who you think is the blackened. From this point on, you guys must investigate and uncover the blackened culprit! Now then... in the spirit of lovely doubt and dovey deception, put your heart and soul into investigating! I wish you the best of luck!" He disappeared, only to return a moment later carrying some things. "You thought it was time for investigation. buuuuut... The Monokuma File!" That's what must be in his hands. Monokuma files for all of us survivors.
"What is a Monokuma File?" Aaron asks, speaking for all of us. Monokuma groans like he's annoyed with having to keep explaining things to us like we're stupid or something.
"The Monokuma File contains precise and detailed information regarding the dead body. I've brought it to ya so you guys can smoothly proceed with the investigation. I'm such a nice guy!" I'd beg to differ. A nice guy doesn't lock a group of high schoolers up in their high school and only let them leave if they commit murder. Monokuma then leaves after we all have our files. I open mine to read through it, get a better understanding of what's going on here.
The victim is Flora Blossomleaf. The victim's body was discovered in the sauna room of Hope's Peak High School. The victim was stabbed over 10 times in the chest and abdominal region, resulting in death. Aside from that, the body has no other external injuries and no chemicals such as poison were detected.
Truth Bullet Obtained: Monokuma File #1
I examine the crime scene as most other students split up to search around the school and the dorm house. Cupa stays with me as Leon and I investigate the body. I notice a bloody knife dropped at the feet of the body, and I realise that must be the murder weapon. Leon agrees with me when I show him.
Truth Bullet Obtained: Bloody Knife
Cupa seems distanced. I gently take her aside to talk to her. Her actions right now make her seem suspicious, but something tells me she wouldn't kill anyone on her own free will.
"Is this what you were trying to tell me about earlier?" I ask her softly so Leon can't hear us. If its important I'll tell him and the others in this class trial. Cupa nodded her head, wiping her eyes.
"Yeah..." She says sadly, looking down. She looks so guilty, and to anyone else this would be a simple trial. Point the finger at her and possibly survive the trial. I can't bring myself to do that though.
"Did you do it?" I ask her, praying she'll tell me the truth. She is silent for a moment, looking like she's in thought.
"I... don't know..." She confesses to me. I'm taken back by her response, surely you would know if you'd killed someone. "I blacked out... and when I woke up... there she was. I was so traumatised I sprinted out of the room and back to my dorm." Cupa confessed, looking like she was hoping that I'd believe her. I know I believe her, but I have to prove to the others that she couldn't have killed Flora.
Truth Bullet Obtained: Cupa's Testimony
"I have something in my room, can I show you it please?" She asks me, looking up at me. I nod my head, assuming its something to do with the murder. At least, I hope it is. I don't want to have my time wasted. She hesitantly takes my hand and leads me to her dorm room.
She lets me in, and searches her desk for something. Eventually she finds it, handing me a folded up slip of paper. I open it up to read what's written on it. Cupa. Please meet me in the girls bathroom at 12:45am. Its important. Saki. I look up at her, confused.
"This note was slipped under my door, but I must've blacked out before I got there." She tells me.
Truth Bullet Obtained: Note To Cupa From Saki
I continued looking around. I know I probably shouldn't be looking around a girl's bedroom, but this is to solve a murder. It simply has to be done. I see something pale pink scrunched up in a ball on the corner of the room. I go to it and pick it up with no objection from Cupa. As I unfold it, I realise it's a pale pink nightdress, but there are hot pink blood splatters all over the front of it.
Truth Bullet Obtained: Bloody Nightdress
I should probably go and speak to Saki about this to see if she knows anything. I tell Cupa what I'm going to do, leaving her in her room as I go to find Saki.
I find her sat in the cafeteria playing around with a gold pocket watch on a matching golden chain. I sigh in annoyance and walk over. She's supposed to be helping investigate, not playing with a watch. She looks up at me, a small smile appearing on her face.
"How can I help you Carlo?" She asked, looking at me with a small smile on her face. Its kinda eerie and I don't like it. I set my feelings aside, knowing I have to ask about the note.
"I want to ask about last night... Cupa told me she had a note from you asking her to meet you..." I told her, hearing the awkwardness in her voice. She laughed softly, pulling a piece of folded up paper from her pocket.
"That's funny, because I got this note from Cupa." She hands me the slip of paper, and i take it and open it to read it. Saki. Please meet me in the girls bathroom at 12:45am. Its important. Cupa.
Truth Bullet Obtained: Note To Saki From Cupa
This confuses things further. I look up at her, still seeing the weird smile on her face.
"I got that note, but when I went to the bathroom to meet her, she wasn't there. I waited over an hour for her to show up, but when she didn't show up. Eventually I left and went to my dorm to sleep." She tells me, taking the note back. I sigh and realise she has an alibi.
Truth Bullet Obtained: Saki's Testimony
"Thank you." I nod my head and turn to leave so I can continue the investigation. She doesn't try and stop me.
Maybe the incinerator would be a good place to look in case the killer tried to destroy evidence. I notice the gate is up, and the key is in the lock. When I looked last night, Flora was locking it. I didn't think too much of it back then, but now that confuses me. Why would Flora have the key, and why is it here now?
Truth Bullet Obtained: Incinerator Key
Truth Bullet Obtained: Unlocked Gate
I look around anxiously before I'm approached by Aaron. He looks like he has something he wants to tell me. I walk over to him.
"Hey Aaron. Did you find anything?" I ask him. He shakes his head, and I sigh quietly. That's great...
"No, but I do have something to say about last night." He told me. That sparked my interest, as this would most likely help with my investigation. "Last night, I was just going back to my room after spending some time with Sarah because she was really scared of being killed in the middle of the night, and I saw Cupa. She had a knife in her hand, and her head was low. I watched from the dorms, scared to follow. About ten minutes later I saw her sprint back crying, splatters of blood on her nightdress. That's not the weirdest thing I saw though. After fifteen minutes I saw Saki follow her, a sinister smirk on her face. She was holding a silver pocket watch."
Truth Bullet Obtained: Aaron's Testimony
That contradicts some things I know. Saki has a gold pocket watch when I saw her earlier, and she said she waited over an hour for Cupa. This does however confirm Cupa's involvement with the crime as much as I wish it didn't. I go to investigate the incinerator as planned after thanking Aaron for giving me his testimony. I look into the incinerator, and a silver glint catches my eye. I reach my hand in, and pull out a silver pocket watch. I wipe the ash off it carefully, and I see it's cracked. The worst part of it was the hot pink blood in the cracks.
Truth Bullet Obtained: Broken Pocket Watch
I put it into my pocket before heading back to the crime scene incase I've missed anything.
I look at Flora's body again, sighing. It's not fair. She didn't deserve to die, not at all. As much as I want to turn away and possibly throw up, I have to be strong and get justice for her. I re-examine the body and surrounding area when I see a smeared bloody footprint on the floor.
Truth Bullet Obtained: Smeared Bloody Footprint
"You see it too, Carlo?" Akame asked, looking up at me. I look at her, slightly confused. "The bloody footprint. It looks like it came from a size 6 shoe." This has to belong to the killer, since its the only one. They wouldn't have been able to clean up the rest if it had been made since the body discovery announcement. As far as everybody knows, Cupa was the only one in here. This footprint proves otherwise, since its too big to be Cupa's. That should help clear her name. I'm snapped out of my thoughts with a sudden and strangely familiar Diiiing Doooong... Diiiing Doooong...
"Ahem, I'm getting tired of waiting here... Lets get things started, shall we? It's the event you've all been waiting for... The Class Trial!! Without further ado, I'll now announce the rendezvous point! Please enter the red door on the first floor of the school zone. Upupu, seeee you soooon!" I remember the door he's talking about. Me and Cupa saw it yesterday, and tried without success to open it. I now know that wasn't an exit. I silently walk to the red door with the others, ready for the class trial.
My stomach falls with the large elevator we're all stood in. The atmosphere is dull, anxious, grieving. We all know this trial will end badly for somebody, and we're hoping it isn't us. This is the class trial to find out who among us killed poor Flora. Its a trial for hope, and a trial for despair. A fight for life, and a survival of death. A test of right, and a test of wrong. We have to do this and find out who did it. We have to so hope can live on in the rest of us.
