CHAPTER SIX:

TEA LEAVES

Seren was miffed, she wasn't happy to go to class and she always loved class. It was time for Divination and she sat down beside her classmate and friend, Sybill Trelawney, a strange young girl who was a gifted Seer.

"How are you, Seren?" Sybil smiled warmly at the brunette and Seren forced a smile.

"Not well, Syb." She told her truthfully, pulling out her textbooks for the class. "Sirius was being a pain in my ass... yet again." Mentally recalling her run in with the troublesome boy moments before class.

"Don't worry, Seren, he won't bug you forever." Sybil told her softly, pulling out her Divination textbook.

Seren turned to her friend, a confused expression on her face. She wrinkled her nose, "I don't get what you mean Syb."

"You will," Sybil told her with a warm smile. "You will..."

Professor Honeyseed began to speak and both girls turned to listen, both intrigued with the days lesson.

Seren wouldn't remember what Sybil meant ever again.

"It is time to read our tea leaves again. It has been a whole summer without the art of Divination in your life! You'll be partnering up today, I'll chose." He called out, brandishing his arms at the cups that rested upon each table.

The whole class groaned and he smirked, "now. Let's get to it, shall we?" The names were listed off one by one and Seren froze when she heard her name get called.

"Seren Lupin and Sirius Black."

Begrudgingly, Seren grabbed her book bag and textbook and moved to the small table that the Black boy had been at.

"Now, read your tea leaves." Professor Honeyseed called out to the class after everyone settled down in their new spots.

As if a routine, the class began to sip on their hot teas until none was left beside the tea leaves at the bottom of the cups. The class began to chat idly as they passed the time. Seren, however, did not dare look up from her cup to interact with Sirius.

"Now, give your partner your cups and read the tea leaves." After finishing her tea, Seren passed her cup to Sirius and she gasped at the contact she had with his hand as he passed his. Her eyes fluttered up and watched as Sirius frowned in confusion, both hands warm at the contact while her heart beated faster. She pulled away quickly and gasped again as Sirius' cup fell from her hands onto the floor.

"Oh Merlin," Seren groaned as Sirius held onto her cup in disbelief. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to..."

"Whatever, Lupin." Sirius grinned. "I'd rather not know what my future's gonna be."

Seren dipped her head down as Professor Honeyseed swooped in with another cup for Sirius, glaring at Seren for disturbing his class. She kept quiet until Sirius went through his new tea and accepted his new tea cup gingerly.

"Your cup shows a broom," Seren told Sirius, looking at her textbook for answers, looking into the cup. "A broom means that you will make many enemies by mischief-making." Seren stopped and looked up at Sirius with an unreadable expression. "Well, that was obvious."

Sirius cleared his throat, uncomfortable with the glare she was sending his way. "Um, you have a chain which means... you have a secret or... you will be placed in an embarrassing position by the discovery of a secret."

"What's going on over here?" Their professor snapped, snatching Seren's cup from her hand at the scoff Seren gave. The young girl turned bright red from embarrassment. She was a Lupin for Godsake she was supposed to be studious and good at academics. She was good at everything but Divination.

"I see, a pair of scissors!" Professor Honeyseed called out in excitement. "That means oooooh, that you, Seren, will be in an unhappy relationship that will end terribly!"

Seren scoffed, "thanks Professor but I don't think I'll be dating anytime soon."

"Sybil?" Seren called out, noticing her friend hunched over by a window outside the classroom. Class was over and Seren couldn't be happier, until she saw how upset her friend was. "What's wrong?"

Sybil sniffed, pushing away tears that were drying. "I-I was stuck working with Malfoy."

"That git?" Seren said in disgust. "I'm sorry Sybil, what did he do?"

"He didn't do anything. It's his friends. They were making fun of me." Sybil told Seren, a pout on her face. She always knew that she was odd but she hated that others treated her differently for it.

"Next time," Seren pulled Sybil into a side hug with a smile. "Next time I'll be there to beat them up, okay?"

"Thanks, Seren." Sybil sniffled, wiping away the drying tears. "You're really a great friend."
