Chapter 30: The Truth Unfolds
YN and Namjoon sat on the small couch, the tension in the room slowly fading, but the weight of their unspoken truths remained. Namjoon’s eyes were glued to YN’s face, his heart aching with both relief and frustration. He had so many questions, so many emotions bubbling beneath the surface, and he didn’t know where to start.
YN took a deep breath, her fingers nervously playing with the edge of her shirt. “There’s something I need to tell you, Namjoon. About everything that happened after I left…”
Namjoon’s brows furrowed as he listened, the pain of the past months still fresh in his mind. “Go on, YN. I need to know everything.”
She swallowed hard, her voice shaky as she began. “When I left Korea, I had planned to start fresh. I got a job in Europe, trying to find a way to make things work for myself and the baby. But… It wasn't easy. At my job, I started facing sexual harassment from my boss. It got worse every day, and I couldn’t stay there anymore. That’s why I decided to leave it.”
Namjoon’s eyes darkened with anger as he heard her words. “Why didn’t you tell me? You shouldn’t have gone through that alone,” he said, his voice heavy with concern.
“I was scared, Namjoon,” YN admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. “I thought I could handle it, but things spiralled out of control. I quit my job, but then… I was in an accident.”
Namjoon’s heart stopped for a moment. “An accident?” he echoed, his voice trembling. “What happened?”
“I was on my way to look for a new job when it happened. A car hit me. I… I almost lost our baby,” YN’s voice cracked, her eyes filling with tears. “I was so scared, Namjoon. I thought I’d lose him before he was even born.”
Namjoon’s chest tightened as he reached out, holding her hand tightly. “But you didn’t. You’re both here now,” he said, his voice breaking.
YN nodded, her eyes filled with gratitude as she continued. “I was lucky. A couple who live here, actually they saw the accident and rushed me to the hospital. If it wasn’t for them, Namjoon… I don’t think we would’ve had our baby in this world.”
Namjoon’s heart clenched at her words. The thought of nearly losing both YN and their child was too much to bear. “I… I don’t know what to say,” he whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
“They took me in after that,” YN explained, wiping away the tears that had escaped. “They helped me recover and gave me a place to stay. I didn’t have anyone else, Namjoon. I didn’t know where else to go.”
Namjoon’s mind raced, trying to process everything. “So, you’ve been living with them this whole time?”
“Yes,” YN nodded. “They took care of me during my pregnancy. They even gave me a job at their small restaurant. That’s where you saw me that day, in the crowd.”
Namjoon felt his heart twist at the memory. He had been searching for her for so long, only to stumble upon her in the most unexpected way. “I had no idea…” he murmured, his voice filled with regret.
“I didn’t want to burden you with all of this, Namjoon,” YN said softly, her eyes meeting his. “I was scared. I didn’t know if you would believe me. I didn’t know if you wanted this baby… if you wanted us.”
Namjoon’s eyes widened in shock. “Do you really think that?” he asked, his voice filled with disbelief. “Do you think my own child would be a burden to me?”
“I didn’t mean it like that,” YN quickly explained, tears forming in her eyes again. “I just… I didn’t know how to tell you. I didn’t know if you would want to be part of this.”
Namjoon’s jaw tightened, his frustration and hurt evident in his expression. “YN, you should have told me,” he said, his voice trembling with emotion. “I would’ve been there for you every step of the way. You and our baby are everything to me. Do you think I’m that useless? That I wouldn’t care?”
“I’m so sorry, Namjoon,” YN whispered, her heart breaking at the pain she saw in his eyes. “I was wrong. I should’ve trusted you.”
Namjoon shook his head, his hand gently cupping her cheek. “I’m not angry… I’m just hurt that you went through all of this alone. You don’t have to apologise.”
YN leaned into his touch, her tears falling freely now. “I was so scared, Namjoon. I didn’t know how to handle it. I thought leaving was the right thing to do.”
Namjoon’s eyes softened as he wiped away her tears. “You don’t have to handle everything on your own anymore. I’m here now. I’ll always be here.”
She nodded, her heart full of a bittersweet mix of relief and guilt. “I never wanted to keep this from you.”
“I know,” Namjoon whispered, pulling her into his arms. “But we’re here now. And I’m not going anywhere. Not ever again.”
As they held each other tightly, the weight of the past slowly began to lift. They still had so much to figure out, but for now, they were together and that was all that mattered.
