Colton had attempted to wrestle her appearance after she had woken up rather unceremoniously at the sound of her shrill alarm. She had managed to wrangle her dark brown hair into submission and it now lay straight just passed her shoulders. Her dark jean jacket was draped over the back of her seat, ready to be slung on top of her long sleeve, black v-neck. The black combat boots that had been a gift from Jacob sat under the table, waiting patiently to be filled with fuzzy socked feet. Colton knew that she still looked like hell and it wasn't exactly the first impression that she was hoping for but she decided after spending twenty minutes of wrangling and wrestling, she gave up and trudged to the kitchen.
She poured herself a cup of coffee, filled a bowl with cereal and milk and planted herself at the head of the table her uncle Billy and her cousin Jacob were already seated. Her head rolled lazily from shoulder to shoulder as she continued to crunch down on the cereal she had just finished shovelling into her mouth. Billy and Jacob remained silent and avoided eye contact with the obviously sleep-deprived teenager.
During the two years that Colton had been living with them, they had learned how she was in no way a morning person and was always a ticking time bomb before at least 11 am. Which was why they kept their voices down as she attempted to not fall asleep and land her head in her bowl of milk.
"Charlie's girl, Bella, is also starting today. You should out for," Billy spoke up, directing his words as his niece who was still not fully present.
"Maybe," She shrugged while taking a swig of her soulless, black coffee, her body greedily soaking up the caffeine it provided.
The bags under her eyes had been a nightmare to cover up and despite the heavy amounts of concealer that she had applied, they remained bruise like and puffy. She had only returned back at 4am after spending a ludicrous amount of time wandering about the woods, confused and frazzled by what she had seen only moments before.
"I'll see you guys later," Colton said roughly, voice thick and croaky with fatigue. She finished downing the last remaining bit of the bitter liquid and quickly moved to grab her bag and keys.
Colton's car was a piece of drunk and scarcely ever worked despite the amount of tinkering that had been applied to it during the two years that she had owned it. It huffed and puffed its way down the murky road that connected La Push and Forks. It let out a series of unattractive groans that Colton internally mimicked at the thought that this would now be her daily commute.
Just as she pulled into the cluttered parking lot that due to it only being ten minutes before class was full of hand-me-down cars much like her own. After circling the parking lot she finally came up across an empty space and sighed. She put her car into reverse and craned her neck as she began her descent only having to slam on the brakes in the last few moments so that she wouldn't slam directly in the shiny, silver Volvo that had just stolen her spot.
"You little shit," She seethed, glaring menacingly at the new vehicle that now sat in her spot, the back bumper smirking victoriously at her.
Colton decided that there was no point in getting into a row with a student on her first day and sighed in defeat before changing gear and rotating the wheel. She slotted into a spot that sat directly next a burnt orange Chevvy truck that looked to be in about the same condition as her own and turned to trudge her way into the building that sat separate to the other brick, house-like building labelled 'OFFICE.'
Th office was suffocatingly warm and a violent shade of yellow that made her eyes burn, but the colour wasn't even half as striking as the artificial red colour of that of the receptionist's hair. She smiled at Colton from behind her glasses. "Colton Black right?"
Colton nodded, remaining silent as she watched the rather large women bumble behind the desk, grabbing papers from various stacks as she passed them. She returned a moment later and handed them over to the brunette with another fluorescent smile.
"You're starting the same day as the chief's daughter, you should keep an eye out for her." She suggested in a cheery voice that Colton knew she would never be able to match no matter how hard she tried, ever since she was a child she was pretty sure her fake smile looked more like a wince and age hadn't changed that.
Colton attempted to smile, but it came out as a wince as expected, and grabbed the bundle of papers. "I'll do that. Thanks."
It wasn't hard to spot Isabella Swan despite the fact that she was just as pale as every other student who passed Colton on her way to her first class, English with Mr Mason. She was short, petite who dark brown hair and eyes that took up the majority of her face as she stared up in wonder at Colton.
"Bella right," Colton pointed out what was already obvious and the smaller girl nodded so frantically that it bobbed back and forth furiously. Colton noticed that she looked like she was about to pass out with the rapidness of her breathing and bulging of her eyes. "You met my uncle yesterday; Billy Black."
Bella's eyes seemed to grow two sizes larger, "Billy's your uncle?"
"Yup," She popped the last letter. "I'm Colton, but you can call me Cole. It's your first day as well right?" Colton absolutely hated small talk and stating the obvious but she thought an easy conversation would be the best way to stop the girl in front of her from having a panic attack. Bella nodded again and Colton smiled in a way that she could only hope was assuring and didn't look too much like a wince. "What do you have first?"
"Uh," She stuttered and shoved her noise into her schedule. "English with Mr Mason."
Colton beamed and this time, it was strangely genuine. "That's mine too, we can walk there together."
Bella seemed completely caught off guard by the girl's friendliness and remained in a state of confusion as Colton began to walk beside her, having to stunt her long strides to match her shorter ones. Colton noticed the tension in the small girl's shoulder and couldn't help but sympathise.
"It sucks doesn't it," Colton stated as they rounded the cafeteria and neared the third building.
Bella blinked up at her, "Sorry, what?"
"Forks; it sucks." She reiterated and shrugged her backpack's strap higher. "It's just so depressing you know and it just smells like someone died." She wrinkled her nose up in disgust and Bella couldn't help but let out a laugh.
The Swan girl seemed comforted by the bluntness and clear aurora of confidence that radiated off of her. She was like a wall that despite the fact that they had just met, Bella felt as though she could hide safely behind.
Second edited chapter, and completely different from the first. I just re-read the book so now it's going to be based on basically a mixture of the movies and details that were missed from the book. Thanks for reading, comment if ya like.
