THERE WAS NO, SPECIFIC REASON AS TO WHY COLTON BLACK'S MIND SEEMED CLEARER AT NIGHT, IT JUST, DID.

It was as if the sun that always seemed to be blanketed by a thick layer of clouds set a fog of disorientation and thoughtlessness over her brain that could only be cleared up the stillness of a dark sky. The air always seemed fresher and easier to breathe, everything was calmer and at peace. It was like breathing again after holding your breath for too long and Colton was addicted to the clear feeling the hours after 9pm gave her.

The outdoors also gave her rampaging thought process a break and Colton was found outside more times than not. More specifically she could almost always be found perched on the ledge that fell down to the gushing river that ran through a somewhat shallow gorge. Apparently, the division in the ground marked the border between two ancient species that had once lurked the forests of Forks and La Push, Washington. But that was just tribe legend -bullshit- and Colton had never been daunted by the stories that had been whispered around campfires when she was a child that were spoken in hushed voices in hopes of scaring the delinquents into scampering through the woods unaccompanied, not that it had ever stopped Colton.

But with the clarity of the night came that full realisation that as of tomorrow, Colton could officially call herself an honourary student at 'Forks Washington Highschool.' A title she knew was not worthy enough to be printed onto any plaque; ever.

Colton had gone through her entire school career within the elite safeties of La Push up until this point and she was dreading the fact that she would no longer be upholding that title. But there was no one left to blame for her predicament and she had to take full responsibility for her actions.

No one had forced her to skip class to smoke behind the brick building only to get caught by the Principal, twice. And it wasn't as if she hadn't been given plenty of chances. She had been given countless at this point and that was all thanks to her IQ and her uncle's connections with the community. No one really wanted to admit how much of a fuck up Colton Black was and how she was tarnishing the golden reputation of her bloodline but she honestly couldn't give two shits anymore and it seemed that at this point, neither did the Principal. It had been a week since she had been expelled and five days since her application into the neighbouring Highschool had been sent by her rather exasperated Uncle. Tomorrow would be her first day and she was about ready to toss herself into the gorge in front of her just to get herself out of attending.

She had never been a fan of Forks and had always tried to stick to La Push and Port Angeles. There was just such a small town feel to it -though it was bigger than La Push but that still wasn't the point- and to her, it had always just seemed like the place that everyone there were just cookie-cutter models of characters that came directly out of one of those High School shows from the 80's that she hated with a burning passion. But there was nothing she could do about it anymore, no kicking or screaming that would stop her Uncle, despite him being disabled and in wheelchair, from pushing her into the front seat of her dark green 1981 Dodge Ram and forcing her to drive in the given direction of the godforsaken building she would no call her high school.

The gorge had never looked so tempting.

A crisp breeze brushed the baby hairs that stood to salute at the back of Colton's neck as she leant forward to gage the distance of the space between her and the rushing water bellow. She couldn't help but sigh in defeat when her sharpened mind made the revelation that the fall would only cause her to get rather wet and maybe a bit bruised but nothing extreme enough that it would be the reason to skip school.

She returned back to her sitting position with another sigh, the sounds of nature that swarmed around her being buzzed out by the rhythmic beat of Arctic Monkeys' 'Dancing Shoes' that's beat thumped within her white ear buds. She listened to their albums almost religiously and held their music in the same regard that she held The Beatles, and John Lennon was holy. The only sound the electric guitar's melody was not able to blot out was that was a loud crack and screech that resonated from the opposite side of the gorge.

It was a highly unusual sound and one that in her many visits to the woods, Colton had never heard. She hastily pulled out her earbuds, gaze wild and back unbearably stuff. There was a distinct rustle that was occurring on the other side but even when she squinted she couldn't catch more than a blur in the dark light. The commotion continued as two shadowy blobs, one crouched like a lion and the other who crouched just the same but somehow in a more human way, tossed about in a loud fury of hisses and growls. Colton scrambled to her feet and then proceeded further away from the space so that even if the squabble between the two beasts -which Colton could only assume was what was happening- did somehow continue over to her side, there would be enough space so that she could get away.

She was frozen, a small kicking voice that screamed at her from the back of her head for her to turn and run, but she just couldn't. The urge to run continued well past the time after the scuffle stopped and the other woods returned to its deadly stationary stance. The one shadow that had apparently been the victor stood over its vanquished foe for a few more moments, it remained so still that Colton wondered if it too had died in the aftermath. But then its back curled and it was standing up to the alarming height of a tall human. It's back a shadow and its form impossibly human like.

Colton let out a sort of strangled, gasp sort of sound and it turned to her, and she swore, she swore on her life, that she caught a glimpse of an angel that night.

So I editing this book now, basically changing everything because I was such a novice when I first started this book. So please give me some time to get everything down and bear with me for the inconsistency. Thanks so much for reading and comment your thoughts if you want!
