I can hear a few voices, and I start to feel worried. However, I decide to listen to what he says. I have no idea who's in the room, but I have a feeling that I don't want to know. Judging by Jungkook's face, he looked really worried.
A few steps and mumbles can be heard, but I'm not able to distinguish what's happening. I place my ear next to the door to listen.
"What are you doing here?" Jungkook's voice is clear.
Someone laughs. "Please, Jeon, you know why we're here."
"I know, but I don't know why you came here, to the gym." Jungkook continues with a dry voice.
"We haven't gotten any news from you for a few days, why is that?" A deep voice speaks.
"Listen, because I'll only tell you one time, and if I have to repeat it it'll be with my fist in your face." Jungkook's tone makes me shiver. "I'll talk with Namjoon when I gain more information, not before. So take your friend and get out of here, and I better not see you around here anymore."
He laughs. "Are you threatening me?"
"Take it how ever you want to."
I hear footsteps, and for the last time, someone talks: "Talk to Namjoon, they need news from you."
After that comment, it becomes completely silent. The door in front of me opens. Jungkook looks at me with attention, worried, but I don't move. He takes my hand and pulls me out of the small room.
"Sorry, I don't want to get you into these issues." He apologizes. "You can't trust those people."
"Who we're they?" I dare to ask.
"Namjoon sent them, they're his private investigators." He says running his fingers through his hair. "They're imbeciles."
"Private investigators?" I say curiously. "Why...?
"Areum, I prefer to keep you out of this."
"You said you would tell me truth, that you wouldn't hide things from me anymore." I get upset. "Apparently you can't keep your promises."
"You hide me from your father, and I don't complain."
"That has nothing to do with this, you... stop changing the topic!" I walk away. "Every time I bring something up, you always change it to something that has less value."
"Listen to me, Areum, please." He takes my arm and turns me around. "I'll tell you, okay? But you have to promise that you won't tell Hyerin."
"But she's my best friend, we tell each other every-"
"Jimin doesn't know either, so I need you to not tell anyone, understand?" He explains nervously. "If I tell you, it's because I trust you."
I nod. "Okay, I won't tell anyone."
"Promise." He says to my surprise.
"I promise." I say without doubting it.
He looks at me not convinced. "Namjoon thinks that... there's a spy among us."
"A spy?" I ask incredulous, almost wanting to laugh.
"A rat. Someone who pretends to be one of us, but is actually a part of the Red Spirits, the other group." He explains altered. "And they want me to figure out who it is, but as of now I don't have any information."
I nod. "Yeah, what I don't understand is... what exactly is the spy looking for?"
"Well... that I don't know, sometimes they want to see how much money we're able to transport, other times they want to see if we're transporting drugs on their territory..." He sighs. "Although I think this is different, I think it's for something else."
"Like what?"
"I'm not sure." His eyes look at me playfully for a second. "But I hate that someone interrupted us."
I cant help but laugh and Jungkook gets closer to me. In a second the air around us turns heavy. He kisses my neck and my ear. I sigh, lost in his arms.
"I love you." He whispers in my ear.
"I love you." I say in response and I kiss his lips.
"Areum, wait," He interrupts me and separates himself from me. "I would love to keep going, but I have to go."
I frown. "Where?"
"I have a meeting with Namjoon; I have to talk to him about the spy." He gives me a small kiss. "I'm sorry."
I try to smile. "It doesn't matter anymore."
"I'll make it up to you, I promise." He says, putting on his shirt. "I still owe you a dinner."
"Don't remind me, please." I joke, a little uncomfortable. "Can you take me?" I ask.
"Sure, I'll drop you off at the diner." He says as he looks at his phone.
"Jungkook..." I call him and he raises his gaze. "I know we've both told each other that we love each other... but what does it mean? Like for us; what does that make us?"
He stays still looking at me, and the small amount of happiness that was in his expression disappears. He looks at me confused.
"You're mine, and I'm yours." He says, making sure his words come out right. "We're exclusive; I don't think about anyone else that isn't you and well... this is mutual, I think."
"So what does that make us..?"
"Areum, where do you want to take this?" He continues to frown.
"Tomorrow I want my father to know that someone is coming over for dinner, because I want him to meet you." I explain. "How do I introduce you? The boy I met and now love?"
My irony makes him a bit upset and he crosses his arms over his chest. "Either way you won't present me. You're scared of what he'll think of me."
I'm not scared of what my father will think, I already know what he thinks. I know he doesn't like Jungkook, even when he hasn't met him yet. I know he will hate his way of life and his tattoos. I know that I won't take Jungkook to my house for a while, but that's not the point, and he knows that.
"That's not true." I contradict him. "What if I want you to have breakfast with my father and I someday? How would I present you?"
He massages his sinuses. "Are you asking me if you want to be my girlfriend?"
I turn red. "I didn't ask that."
"That's what it seems like," he sighs. "And I should go, but I promise that we'll talk about this soon."
He takes his motorcycle keys and walks towards the exit. I stay standing in the place, without moving. When he sees that I don't turn, I hear him sigh.
"Are you coming?" He asks and I turn to look at him.
I feel the tears fill up in my eyes. I can't believe that he doesn't care about how I feel. I've been clear, even though I didn't tell him directly, I left it clear that I want something with him.
"Be sincere, Jungkook, please." I say, containing the desire I have to cry. "Do you want to be with me?"
He nods.
"I am with you."
"Well to me it's important, very important, that you tell me if what we have has a future, if you want what I want."
"Areum, please, I have to go." He says with coldness.
I can't believe what's happening. I'm about to start crying, and that doesn't seem to move him. I wipe a tear that escaped me and I stand in front of him.
"You're scared, I know. Maybe because of what happened with your old girlfriend, you don't believe in love anymore, I don't know. But my feelings for you are clear, and I need to know what you feel."
"Areum, it's not that simple, I..." He sighs, defeated. "Today, I said something that I haven't said in a really long time, something that took a lot to admit, and something that I'm still processing." He gets closer and takes my hand. "Just... give me time."
My chest hurts, and I still have a lot of doubts, but I nod. I don't want to fight anymore, I knew that sooner or later, we had to talk about this.
"Come on, we should go."
I follow him when he walks away, with an anguished heart full of doubts. Doubts that, supposedly, won't be resolved yet.
A/N: I've received a lot of comments regarding Areum's personality and how she deals with things.
They're mostly positive comments, and really, they're not at all critical. However, I'd like to clear up that our protagonist is only 17 years old, and even though she is generally a bit responsible, she isn't an adult. Her reactions are "teenager-like" and sometimes very irrational. I did this on purpose to create a more realistic and "less perfect" character and you're all used to seeing/reading. Giving life to a person with real personal problems and some kind of trauma.
She's human, she makes mistakes, she says things she's not supposed to say. Her personality is still of a child (because she is a child). She's immature and irrational... and in a way I like it like that.
This is just to clear things up, it's not not offend anyone, it was an explanation to many of your comments.
Thank you lots for reading ❤️
