The weather man said that it would rain today, and for obvious reasons I took rain boots and an umbrella with me. Of course when three pm rolled around, the sun was shinning and there was not a drop of rain. I looked ridiculous.
When I got to the bar in the evening and my father saw me, he started to laugh. I mean, I'm wearing a short sleeved shirt, jeans and hot pink rain boots, a courtesy from my father, so I looked like a complete idiot.
"It's not funny." I let out.
"Of course it is." He says in between laughs.
I didn't even have time to change since the place was full. People didn't stop coming in, and everytime I saw a young guy, my heart clenched. Taehyung has been in my mind since he broke up with me, and I felt guilty because of the pain I made him feel.
"Table three!" My father yells, leaving a plate of food on the small window.
I take the plate and take it to a table group of girls who talk in between themselves. They thank me and I continue with my work. I look at the clock on the wall and I sigh. It's going to be a long evening, I was sure of it.
I take some dirty dishes from people tables to the little window so that my father can put them in the sink. But when I turn around, I find the face of Jungkook centimeters away from mine.
"You're going to kill me." I exclaim after I almost screamed my head off. "What are you doing here?"
He's smiling at me, and I see some sort of cheerfulness in him. He moves his head forward to kiss me, but I move away quickly. I turn my head to the kitchen, and luckily my father is too busy cooking food.
"What are you doing here?" I repeat myself.
"I came to see you." He responds, tensing because of my rejection.
I sigh.
"I haven't even told my father about Taehyung breaking up with me, how am I supposed to-"
"Oh, I understand." He says moving away. "I can't compete with that perfect guy that used vaseline instead of shampoo."
"What? That's not what I said."
"Of course you did, I just..." He sighs. "Forget you saw me."
When he starts to turn around, I take his arm in a desperate attempt to make him stay. The showing stand separates our bodies, and I thank it for that; if it wasn't for it, we would've probably ended up kissing.
"Give me time, please." I beg him. "I need to clear things up."
He laughs sarcastically.
"You've left everything very clear."
"Please, what if..." I clear my throat. "what if we go somewhere tonight."
He raises an eyebrow.
"You're going to sneak out of your house again?"
I nod.
"I'll do what I can to save this friendship."
"I'll pick you up at eight." He orders and I roll my eyes.
"You're going to give orders now, right?"
"You know I will." He smiles.
I hear someone clear their throat behind me, and instinctively, I take my hand off Jungkook's arm. I turn around and I see my father with a frown on his face. Jungkook crosses his arms over his chest and erases the smile off his face. I simply stay quiet, without knowing what to do or say.
"Is everything okay?" He asks in an authoritative tone.
"I was just asking what the special was for today." Jungkook answers.
I look at him, and he doesn't even seem like himself. The cheerfulness is gone, and now he emanates some sort of respect; however, my father doesn't ease.
"It's noted on the display." He says while his eyes go from me to him repetitively. "Are you Hyerin's friend?"
He nods.
"Yes."
"Great..." The sarcasm in my father's tone is intense. "Order when you want."
I know that he's holding back something that he wants to tell me, but it's better like that. I look at Jungkook with an apologetic gesture and he shakes his head. I want him to get along with my father; I don't want him making bad gestures everytime he comes around.
"I'll see you later." He whispers before he turns around to leave.
Once he does, my father walks out of the kitchen.
"What the hell did he want?" He asks, mad.
"He wanted to know where Hyerin was." I lie while I fix the napkins.
I don't dare to look at him. If I do, he will know that I'm lying to him.
"I don't like that boy. And I also don't like that Hyerin is hanging out with people like him."
My stomach churns.
"You shouldn't judge people that you don't know." I look at him and he frowns. "You always say that we should give people a second chance."
"This is different." He signals me accusingly.
"You're judging a book by it's cover."
"Of course I am. Have you seen him?" He exclaims desperately. "He has the word problem written all over him... and not to mention all the tattoos that he already has on him. Who destroys their body like that?"
I decide not to respond. When he finds out that I'm dating him, he'll get a heart attack. I never thought that he was thinking those things of someone he doesn't even know.
Yes, Jungkook is intimidating. I've noticed that since the first moment. However, he keeps a low guard with me and I was happy about that. I liked him.
And I'm supposed to like him, not my father. I hoped to be honest with him one day, and tell him who I'm going out with.
For now, I just have to be cautious.
