11 - Learn how to knock!

Jungkook

Upon closing your apartment door after finally getting back home from a particularly hectic and frankly exhausting shift at the café, you allowed a long sigh of relief to emit past your lips before tiredly shrugging off your coat; finding comfort in knowing there were no other shifts you had to scurry off to for the remainder of today, and instead you could merely sit back and relax, using the spare time to potentially read or even catch up on some series episodes you've missed.

Originally there would've been another night shift at the restaurant later this evening, however, due to the small injury you sustained a couple of nights ago, Hoseok in his true boss-like manner stubbornly insisted on clearing your schedule for the remainder of the week— using it as an opportunity to lecture you on the importance of proper rest and urging you to use that paid time off to do exactly that; all in despite of your equally as stubborn attempts in convincing him that you were completely fine to get back to work— though to no one's surprise, Hoseok evidently did win in the end.

Even though the graciously offered paid leave in hindsight would prove to be somewhat pointless considering you still had two other jobs to tend to, it truly felt like a huge relief either way knowing you at least had one less workplace to stress about for the next five days.

After kicking off your shoes and wearily exchanging them for the at-home slippers, you quietly made your way into the kitchen whilst lightly rolling your injured left shoulder— wincing softly at the extra tender feel which currently radiated through your arm and back as you halfheartedly searched to see if you still had a pack of painkillers laying around somewhere inside one of the kitchen cabinets.

Jungkook: Oh come on, don't tell me there's none left...

Luck hadn't particularly been on your side this morning as seemingly everything had been going wrong in one way or another, ranging from the cash register malfunctioning mere minutes before opening hours– to the supply delivery which originally was supposed to arrive at 7am sharp being delayed by almost over an hour, therefore impractically arriving in the very midst of the morning rush hour.

So while two of your colleagues had attempted to sort out the swarm of orders coming in from customers rushing to their jobs & lectures, you were in charge of singlehandedly carrying all the surprisingly weighty delivery boxes inside the storage room before sorting out the wide range of different supplies that were in need of a restock; it was a relatively simple task which was far less stressful than standing behind the cash register and dealing with the horrors of the rush hour, yet the simple task at hand evidently did strain on your injury a tad more than you initially anticipated for it to. However, you weren't one to flaunt your injuries to others nor give up easily, thus leading you to now suffer and deal with the consequences of your strong-willed actions.

Nonetheless, you trusted that the pain eventually would settle down if you just allowed your shoulder to rest for the remainder of today, so you quickly gave up on the search for those stupid painkillers and instead waddled over to the fridge to scan through its contents— hoping to find something that could serve as todays lunch, though the mostly empty shelves and lack of ingredients quickly caused you to settle for yet another microwaveable meal; making a mental note for yourself to go grocery shop as soon as the next paycheck rolls in.

However, just as you put the meal into the microwave to heat up, a startled ''HOLY SHIT—'' immediately left your lips when a very certain someone suddenly came storming in straight through (and I mean that quite literally) the front door— bearing an oblivious grin whilst excitedly greeting you

Taehyung: I knew I saw a light turn on in here, you're home!

The unexpected entrance of the male caused you to clutch lightly at your poor startled heart whilst resting against the kitchen counter for support, glaring slightly at the still oblivious entity before groaning out an almost whiny response

Jungkook: Kim Taehyung we've been through this before— at least be a sophisticated ghost and knock before you come stomping in straight through closed doors!

A soft scoff then left your lips upon observing how the entity suddenly proceeded to stomp back outside, knock, and then re-enter the apartment before uttering out a mildly sarcastic ''Better?''— to which you bit back an amused snicker before nodding and mumbling out a confirming ''Better.'' while still waiting for your heart rate to calm down— a quietly grumbled out ''At this rate you're gonna give me a heart attack, and I have no interest in becoming a fellow ghost'' soon leaving your lips, which only earned an amused chuckle from the other whom crossed his arms whilst leaning against the counter next to you

Taehyung: You're awfully scared of becoming a ghost for someone who supposedly doesn't believe in them you know?

His playful statement caused you to roll your eyes lightly before turning towards him, huffing softly whilst crossing your arms in a stern manner

Jungkook: Oh shut up or I'll—

Taehyung: Or you'll what— push me out of here? Sure, good luck doing that buddy.

You watched in disbelief as he proceeded to tauntingly poke his tongue out at you, only fueling the mild annoyance bubbling up as you scoffed softly

Jungkook: Just you wait, get too cocky and I'll schedule an exorcism when you least expect it Kim.

However, the obviously empty threat didn't faze the male one bit as he merely took the liberty of propping himself down onto the kitchen table's chair right across from where you planned to sit— silently watching you with that stupid smirk of his while you took out your now heated meal from the microwave before slumping down into your seat at the kitchen table as well, though his brows quickly ended up furrowing upon catching glimpse of the expiration date stamped onto the lid you just removed

Taehyung: Another meal past its expiration date? Listen— I don't know much about being human but... that has got to be bad for you.

An evident sense of worry lingered in his tone and expression as he watched you poke around at the food in question— not particularly feeling hungry yet still allowing a faint but reassuring smile to pull at your lips as you eventually raised your gaze to look back up at the worried male before shaking your head

Jungkook: I can assure you food slightly past its expiration date won't kill me— though I do stay away from things such as fish in these cases...

Taehyung: Even so—

The sudden sound of your doorbell going off quickly made him halt his words as the sound caught the two of you off guard— both somewhat bewilderedly freezing up since you weren't expecting any visitors today before exchanging equally as perplexed looks with one another. And while the doorbell impatiently rang for the second time, you quickly whispered out a warning ''Stay here and don't do anything stupid'' before getting up to head towards the door— earning an eye roll from the other whom grumbled out a ''Wasn't planning on it, but on second thought maybe I should"
