A chance
Flashback
"Oh sweet god. What have I told you about not showing your face first thing in the morning? It ruins my day." He snapped as I stood in front of him in his room with his morning coffee. He reacted as if he had seen the ghost.
"Arvind...it's....." I tried to say something but he cut me off by rubbing his face in irritation.
"Oh god not the voice too. Why are you still here and not at your charity hospital saving lives of people?" He groaned, getting up from the bed, yanking the sheets aside. He was just in his boxers and the condition of the bed proved he had company at night. I hardly came to his room so I never know what happens here. My room is on the ground floor near the kitchen, where he never comes.
"I took off today…" I explained my presence in his room. While he was in the bathroom.
"So that you can spoil my day just like you spoiled my life." He hollered coming out.
"It's our anniversary to...today" I stammered. It's our fourth anniversary and this is the longest we have been interacting in all these years.
“So?” He asked, of course it means nothing to him, why would he even remember but as always I wanted to try, try to make him believe that I don't want any of his money. I just want a happy life with him.
“My gold digger wife expects me to throw a party and celebrate?” He smirked, keeping both his hands on his waist.
“Please Arvind, can't you for once try to make this relationship work?” My pathetic self asked the same question for the 100th time.
He started laughing, clutching his stomach.
“Give….this…. relationship….a chance.” He said between his laughs. He was laughing so hard that he had tears in his eyes.
“Seriously? Give trash like you a chance?” he continued laughing.
“I don't want any of your riches. Why can't you believe me?” I raised my voice to get heard.
He snapped his head towards me and came forward taking long steps. He grabbed my jaw harshly. His eyes burned with anger.
“Accha? Phir kardo sab wapas. Transfer all the things dadu gave you back to me.” he snarled glaring in my eyes. His was so close to me that I could feel is breath on my face
“Nahi kar sakti na? Huh? Get lost.” He pushed me aside.
“Aur agar kar du to?” I mumbled with tears in my eyes.
“Kya kaha?” He snapped looking at me and furrowed his brows
“Tum jaha kaho waha sign kardungi.” I confirmed. I will give him everything back. When dadu passed away he distributed all his wealth to me and Arvind equally. Arvind was furious when the lawyer read out dadu’s will. He hated me more after that. He got drunk and called me names, accusing me of stealing his and his family's hard earned money.
He was right in a way, I had no right on that wealth and I have not spent a single penny from it. If given it back to its rightful owner could make my life easier and give a chance than I would not even blink before signing the papers.
“Tum …sachme?” he questioned still not believing me
“Okay then prove it. I will get the papers ready. If you sign on to them, then our lives will be changed, forever.” he announced
"Now if you are done shamelessly eye fucking me then leave." He never missed a chance in insulting me
