XZAVIER's POV

I instantly became alert, got a hold of my hand which was in my holster, when I heard the door open. I hid behind the door of the kitchen as I heard steps coming closer. When that person was close enough to the kitchen door, I swiftly got out of my hiding spot and pointed my gun at the intruder.

"Stop right there or I'll shoot you!"

"Will you put that down?!" I blinked innumerably upon seeing who it was. She looked pissed.

"Tia? What are you doing here?" I put my gun back into my holster. To my surprise, she suddenly walked up to me and smacked me by the shoulder.

"Hey, why are you hitting me?"

"Do you really think that I didn't recognize you a while ago?! What were you doing pretending to be one of the guards?! What if Father Nicolas and the others caught you?!" She was obviously angry but I could tell that she was more on the worried side.

"I don't know what you're talking about, Tia. I stayed home the whole day and—" Before I could finish saying my alibi, she hit my arm and this time, it was harder than a while ago.

"Stop lying to my face! Did you really think that I wouldn't recognize you even with a mask on?! I know you too well!"

"Tia! Stop being violent with me!" But instead of stopping, she hit me a couple more times which forced me to concede.

"Fine! I give up! Just stop hitting me!" She scoffed and then crossed her arms across her chest while glaring at me. I sighed in relief when she finally stopped.

"I knew it. What were you thinking back there?! You know that our enemies are just waiting for you to mess up and use that opportunity to get what they want! Did you even consider that?!" I sighed once again before opening the refrigerator and fished out a bottle of water.

"I know that, Tia. You don't have to worry about me. I know what I'm doing. Besides, what are you doing here anyway? What if they look for you?" I then opened the bottled water and was about to drink from it when she snatched it away from me and drank its content.

"Really, Tia?"

She scoffed. "It's your fault for not even asking if I wanted to drink something or not. I got tired of walking all the way here from Safe Haven, you know." She answered after she finished drinking. I shook my head in disbelief and opened the refrigerator once again to get myself another drink.

"To answer your question; no one will look for me because Father Nicolas asked me to go to the city to get some supplies. Anyway, don't change the topic. Answer my question." She was looking at me like a hawk and I knew that I wouldn't be able to lie to her even if I wanted to. She knows me too well.

"Fine, you win. I went there because I wanted to see what happened to Sabina. I've been calling your number these past few days to ask some information but looked like you turned your phone off."

She looked surprised. "You know Sabina?"

"Of course, I know her, that's why I went there to look for her." Her eyes turned into slits.

"And how come you know her?" I gulped inaudibly as I averted my gaze.

"We just happened to meet at the waterfalls. Anyway, are you hungry, Tia? Do you want to join me for dinner?"

"Don't change the topic and tell me the truth!" She snapped at me impatiently. I sighed in defeat. She's really the most impatient woman I've ever known.

"Fine. You win, Tia. I really can't hide anything from you."

"I'm glad you know. Now, start." I decided to tell her how Sabina and I met but didn't tell her about our intimate moments together nor the real score between us. I tried to sound like Sabina and I were just friends. When I finished telling her the answer that she wanted to hear, she didn't react right away.

She remained staring at me as if reading what's on my mind. Then, she sighed.

"What are you going to do with your plans now that Sabina is in the picture? You know what's the meaning of this, right?"

"What do you mean, Tia? Sabina and I are just friends and—"

"—Stop lying to your Tia or else, I'm going to smack you're a*s!" She threatened and was about to hit my arm again but thankfully, I managed to caught her hand.

I chuckled. "Tia, You're forgetting that I'm already 24 years old. You can't hit me like you use to." I reminded her.

"I don't care! Can you stop lying and trying to avoid the topic! Besides, I don't care no matter how old you become as long as you remain hardheaded and careless, then I will still hit you to knock some sense into you.

"Now, be honest with me. What's Sabina to you? How come you went to Safe Haven just for her? This is not like you."

I looked through the open window of the kitchen and stared at the already dark sky. "Honestly, I don't know, Tia."

"I can see that you truly care about her." I laughed and looked at her but when I saw how serious she was, I turned serious as well.

"You really know me too well, Tia." I released a breath. "I'm just worried that I might hurt her so much that she will resent me. But I don't have a choice but to push through my plans. I can't back out now." My lips curved with a bitter smile.

"Really? So, it's okay with you if she would resent you and never talk to you again?"

"If that's her decision, then I can't do anything about that. For now, I'm determined to finish all this." She didn't answer but I could tell that she wasn't happy of my answer. She turned her back on me and went to the direction of the living room. I followed her.

She sat on the couch and turned the TV on. I was about to say something when she spoke. "If that's your decision, then let her marry Father Nicolas. Don't go back to Safe Haven disguised as a guard. I think, it's better off this way. It's better for her to get hurt now that it's still early. She might move on faster that way." My fists automatically tightened.

Yes, it might be better that way but why does my heart felt like it was about to explode just by the thought of her marrying someone else? Fùck, X. Now, you've really done it.

SABINA's POV

I kept on tossing and turning on the bed, couldn't sleep at all. My head was full of Xzavier. He promised to come see me as soon as possible but he didn't come the whole day. I was expecting to see him again but he didn't come.

"Where are you, Xzav? Please, come as soon as you can." I muttered full of longing and closed my eyes but I opened them again immediately when I heard the door open.

I sat up right away when I saw who just came in. "F-Father Nicolas..." My heartbeat became faster in rising fear when I saw that he looked weird.

He smirked. "How's my future wife?" He began sauntering towards me and that's when I panicked. He was looking at me creepily and I knew that whatever he's thinking wasn't good at all.

"Don't come near me!" I was about to get off the bed when he grabbed me by the wrist and pushed me back to the bed roughly. I groaned in pain when my back hit the not to soft bed.

"You really are so beautiful, Sabina." He raked me a lecherous stare and cold chills ran down my spine. I covered my chest. Even though I was wearing an oversized shirt and shorts, the way he was staring at me felt like I was naked.

"You're really a temptress. I've tried to wait for our wedding night but I can't take it anymore." My eyes widened when he took his shirt off and threw it across the room.

"W-What do you think you're doing?" He smirked and then joined me in bed. I screamed.

"Get away from me!" I tried to get up but he was already on top of me while pinning my hands over my head.

"C'mon, struggle more, Sabina. That's what I want in a woman. Feisty." I almost barfed as his stinky breath reached my nose. I couldn't understand what's happening. His eyes were red and was behaving like a wild animal.

I tried to fight but he was stronger than me. To my horror, he drew his face closer to mine and attempted to kiss me but I managed to avoid it.

"Get off me! No!" I was already shouting to the top of my lungs as my eyes watered. I thought, I was already done for but a miracle happened.

The door burst opened and Sister Lora came in. "Father Nicolas! Don't!" She pulled Father Nicolas off of me.

"What do you think you're doing, Sister Lora?!" Father Nicolas was angry but the latter didn't even batt an eye.

"This is against the tradition, Father Nicolas! What you're doing is not right and you know that! The wedding is in 5 days! You can have her by then!" I sat up and leaned my back against the headboard like a trapped rat.

My tears were falling as I hugged my knees. My whole body was trembling. I couldn't believe that he would actually force himself on me.

"I don't care about the rules! I will do whatever I want to do!" Then, we heard some voices coming closer.

"The other leaders are here and if they discovered what you almost have done, they will surely think ill of you. They have high regard on you and we don't want that to get strained just because of this." Father Nicolas looked at my direction with clenched jaw before he finally turned his back and went out of the room. Looked like he went out in order to prevent the people who are coming to come inside the room and see me in this state.

I looked at Sister Lora and I caught a spark of pity and guilt in her eyes while staring at me. But it disappeared as soon as it appeared.

Without saying anything, she turned her back on me and headed towards the door. But before she could go out, I finally managed to speak.

"T-Thank you...for coming t-to my rescue." Her steps came to a halt. She remained quiet for good three seconds before she responded.

"Don't get the wrong idea. I only did that to spare Father Nicolas from straining his reputation." She then shut the door behind her. My sobs became louder when I was left alone. I was beyond mad and angry. What kind of people are they, especially Father Nicolas?

The rage inside me tripled. I cried my heart out until I fell asleep, hugging the pillow. Maybe, I got tired of crying that I fell asleep even if I was still scared that Father Nicolas might come back.

Then, in the middle of the night, I woke up when I felt someone touching my cheek. I opened my eyes right away as fear surged within me. Looked like Father Nicolas came back!

I sat up, on defense mode. But when I saw the face of the intruder, new batch of tears ran down my cheeks like waterfalls.

"Ina..." Upon hearing his voice, I got off the bed and ran into his embrace. I couldn't believe that he actually now that I needed him the most. His strong arms wrapped around me as I felt him kiss me by the forehead.

"Thank God, you're here." I cried against his chest.

"Just cry it out, my Ina. Cry until you finally feel better." His voice was soothing while comforting me and it helped me a lot until I finally managed to pull myself together. He then carried me towards the bed.

"Aren't you going to ask me what happened why I was crying like that?" I then said after a couple of minutes. We were now lying in the bed with me resting my head on his chest while holding each other close.

"No need, my Ina. I already knew what happened before I even came here. I will never forgive that b*stard for doing this to you." His voice wasn't loud but it sounded so lethal that it almost gave me shivers.

"Really? How?" I queried curiously. He planted a kiss on my forehead before he answered.

"No need to ask about it, my Ina. The important thing right now is you're okay. I'm sorry for not coming back sooner. Something important kept me occupied that I didn't have a choice but to finish it before coming back here.

"Because of my carelessness, this happened to you. If something bad had happened to you, I would never forgive myself." Guilt was written all over his face but there was something more that I couldn't pinpoint.

"It's not your fault. Even I didn't expect that Father Nicolas would do that to me." My voice cracked upon remembering what happened again. He didn't answer but his jaw was flexing tightly. I could feel the tension in his body and I knew that he was beyond mad.

"You are just too kind, my Ina. Even after what that b*stard did to you, you still won't utter any negative words towards him. But it's a different story with me. I would never forgive for what he did to you and one day, he's gonna get what he deserves. I promise you that."

"What do you mean by that, Xzav?"

He smiled and caressed my cheek with his hand. "You're my woman and you deserve the best. Just leave everything to me. I'll fix this." Before I could ask what he meant by that, he drew his face closer to mine and claimed my waiting lips.

"I'll erase what that b*stard did to you earlier today." I don't understand why but everytime Xzavier utters a promise, my heart instantly holds onto it without a second thought.
