Types of DEPRESSION:#1 Major DEPRESSION

I) MAJOR DEPRESSIVE DISORDER

Major DEPRESSION is a serious mental illness. It is classified as a mood disorder, which means that it is characterised by negative patterns in thoughts and emotions that don't line up with a person's actual circumstances.

The classic DEPRESSION type, major DEPRESSION is a state where a dark mood is all-consuming.
It is a mental health disorder which causes prolonged feelings of despair, worthlessness, irritability, and fatigue, lack of motivation to do anything at all(which is why you might find yourself left wondering why you can't keep yourself motivated to do daily task or... study, though you want to).
Moreover, one loses interest in activities, even ones that are usually pleasurable. Which is why you might often hear someone with the disorder saying that they lost interest in the things they used to love to do and they just can't get themselves to do it anymore, as in those works no longer cause them pleasure. Imagine not getting pleasure from anywhere at all, not even the things you loved. (As in hobbies like reading, writing, painting etc)

Thoughts of death or suicide also occur.Mostly, life seems unworthy of living, for which doing anything at all including eating, sleeping, studying etc seems unworthy as well.

It is also a chronic mental illness. This means it is not curable and that it can come and go, sometimes for a person's entire life. Someone diagnosed with DEPRESSION may feel fine for a long period of time and then have symptoms. The period during which someone experiences the symptoms is called a DEPRESSIVE episode.
As most people with major DEPRESSION live with it as a chronic illness, this episode come and go, although they may be made less severe and less frequent with good treatment.

In some cases, though, a person may experience a singular episode of DEPRESSION, just once in a lifetime.

Often these episodes of DEPRESSION are triggered by a situational event: a death in the family, the loss of a job or relationship, or some kind of trauma, like a physical assault. This single DEPRESSIVE episode may be just as serious as those experienced by someone with recurrent major DEPRESSION with all the same symptoms and persistence.

Now, a lot of you might think DEPRESSION needs "valid reason" or bad enough "trauma" and DEPRESSED has messed up and tragic life, or being a DEPRESSED you might be confused since nothing is going wrong in your life. Well, NO. Let me tell an extremely important thing that you must know, DEPRESSION can absolutely happen out of blue and you don't need a proper trigger to be DEPRESSED, everything in your life can go perfect and you still can suffer from DEPRESSION. I will strongly tell everyone, if someone is DEPRESSED, don't make an issue out of what's the exact reason. Rather, what you have to look for is, cause. (Like what's wrong in their brain).
This is the main reason for many DEPRESSED who is has no "valid reason" to feel DEPRESSED so they think they shouldn't feel like this cause someone has it worse and make them shut themselves, refuse to come out for help, and feel guilty whinny and worthless. ( I will be writing an elaborated chapter on this single topic. It's THAT important).

However, major DEPRESSION can strike at any age, although it is most common in young
adulthood. Both men and women can experience major DEPRESSION, however the disorder is more common in women.

It is usually treated with psychotherapy and medication. For some people with severe DEPRESSION that isn't alleviated with psychotherapy or antidepressant medications, electroconvulsive therapy may be effective

Symptoms of Major DEPRESSION

DEPRESSIVE mood:  A feeling of DEPRESSION, sadness, and hopelessness that is intense and persistent. This may seem more like irritability in children, teens, and men.

Excessive guilt: Feelings of deep guilt and shame, a feeling of being worthless.

Lack of motivation: Little motivation to complete even simple tasks( the high your DEPRESSION is, the less your motivation will be)

Loss of interest: A significant loss of interest or pleasure in doing normal activities, including daily activities like chores but also hobbies, work, or school. Loss of sex drive in some.
Suicidal thoughts: Thoughts or attempts of suicide. Life seems unworthy of living and the dark tunnel seems never ending which makes you wanna give up and end it.

Problem with self-esteem: Low self-esteem and self-confidence.

Low energy levels: Feeling drained without working hard, tired and run-down.

Impaired thinking: Difficulty concentrating, making decisions, and focusing on anything, even just watching television.

•Sleep changes: Either excessive sleep or insomnia and trouble falling asleep, nightmares, waking and can't fall back asleep.

Fatigue: Fatigue and loss of energy that is more than normal and can't be explained simply by lack of sleep or low quality sleep.

Weight changes: Significant loss of weight or weight gain that is not intentional but is triggered by overeating or loss of appetite. Or simply just loss of appetite.

Agitation or retardation: Agitated and restless expression or slowed down affect that is notable to anyone observing

Duration of DEPRESSIVE episode: Symptoms last at least two weeks or longer and occur everyday during the episode. And as I said, it's a chronic illness, the symptoms come and go.
