Chapter 5
Manami's POV
"Hamadashi, come out! Pleaseeee?" Uraraka begged. I blushed, looking at myself. I didn't want to say that I was ashamed of how I looked, but I was really embarrassed by how much was showing.
"NO! IT'S EMBARRASSING!" I yelled, poking my head out of the curtain. In case you're wondering, we decided that Momo would make curtains for all of us so we could do reveals. However, when it was my turn, I wasn't exactly a fan of how I looked.
"Oh come on, it can't be that bad!" Mina encouraged, touching the curtain. Her acid dissolved it, leaving me out in the open.
MINA ASHIDO | QUIRK: ACID
Allows her to shoot out a corrosive liquid from within her body and can control the degree of solubility, as well as its viscosity. She's also known to secrete the acid from her feet in order to slide around. Mina has a limit of how long she can produce acid until her skin gradually loses its natural resistance to corrosion.
"NOOOO!" I yelled, shrinking down into a ball, completely embarrassed by my costume.
"Oh my god.." Toru muttered, the other girls completely shocked. I whimpered, standing up to reveal what I was wearing.
"I know, it's horrible. It shows too much, I should really just gi-" I was cut off by the girls literally herding me and checking my clothes out.
"ITS SO CUTE!" The girls screamed, looking at every detail. I smiled, secretly telling myself that I really had to replace it. With that, we all headed out to Ground Beta where All Might was waiting for us.
"They say that clothes make the man, young men and ladies. Be fully aware, because from now on...you are now heroes!" All Might said, looking at all of our costumes. I could feel the stares from the boys, and it made me turn red.
"Yes, great! You all look so cool! Now, shall we begin, students?" He asked. I immediately got nervous for what was to come.
"Now, it's combat training time!"

"Most of the time, fighting villains takes place outdoors, but if you pay attention statistically, villains appear indoors. Imprisonment, house arrest, backroom deals...in this society filled with heroes, truly intelligent villains cohere with the shadows! Today, you will be split into heroes and villains and fight 2-on-2 indoors." All Might instructed. Then, he pulled out a sheet of paper, giving us the details of what we had to do.
"The situation is the villains have hidden a nuclear weapon somewhere in their hideout. The heroes are trying to get rid of it. The heroes either have to catch the villains or retrieve the weapon in the time allowed. The villains have to catch the heroes or protect their weapon." All Might explained, all of us understanding.
"To determine who your teammate will be, you will all draw lots!" I giggled seeing him pull out a mug that said '#1 Hero' with a bunch of sticks inside.
"Why is this being decided so haphazardly?" Iida asked, gaining my attention.
"Probably because there are times when heroes from different agencies have to work together." I guessed, looking up in the air. Iida nods, understanding.
With that, we drew lots. It had letters A-J, and a blank. Whoever drew the blank would get to sit out for this round. And that person was not me, but instead it was Shoji. I had gotten the letter B, and so I immediately started looking for my partner.
"Todoroki, which letter did you get?" I asked him. He looked at his stick, before showing me the end of his. He had also gotten B. I showed him mine, smiling. Then, All Might spoke up again.
"All right, the first two teams to fight will be...These two teams!" He announced, holding two slips of paper. It would be Team A vs Team D. I looked around, and saw that it would be Izuku and Uraraka vs Bakugo and Iida.
"Interesting..." I mumbled, gaining the attention of Todoroki. He gave me a look, which made me smile. "It's nothing to worry about, just talking to myself." I said, following him into the survey room.
As we watched the fight go on, I got lost in my thoughts again, worried about what my family could be up to.
"Manami, are you sure you're okay? You're shaking." I snapped out of my thoughts, looking at Todoroki. I looked at my hands, seeing them shake.
"I'm nervous for our battle. I don't know who we're up against, and so I don't know how to be prepared for it." I said, looking down. Todoroki sighed, grabbing my hands.
"We can figure it out. From what it seems, you're a great strategist, and we'll go by what you think is right." Todoroki told me. I smiled, happy that one of us was confident in ourselves.
"Alright." I replied, averting my eyes to the screen. The battle was going along well, and it served as a great distraction from what I was thinking about. But as I watched their fight go on, it made me worried.
"That's not right..." I trailed off, gaining the attention of my class. I walked forward, looking at the screen more closely.
"What do you mean?" Mineta asked me. I huffed, glaring at the screen.
"Bakugo and Iida aren't working together. Normally, villains will team together, some being attackers, some defenders. Bakugo is our attacker for instance, while Iida is the defender of the weapon. But no matter the circumstance, villains talk and communicate with each other, so that it's harder for the hero to catch them." I said out of nowhere. Then, I zoomed in on Bakugo's ear, showing that there was no sign of an earpiece.
"Bakugo is simply acting on his own, and got rid of the only way for Iida to update him on the status of the weapon. Iida is doing a good job on protecting the weapon, yeah, but what if Uraraka was going to achieve the weapon, and Iida couldn't do anything about it? He could call on Bakugo if he wasn't acting like such an idiot." I grumbled. All Might hummed, knowing that I have the brain of a villain inside, and that side of me was NOT happy with their teamwork.
"Very good observation, Young Hamadashi." All Might said, patting my head. I stepped back, fixing my hair with a pout on my face. I didn't really like people touching my head, after all.
"You are so precious!" She squealed, making me pout more. I rolled with it though, and continued to watch their battle with curiosity.
It took a while, and there was quite a bit of talking, but Izuku's team won nonetheless. Then, we did an observational feedback moment, telling the two teams what they could've done better. Then, the next two teams were drawn. And what do you know, it's me and Todoroki vs Mashirao and Toru. Todoroki and I were the heroes, while Mashirao and Toru were the villains.
"What are you thinking?" Todoroki asked me as we looked through the floor plan of the building.
"I was thinking that maybe you could freeze the building immediately, keeping the villains frozen in place, and once that is done, I can quickly zip through, find the weapon, and retrieve it. After the round is done though, you should thaw the ice." I suggested. Todoroki nodded, before realizing that I knew something he never told me.
"How'd you know about my quirk?" Todoroki asked me. I giggled, scratching my neck.
"I uh, might've used one of the parts of my quirks to take a look at how your quirk works. It was out of curiosity though." I told him. He nodded, looking at the building.
"Then it's only fair you tell me how your quirk works." Todoroki said to me, which I understood. It wasn't fair to him that he didn't know how my powers worked, and I knew how his did.
And that's what I did for the rest of the time we had open to study the floor plan. Besides, I had already memorized it, it was clear in my brain. I didn't tell him some things, like my weaknesses, my ink blood, or my regeneration. I did mention the fact that some parts were too complicated to explain, and he understood.
As soon as I finished talking, the buzzer rang, signalling that it was time to move. I waited outside for him to freeze the building, even seeing the ice cover the outside. When he walked out, it was my turn to go back in.
"Good work. I'll finish off those sinister villains." I said, winking at him. Todoroki nodded while I allowed my body to melt and turn into a puddle, moving towards the entrance. I flew through the floors and walls, trying to find the weapon. And on the fifth floor, it was there with Mashirao stuck in the ice. I came back from the puddle, and walked over, touching the weapon, smiling.
"Good try, you guys." I said out loud, quickly getting out so Todoroki could heat the place up. Once I was out, Todoroki placed his left hand on the ice, using only enough heat to melt the ice, just like according to plan.
We all headed back to the survey area, and did the same thing, did an observational feedback session, before the next group headed out. I decided to watch and see how everyone adapted to their part. As I was watching, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around, to see Todoroki.
"Just wanted to let you know that your plan worked out pretty well. Good job." He said, smiling for a second before going back to his straight face.
"Thanks, and you should smile more, you look cuter that way." I said, winking before walking away. I didn't even realize what I said until I walked far enough away from him to have the realization hit me like a bunch of bricks.
'Cuter that way?! Why the hell did I say that? What is wrong with me?' I asked myself, slapping my cheeks a bit. I sighed, looking back at the screen to watch the fight continue.
Oh boy, did I have some explaining to do.
