Chapter 7: Not Right Now
We waited for a minute or so, until Gally got inpatient. "Hey What's going on up there? Is she coming down?" He calls, "Don't rush it, if I do recall it took quite awhile for us to pull chuck out of the box when he woke up and this girl has been asleep since we pulled her out." I huff. "The only reason we even got Chuck out is because you babyed him so much that when you got out he followed." Julius scoffs, "It got him out didn't it?" I shot back. "Yeah, but there were those that didn't exactly agree with your methods." he smirked, "Slim it klunkface" Minho calls when he see Julius give him a teasing look. "Hey could you guys give us a minute?" Thomas calls down, "Whatever you need sweetheart!" I call back, "You heard him boys, off." I call waving them off like a fan. "Not so fast me and you need to talk," Minho demands, "Oh I can't wait for this." I huff. I let Minho drag me off, he pulls me all the way to the map room. He let me go as soon as I got in the door, but he doesn't say a word.
Instead I roam the room brushing my fingers over the physical map I helped him build. "Whats going on with you? Why do you think you're getting in the way of command?" He questions softly, "Newt is first in command and I overstepped during the meeting today. After you all left Newt asked me why he was incharge, I told him because he was Alby's second when he was stung. But then he asked if it was always me who makes the final call why don't I take responsibility of it." I mumble with a weak shrug. "I played it off saying that we all knew that if I wasn't backed up by the rest of you no one would listen to the one girl among fifty-one boys. But the question struck a nerve, he had a point. Why didn't I? Why don't I take responsibility?" I huff, "And then I realized, I'm scared." I scoffed. "We're all scared (y/n)," Minho whispers, "No, not like I've been. I've been scared for three years Minho and not once have I done a thing to take control of it. Not the way you, or Alby, or even Newt has! I've been a coward Minho! I've been one since the day I climbed out that shucking box!" I snap.
Anger and self-hate burned hot in my chest, "If I had been brave, maybe all those boys on that wall wouldn't have died. Maybe if I stood up for myself maybe Justin wouldn't have done what he did and he'd still be here!" I call waving my hands in the air like a lunatic. "Hey! Don't you ever say that! Justin was a selfish bastard (y/n). He would have made his choice even you did, because he was stupid enough to belive your that vaunrable." Minho scolds. "Am I Minho? Am I THAT vulnerable?" I question weakly, "No your not, because you survived three years here. Even when you were violated you picked yourself up and kept going, even when you thought you lost me, Thomas, and Alby all in one day, you survived. And if that ain't strong or brave (y/n) then I sure as shuck don't know what is." He scoffs wrapping his arms around me in a hug. "Just because you show bravery differently from everybody else doesn't mean you're not at all and it's not a crime to be scared (y/n). If you're not scared I wouldn't even call you human." He chuckles. I smile slightly, "We're all gonna die," I joke with a half smile. Minho said nothing but nodded his head, "Probably." He snorts eventually.
It's quiet between us, but Minho doesn't make a move to let go anytime soon. Instead he presses his forehead against mine, "you know what I thought about when I got stuck out in the Maze?" he mumbles. I hum for him to continue, "I thought about all the things I wanted to do with you but never did." He whispers. My eyes lock with his, "What's that supposed to mean? You can't be so vague," I mumbled feeling heat creep up my neck. Minho lets out a quiet laugh, "Well I was thinking more along the lines of getting you alone for an hour or so, you could've made something delicious and I would have kicked everyone out of the map room, we'd have it to ourselves and we could talk and eat without worrying about what's going on outside this little circle." he describes. "It sounds nice, I would've made something really special. Might've even made a sweet or two." I mumble. "Mmhm, but I would be lying if I said I didn't think about the things you thought I was a few seconds ago." he teases, my eyes widen and the heat returns only to reach my cheeks this time. "What are you talking about Minho?" I huff glancing over to mindlessly look over a drawn section of the maze, "I think you know (y/n). I mean come on, We've slept in the same bed for how long? You can't say you haven't thought about doing something else in my bed," He whispers with a smirk. I didn't process that he had been slowly easing me into the table until I felt it press against my backside.
"Minho?" I whisper, He hum softly as his hands trace gentle circles into my hip. This isn't like Justin, this is completely and utterly different and I have no idea what to do about it. I don't want to push him away and scream, not like I had tried with Justin. I want to lean into him and wait for him to do something, but the way he looks down at me has me squirming. "What are you doing?" I question softly, "I'm not sure, just...following an instinct." He whispers. "What is it telling you to do Minho?" I question softly, "Something that will change everything, and I don't think we need this. Not right now." He mumbles pulling away. "Minho," I call, he doesn't answer back, only takes a couple of steps back to give us some space. "Minho," I demand, he looks at me, his eyes darker than usual and it isn't because of the setting sunlight that leaks through the cracks in the walls. "If we are going to die tomorrow what would you be willing to risk doing right now?" I question, "See that's the problem, I wouldn't be able to stop with that!" He huffs spinning away from me and running a hand through his hair. "What Minho? Why wouldn't you be able to stop?" I snap frustration bubbling over from the previous tension. I jump as Minho whirls around and aggressively pins me against the table, "If I kissed you. Right here, right now. I wouldn't be able to stop. I would take it a step further with every step I take until I've made it full circle. And we don't need that, not right now." He growls. Heat flushes my body at the thought, I bit my lip unable to form words after a confession like that.
"Then...we can just hold each other. Like we've always done, we're pretty good at that." I reason, Minho didn't say anything, only wrapped his arms around me tightly. "We're okay right?" I whisper worriedly, "We're okay." He mumbles into my shoulder. I grip the fabric of his shirt tighter "Are you gonna make me sleep by myself tonight?" I question meekly, "I'm not going to make you do anything. If you wanna sleep on your own that's fine with me, but if you're gonna crawl into bed with me you have to take a shower first." He chuckles. "As long as you stand guard," I huff into his chest, "I'd like to see you try and stop me." he grins into my shoulder. "Then we should head out, it's getting dark." I nod, Minho pulls away with a small smile. Together we make our way back to the Glade, we make a stop at the homestead to grab shower stuff but I see the girl and Newt leave the medbay. "Hey honey," I smile, "Uhh, hi." She whispers. "Sorry I haven't been around much. Things have been...hectic." I muse, she sent me a small smile and nodded. "Well if you're feeling up for it Minho and I are going to the showers if you want to join." I smile, Her face flushes a dark red as Newt snorts out a laugh. My eyes widen and I slap my hand against my forehead at the phrasing. "Try again," Minho calls smugly, I shot him a glare before looking over the girl. "Sorry, I mean I am going to shower. Minho here, usually keeps watch for me in case some of the boys get cheeky ideas." I sigh, "And you never thought he would?" She mumbles. "Don't worry about him, Greenie (y/n) has him on a short leash just like the rest of the Glade." Newt chimes in, "You say that like it doesn't include you." Minho quips. "I never said that." Newt defended, "But it was implied." Minho argues. I let out a long sigh and shoot the girl a bemused expression, but she seemed so entertained by their arguing. "So...?" I question shortly when I recall I didn't ever get her name, "Teresa," she answers for me. I nodded my head, "So Teresa," I continue, "Would you like a shower?" I question. She took a moment but nodded.
I then told Minho to wait there while I led Teresa to my room where I gave her a spare pair of clothes to wear. With soap and towels in hand the three of us quietly made our way to the showers. At the door Minho propped himself against the wall with his eyes closed, I placed a small kiss to his cheek before guiding Teresa into the shower. The showers is nothing but a small shack with one or two pipes to pump water, it's nothing fancy but it gets us clean. "I know it doesn't look like much but the hot water is okay." I smile pulling off my clothes, Teresa turns away and hesitantly starts to strip. I toss my clothes off into the far corner but place the clean one next to it. I show her how to pump the water before starting my own, eventually both pipes are running with water. "Give it a second to heat up." I mumble running a hand under the water. Teresa nodded and before too long steam started to rise, quickly I jumped under the water and washed away all the dirt and grime. "I would wash first, there's no telling how long the water lasts." I call scrubbing my hair with soap. I hear her hum as I start to wash it out, once I know I'm clean I relax under the water and let the heat sooth my muscles.
"You're lucky," I muse running my hands through my wet hair, "How so?" She questions. "You didn't get sent up in a dress." I smirk, I can hear cringe and it only causes me to laugh. "Yeah, but really you're lucky. I was the very first to be sent, after me it was all boys until you." I sigh, "Were you ever scared?" She questions. I nodded, "Yeah, but I had people who kept me safe, made me feel safe. People like Newt and Alby-" I list but Teresa cuts me off. "Like Minho?" She realized, "Yeah definitely Minho." I smile. "Are you two?" She mumbles, "Not quite." I whisper. "Come on the water is getting cold," I huff turning the pipes, with the water off we both dry off and dress before the cool air gets to us. Minho is just as we left him when we exit, "You can sleep in my room." I tell Teresa when we enter the Homestead. "Where will you sleep?" She questions as I open the door to my room, "I have a place," I smirk shooting her a wink before closing the door. With Teresa tucked in I made my way to Minho's room where he already lay in bed, I didn't say a word as I crawled under his blanket and arm. I hear a tired chuckle leave him as I scoot closer, "Sleep you have a runner to train tomorrow," I whisper kissing his forehead. He hums and holds me tight, for the first time in days, we finally find sleep.
