Twenty: Waking Up
Dusk's P.O.V.
Beep... Beep... Beep...
My eyes slowly fluttered open, and I was greeted with bright white lights. I groaned as I tried to sit up, but I felt pain every time I moved. I looked around the room and instantly breathed in the smell of sanitizer, and I knew I was in the hospital. Why am I here? Out of the corner of my eye, I could see someone was standing in front of a small cupboard, writing down something on a clipboard. He looked to be about the same height I was, so I was a little confused as to who this person was.
"Hello?" I asked. The strange man turned around, and I saw that it wasn't a man at all, it was a young boy, who looked like he could be sixteen or seventeen years old. "Well, hello, sleepyhead. How are you feeling?" he asked, walking towards me, still holding the clipboard in his hands. "I'm okay, just a little confused. What happened? Why am I here, and who are you?"
"I'm Winston, Winston Jones," He answered, extending his hand out for me to shake. "Nice to meet you, Winston. I'm Dusk," I said as I shook his hand gently and met with a jolt of joint pain. "Are you a doctor? You look really young," He chuckled while looking down at the ground, then his dark green eyes met mine. "No, I'm not. I am an intern, though. My father works here, and he got me the job," He smiled. Oh, so he's an intern, a cute one at that. "Oh, that's nice. You're interested in working in the medical field?" I asked.
"Yeah, I've always wanted to be a doctor and save people's lives. My father said that I wasn't ready for it, but come on, I've told him since I was four that I wanted to be a doctor. Eventually, he caved in and said that he would try to get me a job here, but he also said that I had to go to a good school where I can learn more about medical practices," he explained.
"Well, Denouement High has a few courses on Medical Study. If your interested in attending, I'm sure it can help you out," I said. Winston looked up at me with wide eyes, almost like he didn't expect those words to come out of my mouth. "How do you know? Do you go there?" he asked. I nodded and told him that not only was I a student. But also the headmaster's daughter. "Wait a minute, you're telling me that your father is Dewey Denouement?" he asked through wide eyes.
"Yep, that's him," I smiled. Before Winston could say anything else, a knock fell upon the wooden door, and Winston went over and opened it. I saw my parents and my baby sister were standing right outside with looks of shock on their faces. "Dusk! My baby! Thank God your awake!" Mother said, handing Beatrice to my father and running towards the bed to hug me. "Hey, Mom. What happened? Why am I in here?" I asked. She looked over at father, and they let out a small sigh. I could already tell that they had been crying.
"What's going on? Is it something bad?" I asked, panic rising inside me. "Dusk, the reason why your in here is because you collapsed at the dance. Do you remember that?" Father asked. I nodded, and they told me that because I hit my head, the doctors worried that it would affect my memory, but so far, I was okay. "They did some scans and tests, and unfortunately, they found something," Mother said as tears began to fill her eyes. I wrapped my arms around her as she started crying into my shoulder, and I told her that it was okay and to take her time.
Once she calmed down, she grabbed a box of tissues and took a few sheets. "The results from the tests came back," Father said. "And?" I asked, getting anxious to know what was wrong.
"They said that you have Lupus,"
