Twelve: A Study Date?
The following night, it was hard for me to fall asleep. Not only because of my joint pain but because I was hoping that Klaus would be happy with getting the note in his locker. The next morning, I quickly ate my bacon and eggs, and when I got to school, I met up with Veronica, and we waited for Klaus to get to his locker before we had to get to first period.
"I'm so nervous," Veronica whispered. "I get it. I would be nervous if I wrote a note to my crush," I nodded. Veronica looked over at me and smiled, slightly moving her eyebrows up and down, and I knew that she was silently talking about Quigley and me. The scene of him helping me stand up in the crowded hallway replayed inside my head, and I felt my cheeks begin to turn a bright pink. "Are you thinking about him?" she teased.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw that Klaus was approaching his locker, and I told her to look forward. Klaus turned the dial of his locker, and after a few quick movements, the locker opened, and out flew the note. He looked down at the ground and picked up the note, and I could see a look of hope form on Veronica's face.
The two of us watched in anticipation as Klaus unfolded the note and he read the note. I couldn't see the look on his face, but I could tell by his composure that he was very happy. Then, the bell rang and I quickly ran towards my locker, grabbed my history textbook and walked to class with Klaus, and tried to act like everything was normal. The whole time we were walking, he had this grin on his face, and when I asked him if he was okay, he didn't respond.
It was the same thing in Geometry. He kept grinning like the Cheshire cat. Violet had no idea about the note, and Veronica and I weren't going to tell her. We wanted Klaus to find out who wrote the note. But little did he know that the girl who wrote it was a few seats away from him. Violet passed a note and inside, she asked me why he looked so happy, but I lied and told her that I had no idea.
"Klaus, are you okay?" I asked when we got out of class. "Yeah, never been better!" he answered, continuing to smile. "Do you want to talk about why you're so happy?" We came to a stop in the middle of the hallway, and he pulled out Veronica's note and showed it to me. And even though I instructed her on what to write, I acted like it was the first time I was reading it. "Oh wow, I wonder who wrote this to you," I smiled. "Me too. I guess I'll just have to wait until the weekend to find out!" he said before walking down the hall to third period.
As I was about to walk down the hall, I turned around to see Quigley standing right in front of me. "Oh! Quigley. You gave me a heart attack!" I sighed, pressing a hand to my chest. "Sorry, is this a bad time?" he asked. "Well, it is passing period. We'll just have to make it quick," I answered. I looked up at him, and his gaze met mine. "I was just wondering, could you help me study history after school? Mr. Snicket is testing us on Friday," he asked.
"Sure! When would you want to meet up?" I asked. He asked if I could meet up with him in the library after school, I couldn't give him a definitive answer, but I told him I would have to check with my dad. "Well, hopefully, I'll see you in the library later," he smiled before walking off.
Did Quigley ask me out on a study date?
