Three: Carmelita Spats

Lunch was an even bleaker affair then Geometry, I had no idea who this Carmelita Spats was. Veronica's note didn't go into detail about what Carmelita looked like, but I just kept an eye out for her, if people at school were still talking about me being the headmaster's daughter, I was sure that she was going to find me and try to make my life a living hell.

When it was my turn to get some food, suddenly I felt someone bump into me and cut in front of me. "Excuse me, I think you just cut in front of me," I said tapping on the shoulder of a red-haired girl. She turned around and she smirked at me, but then a split second after that, her jaw dropped. "No, no way, you're the headmaster's daughter," she said. I was afraid to say anything, but I knew right away that was Carmelita Spats.

"You don't belong here, you're not Denouement High material," she said turning that shocked look into a smirk once more. My father always told me if someone was being rude to me, the best thing for me to do was to ignore them. So, I tried to ignore her. "Cat got your tongue, cakesniffer?" she asked. She kept spewing insults at me, but I tried my best to not show any emotion, although the insults hurt a little.

"Leave her alone, Carmelita, you're the cakesniffer!" Someone spoke up. I looked behind Carmelita, and I saw a boy with short brown hair and brown eyes. I felt my heart start to beat a hundred miles an hour, he was so handsome, and he was so kind to step in. No, I can't have feelings for him already, we barely just met. He approached me, and he led me away from Carmelita. "I'll give you some of my food, Carmelita usually takes the good portions," he said.

We sat down at a nearby table where three other people were sitting, a girl and two boys. "Thank you so much, this is the first time I've had to deal with someone like this," I smiled. "No problem, we've had to deal with Carmelita for a year now. You'll learn to ignore her," the girl spoke up. "I'm Quigley Quagmire, and these are my siblings, Duncan and Isadora," Quigley said, introducing me to the strangers sitting at our table.

The girl and the boy sitting to her right looked up and smiled. "Hey! Don't forget about me!" the other boy spoke up. "Oh, and this is Sander Kyoto, one of Isadora's friend," Quigley said. Sander looked up at me and smiled, I couldn't help but notice his hair was both brown and green, it looked really cool. "Nice to meet you," he smiled. I sat down next to Quigley, and he passed me some food from his tray. "Are you sure? You really don't have to do that," I said, unsure if Quigley felt pressured into giving me some of his food.

"Of course, no one should go hungry," He said, passing me an apple along a small half of a red velvet cake. I hadn't had much to eat that day, only a small portion of bacon and eggs for breakfast. "So, are you going to tell us your name?" Duncan asked. "Oh, sorry, I'm Dusk Denouement," I said as I wiped my face with a small napkin. There was complete silence at the table. "Wait a minute, your really Headmaster Denouement's daughter?" Isadora asked.

"Yes, I am," I answered. "I just have to ask, do you get certain benefits being the headmaster's daughter?" Sander asked looking up from his small portion of pasta. I didn't want to talk about it fearing that I would be bragging, but the moment I locked eyes with Quigley for a moment, I knew that I could trust him, and the others. "Some, I get to see my father often, I get free lunch, and other small little benefits," I said.

"You're so lucky, I wish I could get free lunch instead of having to pay $5 for some lunch," Duncan sighed. Maybe in the future, I could change that but that's a long way from now. "Aww, cakesniffers talking to the newest cakesniffer, is there anything less adorable?" I heard that familiar nasally voice from behind me, it was Carmelita once again. "Go away, Carmelita, we're not in the mood," Isadora sighed.

"I just wanted to give Dusk a piece of advice," Carmelita said into my ear. I continued to ignore her, but I felt shivers go down my spine when she said this...

"If you try to snitch on me to your daddy, I will come after you, and I will make your time at Denouement High a living hell," she whispered eerily before walking away.
