Eleven: The Matchmaker
It had been a month since I had received that note in my locker telling me to watch my back. But, since then, nothing out of the ordinary happened to me. There were no more threats, no more notes, only the occasional run-ins with Fiona and Carmelita, who only gave me glares. I started to believe that whoever sent me that letter was trying to get a reaction out of me. But to their disappointment, I was not going to give it to them.
Klaus started to get over his heartbreak with Fiona, and he seemed ready to move on and find love again. "Are you sure? There's no time limit on love. You can still wait for the right girl," I asked him at lunch. "Yeah, I think I'm ready to move on. Sure, I'll never forget what Fiona did to me, but I can't dwell in the past," he answered. He's right about that. "But, this time is going to be different. I want to find someone who I am sure wouldn't hurt me. She has to be sweet, funny, and most importantly, care about the people she loves,"
Veronica fits all of those standards. And she does have a crush on him, so the only thing that's left is to get them together. "Well, I hope you find the right girl. Many girls in this school would be lucky to have you as their boyfriend," I smiled, trying to hide the fact I knew someone liked him. He smiled before taking a bite of his food. "Thanks, Dusk. You're a good friend," I smiled in response, and I started to plan out how I could get him and Veronica together. This was my first time trying to be a matchmaker, so I hoped it would go well.
After school, I hung out with Veronica in the auditorium, and we talked a little about Klaus and his standards. "I mean, I get it. He doesn't want to get his heart broken again. Poor guy, I just wanted to wrap him in my arms and give him the biggest hug ever," Veronica sighed at the thought of Klaus being upset. "I know. But, at least he's feeling better now," I sighed. "So, how am I supposed to try to ask him to hang out or something? I'm shy when it comes to talking to him,"
Good question. Then, a lightbulb when off inside my head. Veronica looked over at me with a look of worry on her face and asked me if I was alright. "I just thought of something. Maybe you can write him a letter, but keep it anonymous. Tell him subtly that you have a crush on him. And that you want to meet up somewhere. Then, we'll slip it into his locker and wait for his reaction," I explained.
Veronica's eyes lit up after my explanation, and a grin spread across her face. "That's a good idea! There's this small coffee shop downtown. Maybe we could meet each other there, like it's a blind date!" Veronica chuckled at the thought. She reached into her backpack and pulled out a piece of paper and a black pen, and I gave her my binder to use as a desk. "What should I write?" she asked. "Just tell him that you like him and that you would like to get together after school," I suggested.
Veronica quickly began to write the letter neatly on the ivory paper and a few minutes later folded the letter so it could easily slip into Klaus' locker. We walked out of the auditorium and down a few halls towards his locker. I stood on my tippy toes and slid the note through one of the small openings.
"I really hope this works," Veronica whispered.
