Introductions

The man was terrified of him, it was plain to see.

But he had to make sure that the other didn't know that he was just as frightened.

"Wha... who are you?" The man's voice cracked a bit, betraying even more fear.

He didn't answer.

The man decided to try again. "How'd you get in here? And how do you look exactly like me?"

He felt anger rising in his chest at each annoying question. He didn't know why, but he hated this man. More than anything he had encountered so far.

The man reached into his pocket with a shaking hand, withdrawing a phone. "Look, if you don't talk to me, then I'm gonna have to call the police."

Some sixth sense of urgency told him that this man was the only one who could know of his existence. If anyone else knew of him, everything would be ruined. So he opened his mouth, and spoke for the first time. "Who are you?"

The man blinked, lowered his phone, and replied with a quiet voice, "My name is Jack. Now it's only fair if you give me yours."

"I don't have one."

"Oh." Jack sounded as if he was disappointed. "How did you get in here?"

He tilted his head a bit. "I... fell."

The other sounded confused. "Well, can you explain why you look exactly like me?"

Keeping his silence for a moment, he then shrugged. He didn't know what he looked like, and quite frankly, he didn't care.

Jack sighed. "Great. I've got a stranger in my apartment who looks exactly like me and doesn't know why. What am I supposed to do now?"

"Nothing." He hardly realized that he had spoken until he heard Jack's little gasp. He continued, "You can do nothing to save yourself... Now that I'm here." He felt his vision go black, felt sticky liquid stream from his eyes, felt his mouth open in a scream.

And suddenly...

He was blinking awake in what seemed to be a glass box, illuminated by a bright spotlight. Directly in front of him was a screen, so clear that it seemed like a window. Through it he saw Jack, lying with his head on a desk, jerk into consciousness. He slid himself off the desk and rubbed his eyes. "Well, that was an awesome nightmare," he heard him say. "I'm letting the horror game vibes get to me."

What? What just happened? One part of him was confused, but the other was angry. I am more powerful than this! He cannot cage me! Standing up, he banged his fists on the glass, pure fury at this injustice giving him even more strength. But however hard he tried, he couldn't even make one tiny crack in the transparent surface.

Despair overcame anger, and he sunk to the floor, his back to the screen. I'm not just a nightmare. You can't ignore me. Tears pricked at his eyes, but he blinked them back. Staring across from his position, he realized that he could finally see his reflection. I do look like Jack.

Hatred for both his captor and the image in front of him swamped his senses, and then and there, in the cage made of glass, he made a vow to himself. I will get out of this prison. I will find a way to become more powerful. And once I do, Jack, I'm coming for you. And I will destroy you.

You can count on it.
