36: A Bit Too Far
***Ayana's POV***
I ran.
Not because I wanted to leave Rin alone or anything. And not because I was terrified. I was a bit scared though. I ran because I knew that he'd come after me. I needed to get Rin away from that wishing well so Ryokō wouldn't do anymore harm than he already has done to Rin. What would I do if he didn't come after me, you ask? Well I'd obviously go back. I'd probably throw him as far as possible from there if I had to.
But luckily, it did work. Rin was running behind me with a devious grin on his face.
I ran. And ran... And ran.
I could hear him laughing behind me, "hey Ayana!" He yelled as he laughed behind me as I continued to run, "are we playing tag? If so, I'm gonna get 'cha! Well I would do that anyway. Hahahaha!"
I ignored him and kept running.
Hoshi. Get to Hoshi.
That was all I was thinking in my mind. I needed to get to Hoshi, so he could do the ritual. I had to. No matter what.
"And..." I heard Rin behind me say. I turned my head around. He was right behind me, "gotcha!" He pounced towards me with his burned and holy water covered hand. I however, jumped into the air and landed behind him. I kicked him and he went tumbling forward.
I then ran towards him and grabbed him by the back of his collar and threw him through the forest. My left arm burned from that holy water he splashed me with, but I ignored it. I ran after him and grabbed him before he could get up again; and threw him. Again.
I was impressed. This actually was working quite well. I guess I really am going with that plan of just throwing him everywhere. If I'm going the right way, I should get to Hoshi... Sorry I have to do this to you Rin...
Before I could get to him a third time though, he rapidly stood up and his face was red with anger like his eyes.
"What am I?! Some ring toss game that you humans play?!" He yelled. I didn't reply. So he clenched his teeth and started stomping towards me, "tch. Why you little..."
He started trying to claw me with his holy water covered hand. I kept dodging and running. We fought for a while. But I was more focused on trying to get Ryokō close enough to Hoshi. Then something else also came to my mind. Something that Ryokō said that I just don't understand one bit.
I felt a sharp pain on my side. I yelped in pain, and put my hand over my right side, but that then burned my palm. Ryokō in Rin's body laughed about his victory in finally clawing me with this burning and sizzling holy water.
It really burned. It hurt. It felt like I was being stabbed and burned at the same time.
Then I realized from the corner of my eye; there was a gap between all the trees. I saw Hoshi.
He was at the cave still. I knew his eyes were filled with concern without even looking. I needed to now keep Ryokō here. Just long enough for Hoshi to finish his ritual.
As Rin laughed and laughed, I quickly looked at Hoshi and gave him the smallest and fastest nod I could give. Then I looked back at Rin and sprinted his direction. He stopped laughing a second too late. "Oh?" I tackled him to the ground and pinned his wrists down as hard as I could.
"Hey let me go!" He yelled as he squirmed under me.
"Rin! Can you hear me?!" I yelled back. I could try calling out to Rin. I could get him out of this right now. I kept my grip on his wrists firm as he continued to squirm. His red eyes were filled with anger. "Rin!" I called again. Suddenly, he stopped. His body relaxed. I looked into his eyes again.
They were blue.
A colour I've missed. The deep blue eyes of Rin Okumura. He looked up at me. I was shocked. Did I actually..?
"Ayana?" Rin muttered as he looked at me dazed. My grip on his wrists loosened.
"Rin?" I whispered. I then fully let go of his wrists, "is that... Really you?"
We were both were silent for a while. My eyes started to glisten. A smile of relief grew on my face, "Rin," I said, "Thank goodness you're-"
I stopped midway however. Because he smirked.
Rin blinked, and his eyes were red again. My hope drained like it was never even there.
I felt my body get pushed back. My shoulder burned. My back slammed to ground. He grabbed my wrists and slammed them beside both sides of my head. I screamed as he tightly held them and I could feel my left wrist burning more than anything.
"Hahaha!" Rin laughed, "you're so weak! You even fell for that! Hahaha!"
I glared at him and struggled to get myself free. He kept me like that for a while. And kept pushing me harder into the ground; making it break under me.
"Let go you red-eyed shit face!" I yelled with gritted teeth.
"Ohh, someone's mad~"
I growled in frustration and struggled even more. I felt my wrist burning and burning. It felt like it was melting right there. This guy is using Rin's full power and strength. Of course he'd be a lot stronger right now.
After a moment I remembered something.
"Hey..." I said as I continued trying to struggle free, "there's something I want to ask you."
"Oh?" Ryokō said with raised eyebrows, "you got a lot guts trying to make conversation when you're in a position like this."
I ignored his comment and said, "before... You said you were my 'soon to be saviour'... How does this work with that?"
"Hmm?" Ryokō thought about it. Probably trying to recall when he said that, "ah!" He said as he remembered, then bunched his mouth to one side, "is that all I told you? Well, to tell you the truth, I only meant that if..." He smirked and leaned down so he was inches from my face, "you survived all of this." He cackled.
I gritted my teeth, then said,"then I guess I'm going to have to survive this."
I pushed my arms forward with all my might. His hands were starting to be pushed back by mine. His eyes widened in shock, but it turned into a smirk. He pushed back. It was a war of strength. Our hands were shaking as we tried to push each other back. It was like when you are having an arm wrestle, but it wasn't going anywhere, because your hands were stuck in the middle.
As this little war continued, I had an idea. And so I went with it. I kneed him in the crotch.
His eyes basically popped out of his head as he fell to the ground.
"You little...." He grunted with an angered voice as he tried to compose himself. I glared at him. He pounced my direction and we fought for a while again. Ryokō's face was filled with anger, until he suddenly stopped with wide eyes. I took this opportunity to kick him towards a tree closer to Hoshi.
When I got there however, Rin wasn't getting up this time. He kept one hand on the ground and the other clutching his chest as he was coughing. I cautiously walked over to him. I stood in front of him and stayed there for a moment. He continued cough and cough like he was in pain. I knelt to the ground, but still kept my distance from him. Then, I slightly dipped my head to the side to see his face. His eyes were wide as he seemed to be gasping for breath, and his eyes... They were constantly changing back and forth from red to blue.
What was happening? Was Ryokō trying to trick me again? But it didn't seem like he was... I then heard him growling. I brought my attention back to him and he was glaring at me. Sweat streamed down the side of his head as he was breathing heavily. His eyes were still changing from red to blue, then back to red. Then blue. Could Rin be fighting him? I wasn't sure. Then suddenly his eyes stopped at red, and he pounced at me. I started flailing around. I was surprised. He curled his hands around my neck as he pushed me back against a tree behind me. I clawed at his arms trying to pry them off, but he wouldn't budge. His hand covered in holy water made it worse. It burned through the skin around my neck as I gasped for breath. The corners of my vision was getting darker. This wasn't good. I was going to lose if things kept going like this. Ryokō's claws dug into my skin, and I could feel the warm red liquid dripping down my neck.
His eyes filled rage, then it looked filled with shock later. He suddenly let go and stumbled back. I collapsed to the ground coughing and gasping for breath. Ryokō screamed as he held his hands to the side of the head. The holy water burning the right side of his face in the process. His hands then dropped to his sides and his head tipped back to the sky. Black smoke came out of Rin's mouth and eyes. I looked up at the black smoke in the sky, and looked towards where Hoshi was. He glanced back towards us.
He did it. He finished the ritual.
I looked back at the black cloud. Red orbs looked down at me. I could hear footsteps coming our direction. Yukio and Kina's voices calling me, "You win this one Ayana" Ryokō said,"But we will meet again... If you live. In a good or bad time. It depends on how time reveals itself."
At that, the small grey and black stone dropped to the ground and released a black light. It flashed over Ryokō and the black smoke faded into the sky leaving not even the rock behind.
I looked down and saw Rin unconscious in front of me. Yukio, Shura and Kina came rushing towards us. I watched them with a dazed look as they dropped to our sides. Yukio seemed to be trying to shake Rin awake, he was yelling. Kina was in front of me. Saying things I couldn't hear. She was crying. Shura was looking between Rin and I and yelling too. I saw a glimpse of Hoshi as well. I couldn't feel anything. Everything seemed to be happening in a blur.
Was this it? Did I go a bit too far?... I guess I did.
My eyelids drooped to a close as my body fell to the floor.
