Chapter 43
"What in the hell?" He growls, like a beast instead of a man in shock. He didn't give her a moment to reply before adding, "It can't be true. You can't be a demon."
"I'm not a demon." She replied with her hand placed over the burned scar on her chest and backing away from him.
"Then how do you explain that?!"
"I can explain it very easily. Calm down." She replied, sipping her wine as if the whole thing had been a normal conversation.
"I'm listening, explain." He told her with fire in his hurt eyes.
"I will, but trust me you're not going to like it."
She took a long sip of the wine and a deep breath.
"I'm not a demon but I'm also not a mortal woman either."
"Then what are you?"
"I'm a vessel."
"What do you mean? That makes no sense at all." He spoke through gritted teeth trying to hold back the fury with in him.
"Long ago I was cursed to be a transport for demons. I'm currently almost two thousand years old."
"Impossible." He breathed the word.
"No it isn't but you mortals think you know everything."
"I never said that, but this can't be happening, I loved you."
"I know that, dear." She replied, in a calm tone as if nothing were horribly wrong.
"So being in love with me was just bullshit?" He asked her in a fierce tone, his face red and heart racing.
"Not all of it. The training was bullshit."
"Are you kidding me?" He yelled, blood boiling.
"No I'm not. I was sent to find all of the demon warriors and distract them."
"So I'm supposed to kill the only woman I've ever loved?"
"You can attempt it, if you wish." She replied, still sipping at the glass.
"This is just too cruel. I loved you with my heart and soul."
"I told you not to trust anyone. I love you too but I have a job to do." She pointed out.
"What if I don't kill you?"
"The demons will kill you, but I'm a vessel I can't die."
"What in the hell am I supposed to do now?"
"Even if I'm not human we can still be together."
"Are you serious?"
"Yes."
"What makes you think I'd want to?" He told her firmly.
"I can read your soul, remember?" She reminded him.
Neil dropped to the floor out of despair and emotional pain. No man should have to deal with this kind of pain.
"Go on then, kill me."
"I'm not going to kill you."
"Why not, you have the perfect chance." He told her.
"Because I love you."
"You work for the demons I fight to protect humans against. You don't love squat." He told her, then looked at her then the cross. Ten seconds of silence passed slowly between them. He glared at her once more before speaking again.
"Just get out. Go before I do something stupid." He screamed at her. He looked down at the floor and didn't look up again until she had left his living space, possibly for good.
