Chapter 21
After finding a booth out of the way in the coffee house, he went up to the counter and placed the order. Two large cups of dark roast, their usual blend. It was a slow morning, so it only took a few minutes for him to return placing the cup in front of Jenna he smiled at her. He had been more than relieved that she was safe. Once he was seated in the booth across from her, he took a long slow sip.
"How's your head feel?" He asked.
"It's still throbbing, but i think I'll be fine." She replied.
"Good, I'd feel horrible if you were seriously injured because of me." He admitted.
"You shouldn't feel bad. You can't control the demons, trust me."
"Why did it attack you instead of me this time?"
"They tend to use the element of surprise. They probably thought you would be expecting the next attack on you not someone else." She took another long sip, collecting her thoughts and continued on.
"They changed who they attacked, they feel no emotion and no humanity. They don't show mercy. It's not in their nature."
He nodded to her and gulped down some of the hot liquid.
"Go on, please."
"They use people, objects and even lower life forms to get what they want."
"You sure do know a lot about them." He commented.
"I'm not going to lie to you, I do know a lot about them. That is how I survived the first attack when I was a teenager."
He nodded giving her an empathetic glance.
"What do we do now?" He asked her.
"Just stay focused and don't let your guard down, that's exactly what they want, to catch you unprepared." She explained to him.
"Thank you for all of your help with this, I mean it." She replied.
"Would you like another cup to take with us back to your store?" He offered.
"Yes, I'd like that very much." She answered him.
He nodded and got up from the booth, ordered two cups to go and walked her back to the bookstore.
