chapter 19
Four days later...
After several days of grueling work at the office, he finally had a day off. It had been mind bending, testing out new software for the company. Neil woke refreshed, no nightmares not even a hint of a dream the night before. He was in a great mood ready to take on the day. He rolled out of bed and made coffee, checked his e mail. Nothing pressing so he knew he could relax a while in his green flannel pajamas, he sat down on the couch with coffee and enjoyed it, sipping the steaming fresh brew. He loved it.
Once he had a few cups he knew the best course of action on a great day. He got dressed and headed out the door to his car. He then climbed in and started it. He drove out of the lot and headed to his favorite place to be. There was a little more traffic than usual but on a bright sunny day he didn't mind it at all. He knew he should go see her. She probably was wondering where he had been for the better part of the week.
He found a close spot to park just six feet from the door, and parked the car. He looked near the door and the place didn't look crowded which made him smile. Good he thought, maybe she'd be able to slip away for coffee or at least spend a few minutes with him. He got out of his little vehicle and headed into Merlin's Trunk.
When he strolled inside, he had a strange feeling but ignored it. He looked around for his favorite store owner. There she was in the middle of restocking shelves in the self help section. He walked toward her when he saw a strange looking black fogging mist appeared over her. He had never seen anything like it in his life outside of a nightmare or horror movie. He proceeded with caution, just in case something was wrong.
When Jenna turned around he complexion was pale white and her eyes were sunken in and a dull black. It didn't even look like her more like a carbon copy of the woman he depended on and cared for.
"What happened to you? Is everything okay?" Neil asked, his eyes widened, horrified by the change in her.
"Where have you been?' She demanded with a forceful glare and a soul piercing look. It wasn't anger but pure rage. Even her voice wasn't the same, it was a raspy creepy sound coming from within her. He backed up slowly, heart racing from inside of him.
"I've been working a lot. It's my day off and I wanted to see you."
"So I'm conveinent for you is that it?" the voice from within her snarled at him.
"Jenna, what's the matter?" He asked as he backed away slowly, half afraid for her to answer.
"The mortal woman is gone. I now control her every move." It explained through Jenna's clenched teeth.
"I'll play along and who are you?" He asked not sure as to his next move.
"Take a guess warrior, though you don't look like much of one." It replied.
"If you know that I'm the warrior are you an underworld spy preying on an innocent woman?"
"You're really that stupid, aren't you? She isn't as innocent as you think mortal." growled the thing toying with him.
"What's you're name?" He asked with empathy and kindness radiating from the core of his soul.
"Why do you want to know?" It asked cocking an eye brow.
"I'd like to know who I'm talking to." He asked, keeping his tone neutral, not wanting to anger who or what this was inside of her.
The thought struck him like a lightning bolt in a storm. The thing was right, he had been stupid. He smiled at it. He knew exactly what had taken control of her body. It was the demon of wrath. It had appeared angry the whole time and he just now figured it out.
"Enough of this!" Shouted the demon as it lunged for Neil, Who didn't know how but he reacted quickly without anger or frustration.
The demon warrior simply leaped to the right as fast as his body would go. He landed into one of the arm chairs in the middle of the bookstore. The handful of customers ran out of the place in a panic. Neil flipped the chair upright and rose slowly to his feet unharmed. Instinctively he turned to look for the demon of anger possessing Jenna's delicate body. He turned to see it slumped over by one of the walls of the store. He didn't care if he got hurt or not as he ran to her.
