Chapter 17
He just looked at her; cocking his head to one side, like a confused pup.
"What do you mean by something?" He asked her.
"Did you read about demons influencing you through sleep?" She asked.
"I think that was where I stopped reading, why?"
"I don't think you were attacked, but i think one of the demons has been screwing with you during a dream state. It's a dirty trick they can pull, to knock you off of your destined path," She told him.
"Are you serious?" He asked with less arrogance in his tone.
"Yes I'm serious."
"They went after me in my sleep?" He asked in disbelief.
"Yes, they did. If they're pulling those tricks, they must be worried." She replied.
"Can you tell what demon it is?" He asked a little apprehensive of her answer.
"I'd guess a demon with influence over pride. You walked in here pretty sure of yourself." She told him.
As soon as she said it, a wave of nausea hit him and he seemed to snap out of it almost instantly.
"I'm sorry." He replied giving her a look of shame.
"Don't be, you couldn't help it." She told him.
"Thank you. I've never met such an understanding woman like you before." He told her, then kissed her on the cheek.
"What a nice compliment. It's sweet of you."
"Now what should I do?" He asked her.
"Get back to the books. This time I'll go get us some coffee." She advised him.
"That sounds good to me." He replied to her.
She left the office and went to their favorite coffee house, Just around the Corner. She liked the name and it was a good joke considering that was how far it was from her store. She waited in line behind five other people. She hadn't seen it quite this busy before. That was a good thing, glad to see other small business owners doing as well as she had. She noticed the line moving quickly. She was in a hurry. She wanted to get back to Neil. She was half afraid of the next demonic encounter. She just hoped to have him prepared for it.
Once the drink order had been placed and had both cups, she walked back to her own store as fast as she could go without spilling the hot contents of the extra large cups. It had taken her about twenty minutes to get there and back again. By the time she had returned to her office, he was so engrossed in her demonology book that he didn't hear her come in. She tapped her foot on the wood floor to announce her return without scaring the crap out of him in the process.
He looked up suddenly and nodded to her. He placed the book upside down and waited as she handed the hot cup of java to him.
"Oh thank you. You are too kind to me." He told her.
"You are welcome. Have you learned anything?" She asked him flat out.
"A little. I had no idea there were so many diffrent creatures of darkness as well as ways they can attack. It's fascinating." He exclaimed to her, then took a slow sip of the cup. She sat down with him and sipped at her own drink as well.
"Yes, there's a lot to learn in a short amount of time." She informed him with a serious glare.
"I wouldn't know as much, but I don't doubt it." He agreed.
After a few more pages, he thought for a moment.
"Can I ask you something?" He inquired.
"Sure you may ask anything you wish, I'm here to help guide you though it."
"What do I do if you aren't able to be reached?" He asked her with a nervous tone in his voice.
"I hadn't really thought about it, but if you'd like I can show you a chant to call on one of the spirit watchers." She replied.
"What is it?" He asked.
"It's a simple chant to get a little other worldly help."
" What if I screw it up?"
"I wouldn't give you one that would hurt you." She informed him.
"What do I need to do?" He asked with a cautious glance.
"Just ask your spirit watcher for help."
"How do I do that?" He asked more confused now than before.
"Any way you like, whatever way you are most comfortable. It can be a prayer a chant or even a spell." She replied to him.
"How do I know it will work?" He asked her.
"Just trust in yourself."
"Thank you, this is all still overwhelming and I'm new to all of it."
"I know you are but that's why I'm here. I wouldn't help you if I didn't believe in you." She told him.
