chapter 12
uncertainty
The next day as he pushed through his now seemingly boring desk job, he still wondered how he was going to battle these sin inducing demons. Anyone would be better suited for this than him. What if it was all a fluke? A misunderstanding of the cosmos? Unsure of himself he didn't think he could battle a church mouse let alone wicked beings from the sewers of the underworld. He knew Jenna had an undeniable faith in him but he didn't understand why. He was Just an average guy with an average life until a few months ago. The only reason he thought he had even half a shot at this chosen one stuff was her. When she was around he felt like he could do anything. With Jenna by his side, he could battle the devil himself.
Completley distracted by thoughts of her, Neil looked up to see the time on the white and red clock. It was only three minutes until ten a.m. He shook his head and tapped his fingers on the desk. He was always the productive employee, but with everything that had changed in his life, it seemed like just a way to pay bills and keep his apartment, nothing more. He would have been perfectly happy living a dull life working, reading and going out for coffee but this whole ordeal had changed him. He wanted more from his average life. He also hoped that when he fought whatever demons he had to that he would still have his life in tact, to have the ability to strive for more from his boring life. The whole thing confused and worried him.
He knew this was more than he wanted to deal with on any level, but for Jenna he would literally go to hell and back again. He just wasn't sure how he would do it or even when. He took a deep breath and focused his thoughts. He had work to do, he didn't need his panic stricken thoughts to get him fired. Once he had gotten back to his job, deep in concentration he almost didn't notice the time. That is until he saw all of his co workers getting up and leaving for the day.
Neil let out a soft sigh of relief. Glad to be out of there, he grabbed his keys and cell then headed to the coffee shop first. Then as if he were on a mission he made a bee line for merlin's trunk. He had an aching need to see the one who would train him for these demon battles. With any luck she would help him save themselves as well as the human race.
