chapter 11
training begins
After they left the coffee shop they went back to his place to get started on a few defenses. She just hoped she would be able to help him prepare for a ll of it. She hadn't failed a hunter yet but she didn't want this to be a first time.
"What are we going to do first?" He asked as they plopped down on his beat up 1980's style red and orange plaid couch.
"I'm going to teach you some of the more well know demonic attacks." She replied.
"Okay, I'm listening." He replied.
"Most demons don't hurt you physically. They won't send the worst ones first. They save the stronger ones for last. They send low level demons first to weaken you." She replied.
"Mentally weaken me?"
"No to weaken your spirit. To break you of faith, hope and to bend your will to go on living."
He nodded and listened to her intently.
"They will cause great frustration, to get you to believe there's no point in living. They are driven only to cause suffering, pain and destruction."
He nodded to her.
"Do you remember those two punks you fought a couple months ago on the street?" She asked him raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, why?"
"Those were low level demons. They were sent only to see if you'd fight back." She informed him.
"I fought a couple demons and didn't even know it?" He replied astonished with himself.
"Yes, you did. Now they were not the tough types, like bullies we've all fought as children." She explained to him.
"It means that the demons are worried they might lose." She continued.
"Against me? I'm not a fighter." He replied, looking down at the floor then back to her.
"You don't like to fight, It doesn't mean you can't do it." She encouraged him.
"I guess you're right."
"I'm right on this. One little piece of advice, never show fear. It makes a demon stronger."
"What else makes them stronger?" He asked, leaning closer to her.
"Rage and hatred, it fuels them." She told him.
"I'll try to remember that." He told her.
"Other than me, trust no one. Not your co workers, your landlord. They can take over a human, so long as they are weak willed."
"Thank you for your help."
"Think nothing of it, I want to help you, and I think you need it." She replied.
"I think I need it too." He replied followed by a light chuckle.
"If anything weird goes on can I text you?" He asked flatly.
"Day or night." She replied giving him a wink.
Jenna leaned forward and gave him a simple kiss on the left cheek.
"It's getting late, I've got to go. Call me tomorrow?" She told him.
"Anything you say." He replied before escorting her back to the bookstore to get her car and head home.
