chapter 8
Long after the demon calmed his frazzled nerves, suddenly the vampire appeared before him. Syluss had a look of hope across his rough face. He couldn't believe the vampire was actually there standing before him, with a look of impatience. The vampire waited for the demon to speak. After sometime the demon still had not said anything. The vampire sighed then stared at the demon.
"Are you ready to do this?" The vampire asked as more of a command than a question. Syluss shook his head yes, and left the comforts of his dark cave with Romerio. The two of them headed out of the cave, past the mountains and on to the small city below. The vampire stood at the top of the hill and looked at the demon.
"Choose the human wisely my friend."
Then the vampire continued on to the city with the demon trialing behind him. Syluss didn't understand what he had meant by this, he just shook his head in confusion. The two walked on in silence until they reached the dark alleys of the city.
"You are certain you wish to proceed?" the vampire asked making sure. The demon nodded yes.
The vampire scanned the cities near empty streets for a possible human to take. He thought it shall be a male, young, but not stupid young. He thought to himself for the longest time until they saw a young male, attractive. The vampire could smell him fresh out of law school. He was a perfect human to take on. The vampire suggested to the demon.
"Over there, Syluss. That guy is the one you'd want. "
"Yes, I think that you are right." Syluss found himself willingly agreeing with the vampire.
Romerio nodded to him, and then crouched down, ready to strike his prey. Syluss knew this was it, now or never. He would in a few minutes be able to start his quest of finding Jayelle. He was eager to get this done to be on his way to finding his only mate he would ever need. He was a rather impatient creature.
Syluss lunged just before the vampire fed on the human. Things happened too fast for Romerio to warn him as to the irreversible damage his impatience had caused. He did as the demon requested. He turned the human for him. When it was over the vampire sat next to him, waiting. Romerio just sat there with his face in his hands. He could not believe what had happened hours ago. He felt horrible; he had not meant to do it. It happened anyway, he had cursed this poor demon. He was not one to have a soft spot for demons, but he knew what was going to happen. It wasn't a good thing. Romerio waited patiently for another hour before Syluss began to stir. He fed him just enough of his own blood to keep him strong. He held his head low.
"Is that better for you?"
"Yes thank you. You don't have to take care of me."
"It is part of a vampire code we exist by. There is something I have to tell you, and you are not going to like it."
"Well what is it vampire?"
Romerio looked at him for a long moment before he said anything. He looked as if he would break down in tears any second now.
"What is it man? You look like road kill right now."
"I feel like it."
"Why what happened?" Syluss had never seen an underworld creature look so depressed before. This confused him more than anything. He had never seen a vampire so sad. It just didn't seem right to him for some reason. He didn't really understand it. He started to wonder if he really wanted to.
"I tried to stop you from doing it, but everything happened so fast I couldn't warn you." The vampire spoke through him instead of to him.
"What are you talking about, it worked. Everything is fine and good."
"No you fool it is not fine. It is so far beyond fine." Romerio growled to him.
"What in the hell are you talking about?"
"Okay do you remember possessing the human you are inside of now?" He asked, slow and very serious, as if they were discussing the quantum physics of a souls return.
"I think so, why do you ask?" Syluss answered with apprehension in his voice.
"I tried to stop you but it happened so fast. You possessed the human before I turned it."
"What does that matter?"
"It matters a great deal. It means that you are trapped in that body, and now you are immortal. You will never again return to the underworld, genius."
"What?" Syluss spoke in anger, rage and intense fear.
"You heard me, you will never return to your underworld. You are immortal, trapped here for eternity."
"What about my Jayelle?"
"The only hope you have is to find her, if you can. Spend what time you can with her. Even if you cannot have her undying love, you could have a few fond memories of her before her mortal death."
"That or I could simply turn her into a vampire to spend this wretched eternity with me."
"What if she doesn't want that?" Romerio asked a little shocked by Syluss and his plan.
"Hello, demon over here."
"Good point, but still what if she has children, or is happily married?"
"She won't be."
