Gyomei x reader (Fluff)
A/N: So my close friend from school has decided to help with this One-shot book. She has been a great help as well as Great Friend of mine for quite some time. Hopefully you'll enjoy this, just as much as I did reading this. ugh shes just a wonderful being.
It was a beautiful day, you silently thought to yourself, hanging and pining rows of sheets and uniforms along drying wires for recovering patients back in the butterfly estate.
You've made plenty of friends within the manor; met plenty of patients both strange and interesting in their own manners. Almost every day felt new and refreshing—and almost every night ended with a peaceful cup of tea that you could enjoy to your heart's content under gentle moonlight. You might've not begun your life expecting to become a manor nurse, but you were more than content to live it out as such in a comfortable fashion.
You let out a small hum when a gentle wind breezes by, picking up several of the pinned cloths like flags; sending them flying if not for the clips that kept them in place. Your hand guides itself to one of the flowing bedsheets automatically, testing the smooth and soft fabric under your fingers. Your eyes were caught in a silent daze, staring at the cotton you rubbed between your thumb out of habit with small thoughts drifting through your mind.
Working under Kocho-sama had been a blessing granted by the insect pillar herself after your home had been ravaged by a snarling demon. Your life would've been stolen too if not for her interference before that could occur, but you've felt indebted since then—and thus had spent your time as one of the manor's servants living a surprisingly peaceful life as such. Despite it now including demons and demon-beheading.
You quickly shake your mind out of your thoughts, mentally scolding yourself for once again getting distracted. Aoi grew frustrated with your dreamy thinking, especially when she had to deal with stressful patients and unruly tasks at the same time. But she had only scolded you twice surprisingly; you would prefer to remain on good terms with the other servant if you could.
Back on your toes, you grab one of the final bed comforters within your straw basket and a stray pair of clips along the hanger line. The sun was held just a little below the middle of the sky—noon would be approaching soon, and your next set of chores would be at the ready. The last of the patients would be up by now too, and the rest preparing for lunch—if you were quick enough you might be able to catch some time for yourself and a small break before the hour was over.
With a final inspection of the filled hanging lines, you nod your head content with no signs of loose or draping corners. You quickly gather the remaining pins before shuffling your empty basket upon your side, making a small pursuit back towards one of the servant quarters to store away said supplies. The faster the better, you thought.
Your feet padded the halls with a small thump, echoing through each corridor now that you didn't have to worry about waking resting-inhabitants. You could recall a single time when one of the butterfly servants, Kiyo, had to shush a running patient for stirring one of the recovery rooms before the sun had even risen. The floors had a habit of thumping loudly even under softer feet and shaking entire rooms when not careful. To play it safe, you refused to run in the estate at all times—but that didn't stop you from increasing your pace in hopes of catching your break before it ended.
Though as you turned a corner, a little harsher than what you're used to, you end up running smack dab into what you could only describe as the equivalent of a brick wall. You end up falling backwards onto the ground, your basket landing next to you knocked over where the stored pins inside had spread across the floor. It takes you a moment to regather your composure enough to stare upwards at what you ran into, or rather who.
To your surprise, above you looms the familiar form of the stone pillar, currently apologizing with a saddened expression. Quickly, you bounce back on your toes and begin bowing and offering your own apologies for your own mistakes.
"I'm the one who should be apologizing, Himejima-sama! Please excuse my clumsiness, don't be sorry" you try to soothe, watching the pillar's pupil-less eyes begin to shockingly tear up.
"But I must, I have the capability to know my surroundings and yet I still let a kind soul such as yourself be troubled with my inconvenience. I'm sorry" the stone pillar offers you a hand, one you're sure could engulf your own easily. You immediately accept the palm before shaking your head amused, unsure whether the rumored blind-pillar could see the action or not.
"It's no inconvenience at all," you smile, gathering your basket and the dropped pins. "I was in a hurry to deliver back these supplies. If I was the one who was more careful, I'm sure our encounter would've been less...messy" you laugh, spurring a small smile out of the stone pillar himself.
In person, the man stood tall above you. You'd heard the many stories and rumors that surrounded the pillars—working at one of their estates made it a common topic. At one point, the topic had shuffled to Himejima-sama's height—which you believed to be exaggerated at the time when a few of the servants described the being to be closer to a giant than human. However, there wasn't no standing-space within the man's presence that you couldn't help but be shadowed in.
He was a well massive man to be standing in front of. Yet you couldn't help but feel unintimidated by the gentle nature that seemed to surround him otherwise. Like a Buddha statue, you reminiscence.
Suddenly, Himejima's expression seems to falter, as if remembering something he almost quite forgot.
"Ah, if you don't mind me asking, do you happen to know where Kocho-san is and when she will return?" the pillar asks, "I was supposed to drop something off with her, but it appears she isn't here right now" you nod, before quickly remembering the man is blind. (It was hard to tell with how accurate he could stare at one's location).
"Yes, she's currently away on a last-second mission. She will most likely return by tomorrow, but if you want I can guide you to where her office is so you can drop off whatever you need to?"
Himejima takes a moment to think, you can tell by the way his face drifts off to the side a little before the man seems to hum to himself. It was hard to tell whether he was simply weighing the cons or thinking something deeper you couldn't put your finger to. In the end, he nodded, accepting your offer.
"That would be nice" he smiled.
"Right this way" you grab your basket, leading the pillar down the hall he'd already been following. A comfortable silence seemed to bestow you two, the small rustling of the trees in the background and the thumping of your steps being a simple noise to fill it.
Actually, now that you thought about it, Himejima's own steps could barely be heard on the boards of the manor, despite the man's size. That might've been why you weren't expecting him around the corner either—a pillar's ability should never be underestimated you decided.
"What a beautiful day it is" the man behind you finally piques, a genuine tone to his voice. You hummed in agreement, catching Himejima's expression looking outwards towards the natures sprawled around the butterfly manor. You couldn't help but find the giant's relaxed expression to be rather cute.
"Indeed, I was setting out the laundry earlier and I couldn't help but share the same thoughts" you sighed, unable to help the happy skip added to your steps. Break be damn, something about the stone pillar's presence left you feeling warm inside, endearing and gentle. Was it the fact you felt extra safe in his presence? Or maybe it might've been the relaxed air that surrounded Himejima that seemed to never waver?
The rumors you'd heard about him didn't match the real thing.
Finally, you reach the door that leads to Shinobu's small room—typically where you or the other servants will drop off reports and patient data when the butterfly pillar is busy or away. You slide the wall and step aside for the stone pillar to enter, having to duck a good foot under the door to your amusement.
"Ah, in all my rudeness, I still don't have your name now do I?" Himejima asks by the time he had dropped off what appeared to be a sealed letter. You giggle before waving off the delayed introduction.
"It is perfectly fine. My name is L/n, Y/n, but everyone around the manor simply calls me Y/n. It wouldn't feel right to be addressed otherwise anyways" You relay to the man, chuckling at an inside joke shared between only the denizens of the estate.
"If that's the case, it would only be polite of me to request the same honor" Himejima replies with the hint of a smile, "You may call me Gyomei, Y/n-san."
Instantly, you felt your cheeks begin to flare, and for once, you might've been glad the pillar couldn't properly see your small blush.
"U-um, it would be a huge honor, Himeji...Gyomei-san" you bow, trying to slow the fast rhythm that'd entered your heart all of a sudden. It was one thing to allow people to call you by your first name, but it was an entirely different honor to be granted the same privilege! Especially coming from the kind pillar that'd you had ran into only a few moments prior.
You peek upwards hesitantly, though rather shy as well. Himej—Gyomei's blindness must've been a lie, for you could clearly see the man staring down with soft and amused eyes, but with a smile that could only say he knew how flustered you'd become.
You couldn't help but find the expression...adorable.
It reminded you of prancing through fields of daisies and daffodils. Perched with the kind of smile that echoed running up hills with only a gentle flutter in your chest; running free without a care in the world. God you could drown with how sweet Gyomei's expression was.
Before you quite realized what was happening next, the tall giant went into a crouch—still standing a good foot above you, but rather allowing you to crane your neck less upwards and almost eye to eye. It didn't help fan out the flames currently pumping your blood; meeting the eyes of the pillar in an almost equal fashion was not something granted to anyone, much less with Gyomei's stature. Yet you couldn't help but stare curiously still, watching that same expression grace the 'resolute' pillar of stone.
"I appreciate your assistance today, Y/n-san," your face immediately flared up again, "With the kind voice you share, I felt the already beautiful day become a whole light brighter thanks to you" the stone pillar voices. "Thank you very much"
Before you're interpreting what is happening next, Gyomei leaves a quick yet gentle peck on the base of your forehead—sweet and full of care. All the steam that'd risen to your head suddenly exploded, your cheeks practically tomato red with both how unexpected, yet cherishing the gesture was. Gyomei chuckles at your hopeless state.
"Goodbye, Y/n-san. I pray for your well-being and happiness"
You nod, covering your eyes with your hands with how flustered you'd become. How were you supposed to react right now? Never before had your heart pounded this hard against your chest—to the point you couldn't function in the very least; while everything else in you was like cloud nine and spinning around without an ounce of control! Yet, the way it all felt in the end...
You couldn't deny the happiness that'd bloomed inside your chest.
Opening your mouth felt like a task, and with a quick peek, you could only watch the pillar leave the manor silently and surprisingly stoically. You smiled to yourself, already looking forward to the pillar's next visit with a new excitement you never thought was possible.
"Y/n-san! What are you doing standing over there!?" a furious Aoi suddenly shouts, causing you snap out of your dreamy thoughts with barely a jump. "Lunch is over with, we need all the hands we can get!"
"Yes, yes! I'm on it!"
