chapter 9

Grey sat on his mattress, staring at nothing in particular. He wrapped his arms around himself as he rested his head on the headboard. He closed his eyes for a second, and a certain face popped into his mind. He could not stop the smile that crept on his lips.

Grey allowed himself to be lost in the moment, simply thinking about the Angel.

“I need it,” he whispered to himself.

A few minutes later, he opened his eyes and stood up from his bed. He made his way to the window. He watched the other demons interact with each other and giggle about random things.

He had not been outside in a while. He was scared of the other demons noticing that something was phenomenal about him, that he shared his soul with another person. An Angel.

He sighed and shook his head as he averted his eyes from the window. He was feeling bored sitting inside the residence and doing nothing. He exited his bedroom and made his way to the living room.

The moment he entered the living room, he saw his mother seated there. She was watching a show on TV.

“Good afternoon, son,” Anna said with a smile on her face as Grey took a seat.

“Good afternoon,” Grey grumbled his response as he sat down. He hoped his Mom would not say anything to him.

Anna watched her son closely. She noticed he had been in his room all day. She also noted his anger was no longer vibrant.  She desired to say something to him, however, she decided against it.

Anna later averted her eyes from her son and continued to watch the show on the TV.

Grey was complacent when he could no longer feel his mother's eyes on him. He was glad that his Mom did not say anything about the soulmate issue again.

Both mother and son sat in silence as they watched the show on the screen.

Grey all at once sat up straight. He heard a voice at the back of his mind.

“I'm coming.”

He frowned a little because he knew that voice.

The Angel. But how is it possible that I heard her? I do not understand this,’ he said to himself

He quickly stood up and made his way to the door.

“Hey, Grey, where are you going?” Anna inquired quickly before her son exited the door. She saw the way he had stood up quickly.

“I will be back,” Grey said hurriedly as he left the house.

He took a deep breath before he vanished.

Ariel landed on the field. She glanced around but did not see the demon anywhere. Her mood deflated quickly. She had a fantastic expectation that he would be there, waiting for her.

“I don't even know if he will show up. I should probably go home. It's stupid of me to assume the demon will come,” she said to herself.

Ariel kicked the sand on the ground. Taking a deep breath she flashed her wings, preparing herself to leave but she immediately sensed the demon's presence.

She turned quickly and was greeted with the sight of the one demon she was waiting for. She almost smiled, however, faked a cough to conceal her smile due to the fact the demon was close and he would surely see the smile on her face.

“You called,” Grey stated calmly. He was trying not to show his excitement about being in the presence of the Angel but deep down he was very excited.

‘My Angel,’ he whispered to himself.

“You heard that,” Ariel stated as she raised her eyebrows in surprise.

“Yes,” Grey said.

“How come?” she asked.

“We have a bond, Angel. I suppose it is one of those things that happen because of a soulmate bond,” Grey said.

Ariel blushed and looked away. The demon referred to her as an angel. Even though she knew he did not mean it the way she thought, that did not stop her cheeks from heating up.

“All soulmate bonds do not work like that,” Ariel ultimately said.

“Really?” Grey asked.

Ariel looked at Grey. “You don't know much about soulmate bonds, do you?” she asked back.

“No,” Grey replied as he shrugged.

“Well, all soulmate bonds do not share a Mind Link. My parents don't have one,” she said.

“Mind Link is that what they call it?” Grey asked.

“Yes. So did you find a way to break the bond?” Ariel asked.

Grey nearly expressed his emotions of being sad about the Angel still trying to break the bond. However, he remained calm.

Which Angel will choose to have a bond with a demon, especially a demon like me who kills Angels?’ he asked himself.

“No,'' he said, answering Ariel's question. “You?” he asked

“No.”

Ariel’s eyes lingered on the demon longer than intended.

“He's truly handsome," she whispered to herself.

She cleared her throat shortly to hide her flustered cheeks from the demon.

The silence stretched between them and Grey, on the other hand, was trying to make his stare discreet. He found the Angel to be beautiful but he would in no way admit that out loud, or even think about telling her.

‘Whom am I kidding?’ he said to himself. ‘She would probably punch me in the face if I tell her that.’

“So what are we going to do about this?” Ariel questioned as she turned to look at the demon.

“I don't know,” Grey mumbled, not looking in her direction. He felt something altering inside him.

“I certainly do not want to get lost in those stunning eyes of hers,” he whispered to himself.

Ariel nodded her head as she took a look at her telephone to check the time.

It was getting late, and she didn’t want her parents to worry because of her.

“I have to go now,” she started, looking back at Grey.

Grey nodded his head. He was a little unhappy that she was leaving but he knew she had to go.

“We will meet here tomorrow,” Ariel said. “So we can figure out the way ahead,” she added.

Grey nodded his head quickly. He would make any excuse to be in her presence. He was aware he was falling prey to his emotions but he just could not help it.

“I will simply spend as much time I have with her before this bond is broken,” he said to himself.

Ariel flashed her wings to leave. However, she turned one final time to look at the demon. She smiled at him before she left.

Grey's heart skipped a beat after seeing the Angel's smile. His lips immediately curved into a beautiful smile too before he vanished.

Ariel went home with a smile on her face. Seeing the demon that day made her feel relaxed.

She was so distracted that she did not even notice she landed in the living room instead of her bedroom.

She looked around and noticed her family observing her.

Of course, it had to be at this time my entire family is in the living room,’ she said to herself.

“Someone seems to be in a good mood,” Elena said with a smile.

Ariel just smiled back at her Mom. Though, she did not say anything about the motive behind her smile.

“I will be in my room,” she announced, avoiding everyone's gaze as she hurried upstairs to her room.

Raguel watched his daughter leave, he had his suspicion about his daughter's behavior. His eyes moved to Michael who was seated. Michael nodded his head, confirming Raguel's suspicion.

Grey went home with a smile still playing on his lips. He opened the door to his house. He entered it and shut the door behind him.

He rested his back on the door. As he closed his eyes for a moment, he replayed the time he spent in the Angel's presence.

When he opened his eyes after a minute, he saw his mother standing in front of him with her arms crossed in front of her, watching him.

“What?” Grey mumbled

“You tell me,” Anna said.

Grey did not say anything as he straightened himself. He was about to walk past his mother before he heard a knock at the door.

He turned back to answer the door. When he opened it, he saw a demon standing outside.

The demon straightened himself as soon as Grey opened the door.

“Master wants to see you immediately,” the demon said and left after he delivered the message.

“It's time," Grey whispered.
