chapter 8

The next day, Ariel woke up feeling a bit cold. She was aware it was not due to the climate but because of someone.

“The demon,” she whispered

It had been two days since she last saw him and it felt like an eternity.

During those two days, she tried not to think about him but failed miserably because her mind constantly drifted to him, usually wondering what he was up to.

She stood up from her bed and took a quick bath before she made her way downstairs.

She noticed her Dad and Mom cuddling on the couch and her father whispering things to her mother, which made her laugh. She smiled at their close bond.

They are so in love,’ she thought to herself. ‘I can’t even have what my parents share,’ she added as she shook her head. She forced a smile on her face before she entered the living room.

“Good morning,” she said with a smile on her face as she greeted everyone.

“Good morning,” her parents greeted her back, matching the smile on her face.

She sat down on the couch, watching the show on TV, before she saw a radiant glimmer and her grandfather Samael landed in the living room holding her grandmother Maria’s hand.

Though Samael and Maria were not soulmates, they both still seemed to be so in love with each other. Ariel admired their relationship so much.

Both her grandparents sat down and she saw how her grandfather wasted no time in pulling her grandmother close. He wrapped his arms tightly around her and that made Ariel look away because she knew none of it could happen to her.

Maybe if I discover a way to do away with the bond I share with the demon, I can have a beautiful relationship like that,’ Ariel said to herself.

“I just hope there is a way,” she whispered, feeling down already.

From the corner of Raguel's eyes, he watched his daughter’s unhappy expressions. He was attempting to make his stare discreet, so as not to draw attention to his daughter, in particular from her mother. He did not want his spouse to worry about their daughter because he knew Elena very well. Once she would find out something was going on with her daughter, she might not rest until she figured out what was going on.

He completely respected Ariel's wishes right now. He was glad nobody was persuading his daughter to say what she was not ready for.

He sighed softly as he averted his eyes from his daughter and concentrated on his soulmate.

Raphael and Michael ultimately made an appearance in the living room. Both of them had left the residence early in the morning to stretch their wings. Since Angels don't sleep they could leave in the morning. Just pure angels, though. Half angels like Ariel and Elena had to sleep as their bodies didn’t refresh themselves.

The complete family was seated in the living room looking at the show on the screen. Within no time, the end credits rolled. Elena got up, but not before leaving a tender kiss on her husband's lips.

“Alright, let's go make lunch,” Elena said as she pulled her daughter up alongside her mother.

The three of them made their way to the kitchen to prepare the food. While making the meals, they talked about random things and laughed.

The meals were served and the entire family ate in silence. When they were done eating, Ariel washed the dishes and went straight to meet her Uncle.

“Hey,” Michael said once Ariel got into his view.

“Hey,” Ariel replied back as she sat next to her Uncle.

Michael looked at her and he could tell something was up with her. She was not in her regular, chatty mood. She looked unhappy.

“Are you alright?” Michael asked with concern in his voice.

Ariel nodded her head in response as she remained silent.

Michael did not say anything to her. He did not know what to say. He was not good with words. However, he was adept at listening, so he simply waited for Ariel to break the silence between them.

They were each seated in silence until Ariel took in a deep breath before she spoke.

“Do you know anything about the soulmate bond?” she asked.

Michael looked at her. He was wondering why she asked him about the soulmate bond. He was not the proper person for the question. He did not have a soulmate and he had, in no way, experienced the soulmate bond before.

Michael wondered why Ariel did not ask her parents. He looked up towards Raguel who had his arms wrapped around his soulmate.

'Raguel would know better,’ he thought to himself.

“What do you want to know about the soulmate bond?” Michael finally asked aloud.

He knew about the soulmate bond because he was taught about it when he used to be in Heaven. He knew the soulmate bond was very special but he was aware he would by no means get to experience it. He quickly shook his head. “I'm not supposed to think about that now.” He waited for Ariel to reply to his question.

Ariel opened her mouth to ask her question, however she shut it back. She did not know how to word her question. She did not want her uncle to see it the wrong way or suspect anything either.

That was the main reason she refused to ask her father due to the fact she was aware he would wriggle it out of her.

“Do you know if a soulmate bond can be broken?” Ariel asked quietly.

Michael jerked his head in the direction of Ariel. He gave her a skeptical look and was silent for a minute before he spoke. He cleared his throat to get Ariel's attention because she looked lost in deep thoughts.

Ariel turned to look at her uncle.

“I don't think a soulmate bond can be broken,” Michael replied gently. “Particularly, if the bond between the soulmates is a strong one,” Michael added.

Ariel nodded her head in understanding. She was not able to form any words in her mouth, A lot was changing too fast.

She knew the bond she shared with the demon was a sturdy one.

She sighed softly. “Thank you,” she said

Ariel stood up without exchanging any other word as she left for her bedroom.

Michael simply watched her leave. “I'm surprised why she asked that question. She seems off. Now I can understand why Raguel is concerned about her,” Michael said softly.

He sighed as he shook his head. He looked up and his eyes met with Raguel’s.

Raguel motioned for him to go outside. Michael nodded his head and made his way out.

Raguel whispered something to Elena before he left the living room and made his way outside to meet Michael.

When Raguel reached the outside of the house, he noticed Michael seated at a corner and without any delay Michael stood up when he saw Raguel come out.

“I understand my daughter talked to you about something and I want to know what she said to you,” Raguel said. “I'm worried about her,'' he whispered.

Michael nodded his head in understanding, he could see how worried his friend was about his daughter.

“She wants to know how to break a soulmate bond,” Michael replied in a low tone.

As soon as Michael said that, Raguel's eyes widened in shock. He was completely surprised.

“Why does she want to know that?” Raguel queried.

Michael shrugged. “I have no idea,” he replied

Raguel paced around, looking confused.

“Why would she ask such a question?” Raguel repeated, agitated.

Michael placed his hand on Raguel's shoulder. He gave it a little squeeze, making Raguel stop in his tracks.

“I know it's normal for you to worry about your daughter,” Michael said softly. “But I want you to stay calm. We have to think this through,” Michael said.

Raguel nodded his head.

Ariel was seated in her bedroom. She was feeling so uncomfortable. She needed to see the demon.

She was thinking if she should go back to the field or not. She was feeling very empty and she knew it was solely the demon that could make her feel less empty.

"I don't even know if he will show up," she mumbled.

She sighed as she laid on her bed. She closed her eyes for a second as she took in a deep breath.

Ariel opened her eyes a few minutes later, looking determined.

“I have to see him,” she said as she stood up from her bed.

She quickly took her cellphone which was on the bed and made her way downstairs. She wanted to leave without telling anybody. However, she was aware her Dad and Mom had been concerned about her lately. Leaving without telling them would make them worry more.

Ariel came downstairs. She saw her mother sitting with her grandmother.

“Mom, I'm going out,” Ariel said

Elena looked up at her daughter when she heard her voice.

“I will be back soon”, Ariel added

“Okay, but please be careful,” Elena said with a smile.

Raguel looked at his daughter as she headed for the door but he did not say anything. He just watched her leave.

Ariel took a deep breath the second she got outside.

“I'm coming," she whispered as she flashed her wings and left.
