chapter 31

When they arrived home, Grey was carefully laid on the mattress.

"Can't you heal him?" Ariel asked.

"No, his injuries are too deep. I have to treat him," Raphael explained before he rushed out of the room to get his supplies.

Anna was at her son's side within seconds but what she saw drained the colour from her face. Her legs weakened and she fell to the ground.

Tears ran down her face as she watched her unconscious son. She whispered his name continuously.

"I never knew you were the one," she whispered. Her body trembled as different thoughts ran through her head.

"What do you mean, Anna?" Ariel asked.

"I got a revelation that someone was going to get hurt but I never knew it was going to be my son, neither did I know the condition would be this worse," she explained.

Tears flowed freely from Ariel's eyes as she watched her grandfather treat her soulmate's wound.

"When is he going to wake up," Ariel asked

"I don't know for now, Ariel. His condition is really bad," Raphael replied truthfully.

He had never felt so helpless before, he wished there was something he could do. He watched as tears fell from his granddaughter's eyes. A sigh escaped his lips as he glanced at his son who had a pained expression on his face.

"We should leave him for now," Raphael spoke softly.

The entire family slowly left the room, leaving Ariel alone with her soulmate.

"Grey," she whispered painfully. "You have to pull through this. I can't continue living without you."

She rested her forehead on his as she continued to weep.

Raguel was pacing around. He had so many thoughts going through his mind. He glanced at Anna when he heard a painful sob escape her lips. He felt sorry for her and he wished there was something he could do.

"We have to do something, Raguel," Michael spoke.

"What can we do, Michael?"

"We have to visit Heaven. They can’t let Grey die, not after what he did for heaven."

"You are right, Michael. We should visit Heaven," Raguel agreed.

"I think I should come with you guys since I'm an elder Angel. It will be easier to get access to the superior Angels," Raphael said.

"Okay, let's go," Raguel said as he flashed his wings. Michael and Raphael did the same and they all left for Heaven.

When they arrived at Heaven’s gates, they were stopped by the gatekeeper.

"To what do we owe this visit?" the gatekeeper questioned.

"We have to see one of the superior Angels," Raphael replied.

"Why should I grant you entrance? You no longer live in heaven."

"It's a matter of urgency."

The gatekeeper eyed them before he nodded his head and allowed them access.

"Follow me," Raphael instructed.

Michael and Raguel did as they were told. Even though they lived in Heaven before, they had never been to this side of Heaven. It was a restricted area and only elder Angels could have access to it or Angels who have done something wrong. Their matters are usually dealt with there.

Both Michael and Raguel stopped walking as soon as Raphael did. They watched Raphael glanced around before a superior Angel appeared in front of them.

"Raphael," the superior Angel acknowledged him. The Angel glanced at Raguel and nodded but when the Angel's eyes met with Michael’s, the Angel stared intensely at him.

Raguel wondered why the Angel was staring at Michael. He saw the way Michael refused to meet the Angel's eyes and it baffled him. Did Michael know the Angel since before?

"Why are you here?" the Angel questioned.

"I presume you are aware Grey is lying unconscious on earth," Raphael said.

"Yes, I am."

"We are here to ask for help.”

"I'm sorry, Raphael, but I can't help you."

"Why," Raguel asked. "Grey did so much for heaven. He helped save the Angel's race. So, why can't you help him?"

"Grey might have helped save the Angel's race but he has done so many wrongs. He has killed so many Angels and he deserves to die," the Angel replied coldly.

Raguel flinched at the Angel's words. He could not believe what the Angel just said. He glanced at his father who was staring at the Angel with widened eyes.

"Grey can't die. What will happen to my daughter?"

"She will die too".

Raguel was about to speak but Raphael placed a hand on his shoulder. He shook his head at him before he glanced at the Angel.

"We are pleading with you to save Grey's life. He does not deserve to die. He killed Angel's out of ignorance."

The Angel looked at Raphael for a minute and nodded.

"I don't make all the decisions alone. The superior Angels have already sealed Grey's fate and that of his soulmate but I will try to convince them to rethink their decision."

Raphael nodded his head. "Thank you."

"Don't thank me yet, Raphael," the Angel glanced at Michael one last time and left.

"Let's go home," Raphael said.

They all flashed their wings and left Heaven.

When they got home, Anna immediately rushed to their side.

"What did they say?"

Raguel looked at her. He didn't know what to tell Anna. They were not certain if Grey would live.

"Talk to me, Raguel,” Anna insisted.

Raguel took a deep breath and explained everything that happened in Heaven.

"They can't do that." Tears flowed from her eyes as she crouched to the floor. "He is all I have left." More tears fell down her face.

Raguel was about to speak when he noticed his daughter standing on the stairs. He was certain she had heard everything. He watched as she ran upstairs and slammed her door shut. He glanced at his wife who was crying in her mother's arms.

Tears threatened to spill from his eyes too but he withheld them and walked out of the living room, but Michael followed him.

"Raguel," he whispered.

"We don't deserve this. How can they decide to take the life of my daughter and her soulmate? It's not fair," Raguel said angrily.

"I know, Raguel. I just hope the superior Angel we spoke to can convince the others."

Raguel allowed the tears to fall from his eyes. Michael sat next to him and Raguel rested his head on Michael's shoulder. Michael wrapped his arms around him as they both remained silent.

"Do you know that superior Angel?" Raguel questioned.

He noticed how Michael's entire body stiffened. He raised his head to stare at Michael and saw the way he was looking disturbed.

"Michael?"

"I don't want to talk about it."

Raguel gave him a skeptical look before he nodded his head.

"I will go check on Ariel," Raguel stood up and looked at Michael one last time before he left.

When he reached his daughter's room, he saw her staring at nothing. Her eyes were swollen and her arms were wrapped tightly around Grey.

"Ariel?"

She turned to look at her father and a tear slipped down her face. Raguel quickly kneeled next to her and wiped the tears from her eyes.

"So, we are going to die."

" Don't say that. Nothing will happen to you and Grey".

"But..."

Raguel shook his head at her. "I'm sure the Angels will not let anything happen to you and Grey.”

Raguel hoped in his heart that whatever he spoke would turn out to be true. He could never bear to lose his daughter. He wondered what would become of his wife. He shook his head slightly.

‘Please heaven, have mercy on us,’ he
thought.
