chapter 22

Grey was sitting on his bed, staring into space. He had been like that ever since Ariel was captured by the demons. He had not slept nor had he eaten anything.

His mind was constantly wandering to his soulmate. He was aware she was not faring well because he could feel her pain and her emotions which made him very weak.

He stood up from the bed, headed to the window, and stared outside.

“Please be alright,” he whispered. “Be strong for me,” he added.

He heard a knock on the door but he did not even make a move to open the door or ask the person standing outside to come in. He just remained quiet.

A minute later, he heard the door open, and sensed his mother's presence. Though, he did not turn to look at her.

“Son,” Anna called out as she moved closer to him.

Grey remained silent as he continued to stare outside.

“You have to eat something,” Anna said.

“How can I eat?” Grey whispered. “I don't even know if she has eaten,” he said.

“I know son but you need your strength,” Anna pointed out.

“No,” Grey shook his head. “I will not eat anything until she comes back to me.”

Anna sighed. She knew it was difficult to convince her son.

“Please Grey,” Anna pleaded.

“I can't, Mom. I just want her back,” Grey mumbled. “I cannot stay without her,” he added.

There was silence between the two of them before Grey spoke again.

“If something happens to her, I will kill myself,” he said sternly.

Anna flinched at her son's words. “Don't say that,” Anna said quickly. “Don't ever say that,” she warned. “Ariel will return,” Anna continued confidently.

Grey remained silent as his mother pulled him in a tight embrace.

“Let's go downstairs,” Anna said after a minute.

Grey nodded his head as his Mom led the way out of the room.

Ariel's eyes were closed but she was not sleeping. She was so weak from all the beating she had got. Her body was sore. She tried to sit up straight, however, a little scream escaped her lips.

Ariel heard the door click open. She opened her eyes slowly to see who was coming in but hissed when she saw the person.

“Hello there,” Erna started with a smug look.

Ariel glared at her.

“Look at you,” Erna said as she slapped her hard on the face.

Ariel shut her eye's tight as she absorbed in the pain.

“I do not even understand why Josh wants to wait before killing you,” Erna said. “I will simply do it now. And I will make it look like an accident,” she added.

Ariel's eyes widened in shock as she stared at Erna's eye's which were now red.

Erna stepped closer to Ariel, wrapped her arms around her neck and tightened her hold on her neck.

Ariel gasped, attempting to battle out of her grip. But she was fortunate when the door opened and Josh came in, pushing Erna away from Ariel.

“What the hell do you think you are doing?” Josh shouted at Erna.

“What?” Erna barked. “Just kill her already,” she shouted as she stormed out of the room in anger.

Josh looked at Ariel before he left the room.

Ariel was breathing very heavily; she was trying to regulate her breathing; she could not believe Erna just tried to kill her.

Grey was seated in the living room with Ariel's family when he abruptly gasped for air.

Anna looked at her son with concern. “What is it, Grey?” Anna asked quickly.

Grey was struggling to breathe as Anna squeezed his hand tightly. The entire family was looking at Grey as they watched him battle to breathe. They knew it was coming from Ariel which made Elena sob on her husband's shoulders.

Grey abruptly began breathing properly.

“Ariel,” he whispered as his body shook and tears flowed down his eyes.

After a minute, he was calm and he stood up immediately. “I can not just sit here and wait for them to kill her. I will go look for her,” he said, attempting to go, but Raguel stopped him.

“Sit, Grey,” he said.

Grey wanted to protest, however, Raguel shook his head at him.

“Just sit down,” Raguel stated once more.

Grey, in the end, sat down while waiting for Raguel to speak.

“I understand you are worried about Ariel. So are we,” Raguel said, motioning to everyone in the room. “But we need to think things through.”

Grey nodded his head.

“Where do you think your brother will take Ariel to?” Raguel queried.

“I don't know,” Grey replied after wondering for a minute. “Josh is a very foxy person and I'm positive my Uncle is not the one that dispatched them to attack us. If it had been so, Ariel would have been dead by now,” Grey said in a low tone.

Grey shut his eyes tight, trying to think of some place Josh could have taken Ariel to.

Anna stood up from the living room and headed to her room. Grey watched her leave and was surprised why she was in such a hurry.

He averted his eyes from his mother. He had his mind occupied with his soulmate.

Raguel paced around, thinking of an answer and Elena was not faring nicely because she was sobbing continuously.

Anna came downstairs and stood in front of her son.

“I know where Ariel is,” she said.

Grey looked at his mother with a confused frown.

“What?” Grey asked, standing up.

“I know where she is,” Anna started again.

“How?” Grey furrowed his brows.

“There is no time to ask questions. We have to find Ariel first,” Anna said.

Grey agreed with his mother. He would bring up the issue some other time but right now, Ariel was very important.

“Where is she?” Raguel asked.

Anna motioned for them to sit, and she told them the place.

Grey did not have any idea which places his mother was talking about and it made him wonder how she was aware of the place, for according to her she had never left the demon zone prior to coming here.

He shook his head and concentrated on what his Mom was saying.

When Anna finished speaking, Raguel stood up and paced around for a while. “I think we should leave now,” he suggested.

“Yes, I agree. We can no longer waste any time,” Grey said as he stood up.

Michael nodded his head. “We must certainly go now.”

Maria looked at her husband. “I think you should go with them,” she said.

“No, I can't. I won't leave you alone here,” Samael said.

“Our granddaughter needs you. I promise I will be fine,” Maria said, attempting to persuade her husband.

“But...”

Maria silenced him with a smooth kiss on his lips.

“Please,” she added. “Elena will be here with us, so there will be no problem.”

Samael, however, was feeling reluctant to go but believed in his daughter's ability to take care of her mother and Anna. So he nodded his head as he agreed to go.

“Thank you,” Maria whispered.

“Let's go now,” Raguel said as he flashed his wings.

“Take care of yourself, Mom”, Grey requested.

“I will,” Anna said as she hugged her son briefly. “Be careful,” she added as she kissed her son's forehead before he left.

Ariel was attempting to set her hands free from the rope. She was very weak and her body was sore.

She just hoped to get out of this situation. As she was struggling, she sensed a familiar presence close by. Her eyes widened in surprise.

“Grey,” she whispered.

Suddenly Grey appeared in the room alongside the Angels.

Grey's eyes landed on Ariel.

“Ariel,” he murmured as he rushed to her side. “Are you alright?” he asked.

He shook his head when he saw the situation of Ariel's body.

“Josh is a dead man,” Grey muttered furiously.

He quickly loosened the rope on her hand before Josh barged in the room with the demons alongside him.

“You,” Grey barked, pointing at Josh.

“Did you come to take me, my love?” someone asked from behind Josh and Grey knew that voice very well.

“Erna.”

“Did you miss me”? she queried.

“I should have killed you when I had the chance,” Grey muttered angrily.

He wasted no time as he lunged for Josh. The other Angels in the room started fighting off the demons too.

Ariel had her eyes set on Erna. Seeing her soulmate had given her strength. She stood up and lunged towards Erna, who was not expecting the attack.

Ariel dragged her by her hair and shoved her against the opposite wall, making her scream. Erna was no match for Ariel. She struggled to get out of Ariel’s grip but Ariel held her strongly.

“Grey is mine,” Ariel said sternly and snapped Erna’s neck, dropping her dead physique on the ground before she fell to the ground.

Josh and Grey continued fighting, Grey quickly held onto Josh's neck. He was about to snap it when his eyes met with his soulmate’s who shook her head at him.

Grey sighed and reluctantly let go of Josh but knocked him unconscious before he rushed to Ariel's side.

“Grey,” she whispered.

Grey smiled widely at Ariel.

“I missed you so much,” he said

“Me too,” Ariel seconded him.

“Let's go home,” Grey said, picking Ariel up as he vanished alongside the Angels.
