chapter 15

Grey and Ariel continued to talk to each other and laugh about random things. Ariel was glad that they were both comfortable in the presence of each other.

She noticed Grey would deliberately brush his legs against hers. She wasn't complaining because she wanted it too but she would have genuinely opted for their skin to skin contact. Though, the wretched material on their bodies was stopping that from happening.

“At least this is better than nothing,” she whispered to herself with a smile.

“Did you hear what I just said?” Grey asked, looking at Ariel questioningly.

“What?” Ariel asked, looking at Grey. “What did you say? Sorry, I was distracted,” she said.

“Why were you smiling?” Grey asked.

Ariel shook her head and chuckled softly. “It's nothing,” she later said, still smiling.

Grey raised his eyebrows at her. “Really?” he asked.

“Don't do that,” Ariel laughed softly.

“What?” Grey asked with a little smile.

“Raising your brows.”

“Why?”

“Because I find it cute when you do that,” Ariel said with a smile.

“You find that cute, or you find me cute?” Grey asked, teasing Ariel a bit.

Ariel blushed and averted her gaze from Grey which made Grey grin.

“So, what did you ask?” Ariel queried.

“It's not important,” Grey replied.

Ariel glanced at her smartphone and saw it was nearly lunchtime.

“I will go help my mother out in the kitchen,” Ariel said, standing up.

Grey nodded his head as he watched Ariel leave the room.

“I honestly like her,” he said aloud as he rested his head on the headboard and closed his eyes with a beautiful smile playing on his lips.

Ariel went downstairs and joined her mother in the kitchen.

“Hey,” Elena greeted her daughter softly as she continued with her work.

“Hi,” Ariel responded cheerfully.

The silence stretched between the mother and daughter as they prepared lunch but Elena would occasionally glance at her daughter, and every time she looked at her daughter, there was always a smile on her lips.

“Okay, do you want to tell me what put you in this mood precisely? Or should I ask, who?” Elena asked with a smile.

“I do not know what you are talking about,” Ariel replied as she continued to chop the onions.

“Yes, you do,” Elena insisted. “Where have you been?” Elena asked.

“Upstairs,” Ariel replied casually without sparing a glance at her mother.

“With Grey, I suppose,” Elena said with a raised brow, which made Ariel remember the time when Grey did that too. Her smile widened when she pictured Grey's face in her mind.

“See,” Elena stated, pulling Ariel out of her thoughts. “You are glowing,” she added. “You were with him, right?” Elena asked.

Ariel nodded her head.

Elena did not question her daughter again. ‘Whatever happened upstairs between them must be good,’ she said to herself as she continued what she was doing.

An hour later, lunch was served and the entire family ate in silence.

When they were done, Ariel took the dishes to the kitchen.

“Let me help,” Grey said from behind Ariel, startling her a little. “Sorry,” Grey made an apologetic face.

“It's fine,” Ariel said.

“Can I help?” Grey asked once more.

Ariel nodded her head.

Anna and Elena watched their kids from afar with a smile on their faces.

When they were done washing the dishes, they entered the living room and Anna and Elena quickly turned their faces and pretended as if they were not staring at them. So did the rest of the family who was equally gazing at them. All of them pretended as if they were watching the show on the TV.

Grey decided to step outside for a while. He made his way to the door and left the house. He stood outside and glanced around as he took a deep breath. “This place is so comforting as compared to the demon zone,” he whispered.

He wrapped his arms around himself and sighed. Michael was also standing outside, lost in his very own world.

Grey had noticed that the Angel was not the speaking type and he constantly looked lost in thought every time he saw him.

Grey sighed as he averted his eyes from the Angel and looked elsewhere before he heard the front door click open. He turned to see the person coming out and realized it was his mother.

“Hey, son,” Anna said as she wrapped her arms around her body. “It's cold outside,” she murmured.

Grey glanced at his Mom before he spoke. “It's not that cold. I'm even enjoying it,” he said

“I understand you do not experience cold that much, however, I do,” Anna said.

“I know. Mom, why did Dad strip you of your powers?” Grey asked.

“It's not important, Grey,” Anna replied. “So what happened between you and Ariel?” she asked.

“You are warding off the question once more, Mom,” Grey pointed out

“I told you it's not important,” Anna said, slightly raising her voice.

“Why are you getting all worked up about it then?” Grey questioned.

“You are not listening to me, Grey. I don't want to talk about it,” Anna said as she remained adamant.

“You never want to talk about it,” Grey raised his voice too.

“Grey, stopped this argument right now,” Anna shouted.

Grey simply sighed and walked past his mom, venturing back into the house. He noticed the way Ariel and her family were looking at him. However, he refused to meet anybody's eyes as he made his way upstairs.

Ariel and her family heard their raised voices and Ariel was not feeling very uncomfortable due to the fact that she was aware Grey was upset.

“Go meet him,” Elena urged her daughter.

Ariel wasted no time in getting up as she made her way upstairs.

Grey's door was locked. Ariel took a deep breath before she knocked softly on the door.

“I don't want to talk,” Grey's voice rang softly.

“I know,” Ariel said. “Just let me in,” she added.

Grey sighed as he dragged his physique from the bed. He opened the door, allowing Ariel in as he returned back to the bed.

Ariel stood at the doorway for a minute before she made her way to the bed.

She looked at Grey who had his head against the headboard. However, without further delay, she sat down on the bed and Grey rested his head on her shoulder.

He wasn't certain if it was an excellent idea but when he felt Ariel's whole body relax, it made him sighed in solace as he closed his eyes and drifted off.

Ariel watched Grey sleep. She did not attempt to move. She used the opportunity to study the features of Grey's face. He had thick eyebrows which were neatly trimmed. Her eyes went to Grey's lips. He had ffull, totally kissable lips Ariel thought to herself as she nipped her lips.

“How will it feel to get a taste of his lips? So kissable,” she whispered

“What is kissable?” Grey murmured as he opened his eyes and straightened himself.

Ariel's cheeks heated up as she averted her eyes from Grey.

“I thought you were asleep?” Ariel asked without meeting Grey's eyes.

“I was, however, I heard what you said,” Grey murmured looking at Ariel.

They sat in silence for a while before Ariel spoke up. “Do you want to talk about what happened?” Ariel asked softly.

Grey sighed and Ariel could sense it was something Grey didn’t want to talk about.

“It's okay if you do not want to talk about it,” Ariel said quickly, still gazing at the expressions on Grey's face.

“Just give me a minute,” Grey said

“Take all the time you need,” Ariel murmured. “I'm not going anywhere.”

Grey nodded his head. When he felt at ease, he spoke up. “I don't understand why my mother is refusing to talk to me, I feel like she is hiding something from me. In the demon's zone, they say we are different. I have tried so many times to ask my mother why we are different. However, she always looks for a way to avoid the question.

"I'm sure you know demons don't sleep but I and my mother do and I don't really know why but she said it was because my dad stripped her of her powers."

"You don't believe her?"

"No,” Grey sighed. “I don't understand why she does not want to talk to me."

Ariel looked at the sad expressions on Grey's face. “Don't get yourself worked up, Grey. She will tell you in some time,” Ariel added.

“When?” Grey murmured.

“When she is ready,” Ariel spoke back.

Grey looked at Ariel and for a moment, his eyes went at her lips but Ariel did not miss Grey's gaze on her lips.

Grey leaned forward a little, giving enough room for Ariel to back off if she wanted to, but Ariel leaned ahead instead. However before the lips connected, they were disturbed.

“Grey...”

Both Ariel and Grey sprung up quickly at the sound of Anna's voice.

“Oh, so sorry, I will come again later,” Anna said, attempting to leave the room.

“Don't worry about that,” Ariel said. “I was just leaving,” she added as she shot a look at Grey before she left.

Anna moved over to the bed and sat next to her son.

“Grey,” she called softly. But Grey ignored her. “I'm sorry about what happened earlier on,” she said. “I do not like it when we argue,” she continued.

“You don't tell me things and it's getting frustrating,” Grey said

“I know, son, but I will tell you soon. I promise,” Anna said

Grey nodded his head. “I'm sorry too for raising my voice at you."

“It's okay, son,” Anna said.

“So you and Ariel were about...”

“Don't say it, Mom,” Grey said with an amused expression on his face.

“Why?” Anna asked

“Were you about...”

“Mom! Stop it,” Grey protested with a smile.

Anna shook her head at her son and laughed hard.

“You like her, don't you?” Anna asked.

“I do,” Grey admitted to his mother with a smile as Anna hugged her son.
