Chapter 11
This was not fun Val decided two weeks later. Raising children was a whole level of Hell she didn't know existed. To make matters worse, Lily would lull her into a false sense of security with her hugs and doe eyes while her brother was making horrific mischief.
She was in an all out war at this point with AJ. She would have been in awe of his shenanigans if they weren't all designed specifically to torment her. She was ready to be done and get back home.
She had told Meg as much during their second weekly check-in and been rudely reminded of her six month minimum obligation to pass the apprenticeship. It was inhuman to subject a demon to such an extent. They were supposed to be tormentors, not humans.
Adding to her frustration was the tension she felt between her and her damn boss. She played it cool during their interactions but he haunted her dreams. She needed to get laid, flicking her bean just wasn't cutting it.
She was planning to do just that tonight at the club but as the clock struck five pm, she realized he was late. Again. She groaned in frustration.
"All right then, are we ready munchkins? Time to storm the castle," Val declared.
Both kids cheered their agreement and took off for the elevator. Val could tell that for Lily it was all an adventure, but AJ looked at it as his escape from her. She was fine with that, especially since it annoyed Mr. My Time is Important so much to have her barge in with kids each night.
The twins let out their battle cry when the doors slid open only to stop abruptly at their father's presence. Val was shocked as well but also relieved. She was surprised when AJ grabbed her hand to get her attention.
"Can we still storm the castle?" he asked with doe eyes.
He must be taking lessons from his sister Val thought. Alexander stepped in and scooped up Lily with a questioning look at her. She had no idea how he managed to look so good after a full day of work, she was sure she looked bedraggled.
"It looks like we don't need to tonight munchkin," Val answered him.
Val immediately felt a pang of guilt at his crest fallen expression. Darn little hellion was proving to be an apt tutor in psychological warfare indeed. She was picking up all sorts of tricks from him to take back to Hell.
"How about Monday I teach how to properly storm a castle?" Val suggested.
AJ's eyes lit back up and he nodded eagerly. Alexander just shook his head and walked to the kitchen while he carried Lily and AJ followed. She heard dishes clanking as they began digging into the dinner they had 'helped' her cook.
Val retreated to her bedroom and flopped on her bed. She was exhausted, horny, and needed a stiff drink. Horny finally won out and she stripped her clothes as she went into the bathroom to shower.
Steam filled the room as she set the water as hot as it would go. She needed to sanitize after AJ had smeared her face with poo she had mistaken for chocolate. She could still smell it even after she was sure it had all been scrubbed off.
Val shampooed her hair vigorously to make sure to remove any surprises the kids may have left there as well. She scrubbed her body down with her sweet pea scented wash and shaved her legs and pits to a smooth finish. Cutting off the water, she blindly reached for a towel only to find open air.
"That little bastard," Val grunted.
She knew damn well she had put a towel in here this morning. AJ had not been respecting the rule of not coming into her room. She could easily guess who had filched her towel in hopes she would have to come out dripping wet and embarrassed.
The joke is on him Val thought as she erupted into a quick blast of fire. Instantly dry, she went about massaging lotion on before going to her closet for an outfit. She grabbed a pair of black lacy thongs and a matching push up bra before putting on her come fuck me black dress.
She went back into the bathroom and did up her hair in a half updo that allowed her curls to flow out like a waterfall from the clip while arranging part of it to frame her face. She took care to apply her makeup with mysterious allure without crossing into street walker territory. She was ready to go hunt down some prey.
Her phone chirped as she slipped on her black heels, and she picked it up to see a message from her brother Zaebosil. He was on his way up and just as ready as her to grab some grub and find some delectable humans to ravish. She grabbed her bag and jacket and headed out of her room.
As she passed the dining room, she caught Alexander's eye and he froze with his fork midway to his mouth. Lily and AJ turned to look at her as well and Val felt slightly uncomfortable. AJ turned back to his food without a second thought, but Lily kept staring.
"Will I be pretty like you when I grow up?" Lily asked her.
"I have no doubt you will be even prettier," Val assured her.
She dropped a kiss on her head and then headed straight to the elevator. She was standing there impatiently when a strong hand on her arm spun her around. Alexander looked at her with fury in his stormy blue eyes.
"Where are you going dressed like that?" Alexander demanded.
"Out," she responded flatly.
"Out where and with whom," he demanded again.
"First name Nonya, last name Business," Val said as she shook her arm from his grip.
"Val," Alexander growled in warning.
The sound of her name on his lips sent ripples of pleasure down her body. She needed to get out of there quickly before she lost herself. He was intoxicating, a tantalizing tidbit of forbidden fruit dangled in front of her.
"Mr. Smith," Val growled back. "Need I remind you that my time is my own? Per our agreement, I won't be bringing anyone back here for canoodling, I'll make sure to handle that elsewhere."
Alexander opened his mouth but closed it as the elevator doors opened. Z was dressed up in leather pants and combat boots. His black shirt was opened at the top to reveal a good chunk of his tanned and muscular chest. His short dark hair and dark eyes only added to his allure.
He stepped off the elevator and grabbed her hand to twirl her around. As she spun around, he let out a low whistle. Stepping back he applauded in appreciation before looking over to Alexander and looking him up and down.
"You be looking good tonight baby girl," Z said as Alexander shot him daggers. "But who is this tall glass of water?"
Alexander looked as if he had just been slapped. Z had taken this in a different direction than he anticipated. Val took pleasure in the sudden discomfort he was feeling after he assumed what was happening.
"May I present my employer, Mr. Smith. Mr. Smith, this is my brother, Z," Val said smugly.
Alexander looked like he wanted to swallow his tongue. His discomfiture was apparent in the face of Z's hungry eyes. He hesitantly took Z's proffered hand and shook it in greeting.
"Is he off limits since he is your boss?" Z asked, never taking his eyes off Alexander.
"I think he is off limits since he doesn't swing that way Z," Val said as she smacked his arm.
Z looked at her finally and swung around, slinging an arm across her shoulder. They walked into the elevator together and turned to see Alexander glaring at her again. She pushed the button for the bottom floor and glared back.
"Don't knock it until you try it," Z said, blowing Alexander a kiss as the doors closed.
Val giggled as his eyes darted back to Z in alarm before he was blocked by the metal doors. As the elevator began to descend, she could feel tension leaving her body the more distance was put between them. Z pulled out his phone and checked a message from the group chat.
"He is hot," Z stated. "I need a drink after all that tension."
"Now you see why I needed to get away," Val said. "I can't be ruining the reputation of Nannys'R'Us by jumping my boss."
"I had no idea you were so well disciplined," Z commended. "What if he jumps you?"
The elevator reached the bottom floor, and they stepped out into the busy lobby. People were packed all around in clumps as they waited to get into the restaurants or shop at the stores. The aromas of the dinners being served were tantalizing and her stomach let out a loud rumble in anticipation.
"Completely off limits, I'm more concerned with finding a good steak at the moment," Val said.
Z laughed as they headed to the steak house to meet the rest of their party. After her last two weekends being sucked up by intensive training sessions with Meg and Lammia, she was not only ready for a break, but she also needed it. Her earthside siblings had been more than willing to provide her with some distraction and play wing demon.
She grinned wide when they walked in and a chorus of whistles and hoots greeted her from a corner. She loved her siblings, and she could feel her mood being bolstered already. Her sister, Amahidna scooted over on the round bench to make room for her, patting the spot next to her in invitation.
"Girl, if you weren't my sister, I would throw you on the table and gobble you up," Ama gushed.
Val warmed at the compliment a leaned over to kiss her on the cheek.
"Same sis," Val assured her.
Ama was dressed in a black mini skirt with knee high red boots. The boots matched the silky red top she was wearing with a scooped neck and exposed back that showed off her wing tattoos. The exposed swell of her breasts would be hard for anyone to avoid gazing at, but her violet eyes were her shining feature. They were alluring as they sparkled with glee and drew in anyone caught in their beam.
She had seen Ama use those eyes to lull humans and demons alike into her traps. They were hypnotizing not just because of their vibrant color but because of her abilities. All she needed was eye contact and she could get in your mind and take control. It made her especially well suited for her apprenticeship as a nurse.
"How is the hospital going?" Val asked her.
"Up and down as always," Ama told her. "I had particular fun earlier messing with a man that has been beating on his woman. I'm a little sad that my time will be ending soon but I have been up here for a couple of years."
"Has it really been that long?" Val asked. "How do you keep sane up here for that long."
Ama laughed musically, drawing the attention of a few tables around them. Val was hoping to glean some nugget of knowledge, six months felt like it was going to be an eternity.
"Earth has its perks, I've been eying the new resident," Ama told her.
"Her boss is off limits," Z told the group. "I wouldn't be strong enough not to tap that, our girl has some real will power."
"Please Z, you would tap anything," Bachon jabbed. "Maybe she just has better taste."
"Oh no, hold on," Z protested.
He started rooting in his jacket when the waitress came over and started putting water and drinks down on the table. Val was surprised when a glass of amber liquid was put in front of her. She tried to hand it back when Ama stopped her.
"I ordered it for you honey, it is bourbon," Ama told her.
Val relaxed and smiled gratefully at her. It was time to get things started so she grabbed the glass and gave a small sniff. Her eyes closed in appreciation of the aroma filling her nose and she sighed in appreciation as her first sip blazed a path down her throat. It was smooth and left a pleasant burn on the way down.
"I like it," Val decided out loud.
Her siblings laughed at her reaction while the waitress smiled shyly at Ama.
"Is everyone ready to order or do you need more time?" she asked the group.
"Oops," Ama apologized. "I didn't give her a menu. Can we get some spinach artichoke dip while they have time to look it over?"
Ama took the cherry out of her drink and popped it in her mouth. She swirled her tongue around the plump fruit before plucking it free from the stem. Never breaking eye contact with the waitress, she dragged the stem down her chin and neck to the valley between her breasts.
The waitress wiped her palms on her apron nervously as a flush crept up her neck. She smiled tremulously at Ama, unable to tear her eyes away.
"Of course," the girl said breathlessly. "Anything you want."
Val jabbed Ama with an elbow to the ribs and she hissed as she looked away from the waitress. The waitress blinked as she took a full breath.
"I'll be back in a few minutes," she announced as she rushed off.
Z was laughing at Ama's disappointed look as he turned his phone around to show them a picture of Alexander. It was slightly tilted but it showed Alexander holding her arm and glaring at her.
"Damn," Ama said. "Did you dazzle him? That man looks like he is in deep."
"Fuck, that's enough to make me think twice about swinging that way," Bachon agreed.
Val suddenly found herself feeling both defensive and possessive. It was an odd mix where she wanted to protest having used any abilities and letting them know he was off limits. He was technically off limits, but to her, not them. As much as she loved her siblings, the thought of any of them touching Alexander made her blood start to boil.
What was wrong with her? She should not feel this way. This was her family and Alexander was not her property. She had no claim to the man so why was she feeling jealous?
"I did not dazzle him," Val protested.
"No one has ever looked at me like that without being dazzled," Ama said.
If Val did not know her sister better, she would say there was a note of envy in her voice. That was a ridiculous notion, everyone knew her sister had a strong distaste for romantic entanglements. Ama was all about the fun of the chase, once she had caught her prey she would use them until the pleasure ran out and dump them.
"The only way he was looking at me was with anger for walking around his children like this," Val said as she waved a hand up and down her body.
"Sure," Bachon said as he downed his shot of vodka. "Keep telling yourself that."
Val sent him a withering glare and her siblings all laughed.
"I'd be willing to bite the bullet and break the rule," Z said.
"Well I'm not," Val stated firmly. "If I get kicked from the apprenticeship for misconduct then bye bye dreams of the torture department."
"That wouldn't be so bad," Bachon suggested. "You could come over to the Guard with us."
Val scoffed at the idea. She had the aptitude for the Guard, a special division within Lucifer's army that was stationed on Earth, but it had held no appeal for her. She wanted to be down in Hell, where she felt normal and was free to show her true being.
"And give up my slot as a designer, I think not," Val said casually.
"You'll have to put in at least five years as a low level torturer before you can even apply for promotion to designer," Z pointed out.
"Normally, yes," Val agreed. "But I'm not normal, I'm exceptional."
"And cocky," Bachon admired. "You sure you don't want to join the Guard with me and Z."
"Even if I did, I would still have to behave while under Meg's thumb," Val shot at him. "Besides, you are in the presence of the first apprentice with a reserved slot as a designer."
Ama coughed violently as she spit out her drink on their brothers. Both men drew back as they started wiping the liquid off their faces.
"You're kidding," Ama gasped out.
"Nope," Val said proudly.
Z picked up his glass and held it out to her with a grin ear to ear.
"I'll toast to that," Z said. "To our little sis, the smartest and strongest of us all."
"Here, here," Ama and Bachon echoed.
They all raised their glasses and clanked them together before drinking. This was what she had missed when her siblings all went earthside, their camaraderie. With them she was complete, and it was the best part of being up here. She would miss them sorely when she went back to Hell. At least Ama would be coming back close to the same time, but it was not the same without all four of them together.
