Final Chapter

Vincent was in his hotel room getting dressed into some casual clothing. He wanted to be dressed comfortably when he met with Eva Lewis again. Dr. Spencer had agreed to bring her to his house in the woods. He smiled at the thought of seeing her there again. It had been months since he'd seen her. Now she'd be back at the place they had first met. How appropriate.

He picked up a stuffed teddy bear that was dressed in a cowboy hat and a red bandana. It was going to be an early gift to his unborn grandchild. He was about to pick up his car keys when a knock on the door stopped him. He looked through the peephole to see Special Agent Sally Roux.

"Shit," he muttered.

"I can hear you," she said from the other side of the door.

She wasn't shy. Vincent had to admire that. He opened the door, "Agent Roux, I was just about to leave if you don't mind."

"I don't mind one bit McDaniels. We need to talk."

"What about?"

Sally smiled, "About the Deadly Disciple."

Vincent scoffed, "Please don't tell me you're going to accuse me of that today. Haven't we already been through this? I told you I have nothing to do with the fans of my son."

"You claim him so easily?"

"Why wouldn't I? He was my son. My flesh and blood. You killed him, remember?"

Sally gritted her teeth, "Still, I have questions for you."

Vincent sighed as he looked at his watch. "Fine. Let's get this over with." He let her in and muttered, "The good doctor can wait."

~Meanwhile at the Hospital~

Dr. Spencer was sweating bullets. He wiped his clammy palms against his pants. He didn't think he could pull it off but he did. His brother's badge and an FBI jacket went a long way. He stuffed the fake warrant that he had showed the medical staff into his pocket as he wheeled Eva Lewis out of the hospital and to his car. Getting out of the ward with Eva was the tricky part. She had still been on a hospital bed, attached to an IV. Once they left the elevator, he ditched the bed and transferred her to a wheelchair. He had to act quickly before anyone noticed him and before an actual FBI agent came to check on her.

"Idiots," Dr. Spencer chuckled. He quickly wheeled her outside to a back parking lot designated for medical staff. He transferred her quickly and buckled her in, "Safety first." He ran around the car and left for Vincent McDaniels' house in the woods.

Also at the Hospital Parking Lot

Officer Dempsey was at the hospital. He was off duty and in his personal car. He wanted to see how Joelynn was doing. He was having a tough time finding a parking space that wasn't a mile away from the hospital's entrance and refused to pay for valet parking. It was a hospital not a club. He turned into the doctor's parking lot when he noticed something strange.

"Isn't that the shrink from the other day?" Dempsey leaned forward and recognized the woman in the wheelchair. "What the hell?"

Dempsey didn't know what was going on but this seemed suspicious. He decided he would follow them.

~At Jacob's Home~

"Jacob it's me!" Joelynn listened to the sound of the voice from the other side of the door as Jacob stared at her.

"What did you just say?" Jacob asked her.

Joelynn whispered, "His name isn't Edward..."

"Joelynn that isn't funny." Jacob walked past her and opened the door. Edward came in and hugged Jacob, kissing him on the cheek, "Hey how are you doing?"

"I'm fine thanks for coming. Oh, I invited my best friend, Joelynn." Jacob stepped aside to let his guest see her.

Joelynn took a shaky breath, "Hello James. Oh I'm sorry, should I call you Edward? Or do you prefer Detective Smith?"

"Joelynn what the hell are you talking about?" Jacob looked from Edward to Joelynn.

"Hi Joelynn. I didn't know you'd be here."

"Surprise!" she couldn't hide the bitterness from her voice. "Do you mind explaining why you're lying to Jacob?"

"I'm not lying to Jacob."

"Yes you are!" Joelynn yelled. She was devastated. The man she had a mini-crush on for months had just kissed her best friend and he was also a liar. "Your name isn't Edward. It's James! James Smith. I've known you for months!"

"What the hell is going on here?" Jacob asked. He too was upset now.

"My name is James Edward Smith...and I'm bisexual Joelynn."

"No you aren't!" she shouted.

"I'm sorry but you don't get to decide that," he admonished her.

"I don't believe this!" Joelynn was confused and angry. She felt betrayed.

"Edward why didn't you tell me you knew Joelynn?" Jacob asked.

"Don't call him that Jacob! His name is James!"

"Joelynn calm down," Jacob wanted an explanation.

"Oh for God's sake," Edward reached into the pocket in his jacket, and pulled out a gun. He aimed it at Joelynn who froze.

"Edward, what the hell are you doing?" Jacob screamed, "Put the damn gun away!"

"C'mon now Jacob. Don't tell me you don't understand what's happening here? If you don't do what I want, I'll shoot her. Do you understand what I'm saying?"

"What the hell? Why are you doing this?"

"Because I can. If you scream Joelynn, I won't hesitate to shoot you. I'm so sick of hearing you complain...you'd be doing me a favor."

"What's wrong with you?" Jacob asked Edward, "Why are you doing this?"

Edward laughed, "Haven't you figured it out yet? I'm the one in the newspapers. The one that kidnapped Joelynn's precious cousin. The one that's going to eventually kill the two of you. I'm the Deadly Disciple."

~Meanwhile~

Dr. Spencer arrived at the house in the woods and struggled to lift Eva into the home. He laid her out on the sofa. She was changed into FBI warm ups. "You're beautiful Eva. I'm not sure what Vincent wants with you but I wish I didn't have to involve you in all this."

He was about to call Vincent when he heard a voice outside.

"Eva? Eva Lewis are you there?"

Dr. Spencer looked out to see a man looking around the house. He grabbed his gun and walked to the door. "Hey there, can I help you?"

"I'm Officer Dempsey. I could've sworn I saw Eva Lewis taken here with you. She was a victim of a kidnapping. She's supposed to be in the hospital."

Dr. Spencer smiled, "I'm sorry. You must not have gotten the message. The FBI is keeping her here. This is to be her safe house for the next few days."

Officer Dempsey looked at him in disbelief, "You're keeping her at a former crime scene?"

"It's the least likely place they'd look," Dr. Spencer smiled.

"Do you mind if I take a look at her?"

Dr. Spencer's hand tightened on the gun he had behind his back, "Not at all. Come on in."

Officer Dempsey walked forward and looked down for a second to watch his footing on the rocky path coming towards the house. Dr. Spencer didn't waste a second. He lifted his gun and fired. Officer Dempsey gasped and fell to the ground while Dr. Spencer put his gun in his back waistband and began dragging Officer Dempsey's bleeding body inside. He was gasping for breath after he hid the officer in an empty bedroom.

"Where the hell is McDaniels?" He picked up his phone and tried calling him. It went straight to voice mail. He walked to the kitchen and grabbed a knife and some duct tape he found under the kitchen sink. He walked back over to Eva, "It seems silly...me wanting to duct tape your hands and legs. You're in a coma for crying out loud." He left the knife and tape next to her and waited. When he heard a car pulling up, he looked out the window and was disappointed to see it wasn't Vincent McDaniels but three other people. He cursed under his breath, thinking of what to do next.

~Outside the House in the Woods~

Jacob had driven Edward and Joelynn to an old house in the woods. He was being held at gunpoint.

"Why are we coming here?" Jacob asked.

Edward shrugged. "It's sentimental to me. This is where the Demon King died."

Joelynn couldn't help herself, "You mean the other police officer that ended up being a serial killer?"

Edward laughed, "Yes. The other serial killer. My best friend, David Wilson."

"Jacob," Joelynn called out, "If we survive this...remind me that we need to move. All the cops in this town are complete psychopaths."

Edward laughed again, "Oh Joelynn, why weren't you this funny before I decided to kill you? You're not going to live past tonight."

Jacob gripped the steering wheel as he drove up towards the small house.

"What the hell?" Edward whispered, "It seems we have guests. This should be interesting."

Edward had Jacob and Joelynn step forward into the house. They all noticed a trail of blood leading inside. When Joelynn stepped inside the house, she saw her cousin.

"Eva!" Joelynn rushed forward to her cousin who was laying on the sofa.

Edward looked around, his gun drawn. He didn't see anyone. "Well she didn't get here all by herself. Someone else is here."

Eva

Eva could hear everything that was going on. She had tried opening her eyes after Dr. Spencer had left the room. She wasn't sure what was going on but she saw the knife on the sofa beside her and hid it behind her back. She closed her eyes before the new people came in the room with her. She recognized Detective Smith's voice and the hair on the back of her neck stood up. She could hear Joelynn and Jacob and kept her eyes closed. She'd have to wait for the right moment to attack.

~Meanwhile~

Edward looked around and saw an open door out of the corner of his eye. "Come on out!" Edward called out.

"Who are you?" Dr. Spencer replied.

"I'm Detective James Smith. Who are you?"

"I'm Dr. Spencer with the FBI. I'm coming out."

Dr. Spencer walked out of the room with his gun still drawn. "Detective Smith, is there a reason your weapon is still drawn?"

"I could ask you the same thing."

Joelynn and Jacob watched in fear as James Edward Smith continued talking, "It's strange that you brought a coma victim to an old crime scene. In fact it's downright suspicious."

"So is you bringing these two here. It doesn't look like they came willingly," Dr. Spencer nodded to Joelynn who appeared startled.

"Well I'd love to discuss this with you...but I don't have the time." Edward didn't hesitate as he pulled the trigger and shot Dr. Spencer in the head.

His body hit the floor and without even checking to see if Dr. Spencer was dead, Edward turned around to point his gun at Joelynn and Jacob. "Get against the wall you two. Wow isn't this my lucky day? I have Eva Lewis in my grasp again. Joelynn...did you know she's pregnant?"

Joelynn nodded.

"She's pregnant with the Demon King's child. My best friend's kid."

"Why are you doing this James? This isn't like you." Joelynn whispered. She was crying.

"Isn't like me? You don't even know me Joelynn!"

"David Wilson, the Demon King. He was my best friend. I loved him...but all he could see was her," Edward pointed his gun to Eva. "He would always talk about Eva. Even when she betrayed him and left him at the hospital to hang out with his brother Tom. He was worried about her. She didn't deserve his love!"

Edward turned away from Eva and faced Joelynn and Jacob.

"I thought we were friends James," Joelynn whispered. "You even asked me out."

He laughed, "Friends? Don't kid yourself. I only asked you out because David wanted me to. The Demon King asked me to ask you out. The problem was you and I had no chemistry. How could we? I was in love with David. I'm still in love with him. Did you know I even asked Eva out? I did that in hopes that she would give up on David...but she didn't. And then he died...he was killed all because of her. If she had just accepted him for who he was none of this would have happened. He wouldn't have been forced to bring her here and that FBI agent wouldn't have shot him! No matter how I see it...it's Eva's fault that the Demon Kign no longer exists. That David is no longer alive!"

"You expected her to accept a killer?"

"Why not? I did! I didn't find out about David being the Demon King until after he was killed but I still accepted him. If he were alive...I'd accept him right now. I even killed those whores. If only David knew how much we had in common. So I've been planning everything. I planned to kidnap Eva and kill her...but then she was pregnant. I couldn't get rid of her right away. So instead I needed to torture her."

"Edward don't do this," Jacob begged. He was hugging Joelynn.

"Poor Jacob. I didn't want to involve you in this but you were friends with Joelynn. I had to use you to scare her and I needed her to scare Eva. If anyone could help me get over David...it would be you. It's a shame that we won't have that chance." Edward lifted his gun as Joelynn began to whimper.

Eva opened her eyes. Her body felt like a ton of bricks but she willed herself to grab the knife she hid behind her back and rise. She plunged the knife into Edward's back. She wanted to scream but couldn't. She was too weak and her throat felt like it was on fire.

"Eva!" Joelynn screamed as Edward stumbled forward, dropping his gun. Joelynn rushed forward to hug Eva. It was difficult with her broken arm and Eva was weak and could barely stand.

"Let's get out of here!" Jacob shouted. The three of them headed towards the door. Joelynn and Jacob were helping Eva hobble outside with her bandaged foot. They were standing by Dr. Spencer's dead body when they heard Edward shout, "Not so fast!"

Joelynn turned around to see him aiming his gun at Eva. "Noooo," she shouted as she pushed her cousin out of the way and felt the blast of the bullet penetrate her chest. She fell to the floor as Eva and Jacob screamed. Jacob reached over to the gun that was still in Dr. Spencer's hand and aimed it at his former boyfriend. He pulled the trigger three times until he was certain Edward was dead.

"Joelynn...oh God Joelynn. Hang in there. Please don't die on me. Don't leave me Joelynn."

Joelynn looked at Eva, tears in her eyes, "Eva. I love you."

"I love you too Joelynn. Don't leave me." Eva was weeping as Jacob dialed 911.

"Jacob...I. I love...you too."

"I love you Joelynn. Listen to your cousin and hang in there. The ambulance is on the way."

Jacob and Eva held on to Joelynn. Her breathing was becoming more and more shallow. She looked at Eva and smiled, "Baby...take good care of...the baby."

Eva wiped the tears from her eyes, "You're going to have to help me Joelynn."

Joelynn slowly shook her head, "Sorry. For everything...sorry."

As the sound of sirens became closer, Eva and Jacob realized it was too late. Joelynn had taken her last breath.

~6 Months Later~

"Oh she's so cute!" a woman cried.

"She looks just like her mother," the woman's husband smiled.

He stood there holding a teddy bear dressed in a cowboy hat and boots. He still hadn't been able to give it to his grandson. Vincent watched him behind the glass as all the other parents gushed over their newborn children. He waved down a nurse and asked that the bear be given to Joey David Lewis.

As he walked away, he checked his phone. There was a text message about his sister Wanda's latest location. He thought back to when he threatened to rip out her guts if she harmed Lupita Torres. The poison found in Lupita's system had been discovered but no suspects were brought forward. It was just as well as far as Vincent was concerned. He wanted to deal with this personally. He smiled. "Wanda...I'm coming for you. I have a promise to keep."

Out of the corner of his eye, he could see his son Jacob pushing Eva Lewis in a wheelchair to look at the babies. They were both smiling.

"Jacob look how beautiful he is," Eva pointed to Joey. She was calling him JD for short as his name was Joey David Lewis. She decided to give him the middle name of David because his father wasn't always a monster and she did love a part of David.

"Yeah, he's going to be a heartbreaker like his uncle," Jacob grinned.

It had been a difficult six months. Jacob had lost his mother and best friend. Eva had lost her only living family member. They mourned together and it brought them closer together. Jacob stayed with Eva while she was pregnant, helping her during the pregnancy. She was giving birth to the only other family member either of them would have. Jacob didn't count Vincent or Wanda but Joey was different. He was blood related to Joelynn and Eva and somehow that made everything okay for Jacob to accept him as family.

Eva looked at Jacob and smiled. She really appreciated him. She knew he felt broken. He had lost the women he loved and the boyfriend he was starting to love all in one night. To top it all off, he had killed a man. He had essentially turned into one of Vincent McDaniels' murdering sons. The fact that it was in self-defense didn't matter to Jacob. In his mind, he had still taken a life. Eva noticed that he went to confession twice a week and showered twice a day. She thought he was trying to cleanse himself from that sin. She hoped the arrival of JD would give him some much needed peace.

"Jacob..." Eva whispered.

"Yeah?"

"Will you be JD's Godfather?"

She didn't turn around to look at him, but she heard him sniffle and his voice was shaky when he answered, "I...I would love that Eva. Thank you."

Eva smiled. It wasn't going to be easy but the three of them would be okay. She planned to raise her son with love and warmth. A nurse came around and picked up JD and passed him to Eva. She stared down at her bundle of joy swaddled in a soft blue blanket. "It's going to be alright Jacob."

He rested a hand on her shoulder and nodded. Without speaking a word, they both understood. With new life came new beginnings.
