Chapter 21
At Eva's House
It had been two days since David had left Eva's home and Jacob was still riled up. He didn't understand why Eva was involving herself with a man that had been known as the Demon King.
"He's not the Demon King Jacob," she had told him numerous times for the past forty-eight hours. Jacob still didn't trust him.
"He may not be the Demon King but that doesn't mean you should let JD near him," Jacob argued.
Eva sighed, "He's JD's father Jacob. Before everything with the Demon King happened, David was one of the few men I trusted. He's a good man."
"Exactly! That was before! You said it yourself Eva...he's got some secret plan against Vincent McDaniels. How could you possibly trust him?"
Eva wasn't able to give him a valid answer and Jacob let the matter drop. He knew Eva was notorious for endangering herself for her stories but he thought that had all stopped after JD was born. Now there was an awkward tension in the house as both Eva and Jacob knew they disagreed about David Wilson.
Jacob knew that talking to Eva would be useless. "I guess I'll have to handle this myself," Jacob muttered as he picked up his phone and dialed a number he didn't want to call.
Meanwhile
"Are you sure you don't mind me tagging along?" Ian asked Holly as she picked up the last few items belonging to Vincent McDaniels from the film's set.
"It's not a problem. I'm sure he'll be happy to hear from you before you leave town," Holly said softly as she looked at the small box she had in her hands. It held various travel mugs that Vincent had brought to the set and left behind.
Ian frowned, "I was surprised he didn't show up to the meeting we had two days ago."
"The director already told him about the film being cancelled."
"Was he upset?"
Holly's thin brows furled together, "I thought I told you. He was livid."
Ian chuckled, "Sorry but when I think of him yelling at you, I can't help but laugh."
"Aren't you upset too? I mean this could've been a big film for you," Holly asked.
Ian shrugged, "Even with the film being canned, I'm still getting good publicity. Fans are calling me a survivor. Plus I get to take a break before my next project."
Holly, "Well that's good then I guess."
"So what did he do when he found out?"
"Who do?"
"Vincent. What did Vincent do?" Ian was walking alongside Holly to her car.
"Well he broke things."
"Like what?"
"Why do you want to know?" Holly asked curiously.
Ian smiled, "I don't know. I'm just curious. He seems like such a good character study."
Holly didn't understand what Ian meant but she obliged him with an answer, "He broke anything he could get his hands on. I had to call his cleaning service to come fix the place up. I probably shouldn't be telling you this. It could get me fired."
"Don't worry Holly. I wouldn't tell anyone. I'm just curious. So where are we going?"
"He's at DeMarco's," Holly answered.
"Isn't that an Italian restaurant? I think I passed it my first day here."
Holly nodded, "It's pretty good. He said to meet him there so you can say goodbye."
Ian noticed Holly's voice got lower each time she mentioned him leaving. He smiled, "You know...I do have a break before my next film. I wouldn't mind spending that time here."
Holly looked at him aghast, "Why would you want to do that? There's a serial killer on the loose."
Ian laughed, "Are you worried about me?"
Holly blushed, making him laugh even more, "C'mon Holly. Let's go find Vincent. Even if I decide to stay, I probably won't see him again anyway."
They got into Holly's car and drove DeMarco's. On the way to the restaurant, Holly kept glancing over at Ian to see what he was doing. He was either texting on his cellphone or staring at her. Holly smiled. It had been a long time since anyone had made her feel special.
Thirty Minutes Later at DeMarco's: Men's Restroom
Vincent McDaniels had been late arriving to the Italian restaurant but he headed straight for the bathroom. He was about to dry his hands when his phone rang.
"Talk to me."
"Vincent?"
He grinned, "I'd recognize that voice anywhere."
"I'm only calling you because you told me to."
"Did he agree to meet you where I told you to take him?"
"Yes but he didn't want to at first. He's very suspicious," Wanda answered.
"Well most people would be suspicious of meeting at an abandoned warehouse."
"Vincent, I don't want to do this. Can't you do it yourself?"
"No I want you there."
"But he's so scary when he gets angry," Wanda pleaded.
"Did you forget how scary I can get?"
Wanda didn't reply, causing Vincent to sneer, "That's what I thought. Be there in three hours. I'll be there in four."
"Why do I have to get there so early?" Wanda asked, confused.
"Because I said so. Do you really think you have a choice?"
"Fine I'll be there."
Vincent didn't wait for her to say anything else. He disconnected the call and looked in the mirror. He was still a handsome man, even in his fifties but the lines of old age were making themselves known. He frowned as he examined the thin lines that covered his face. "Maybe I'm getting too old for this." He sighed and quickly walked out of the bathroom.
The moment Vincent walked out of the bathroom, a stall door opened and Ian Crawford stepped out. He had decided to use the restrooms while waiting for Vincent. "Abandoned warehouse?" He quickly washed his hands to find Holly.
The sound of a toilet flushing filled the men's restroom as Jacob Torres exited a bathroom stall, laughing. He washed his hands and walked over to where Vincent had agreed to meet him.
"Hello Jacob," Vincent smiled.
"Hello. I only wanted to meet so that I can ask you a question," Jacob answered.
"But we've never had a family dinner together. Your mother would approve."
Jacob's fists clenched at the mention of his mother, Lupita Torres. "Somehow I doubt that."
"Sit down Jacob. My assistant is bringing Ian Crawford to say hello later. Are you a fan? We can ask for an autograph if you like."
"No thanks."
Vincent looked up to see Ian and Holly headed in their direction, both wearing odd expressions. Ian looked like a cat that just had some cream and Holly looked nervous. Well, Holly always looked nervous around Vincent. "You two are early."
"I was hoping we can join you for dinner," Ian grinned.
"We?" Vincent asked, looking pointedly at Holly who was in turn staring at the floor. Vincent glanced at Jacob and smiled, "Why not?"
The two of them sat down and Jacob cleared his throat, "You know what. You two look like you have something important to talk about. I'll just leave you two it. I don't feel like eating anyway." Amidst Vincent's protests, Jacob stood up and looked at Ian and Vincent suspiciously before leaving.
"I should probably go too," Holly whispered.
"No, you should stay." Ian placed a hand over Holly's. She blushed and carefully removed his hand before standing up, "You both enjoy your meal."
Vincent's mouth curled up in a smile as she left. "Well it looks like it's just you and me."
"Well I know you have plans so I guess I shouldn't take up too much of your time," Ian responded.
"Plans?"
Ian shrugged, "You're a popular guy these days. Why wouldn't you have plans?"
Vincent leaned back in his chair, "What are you trying to say?"
"Not a thing," Ian stood up, "I should go after Holly. She was my ride. I'll see you around Vincent."
"I thought you were leaving town," Vincent replied.
Ian didn't respond. Instead he gave a mock salute and hurried towards the exit to try and catch Holly.
Vincent tossed his napkin on the table and frowned. His meal had been ruined.
Later that Night at an abandoned warehouse downtown
"I hate this place. It's creepy," Wanda whispered to herself. She didn't want to arrive early like Vincent had ordered. She was getting everything ready for him. He said he wanted candles everywhere. "Why would he even want candles? Is he going to propose to David or something?"
Wanda was leaning over to light a small candle when she felt a sharp pain hit the back of her head. It was the last thing she felt before hitting the ground.
Thirty minutes later, David Wilson arrived to the warehouse. He entered a backroom which was lit with small white candles. He cursed when he saw what was waiting for him.
Wanda was wearing a white dress. Her chest was soaked with blood and she wore a small crown of white flowers. Written on the wall above her were the words, "LOOK FAMILIAR DAD?"
David took a step backward and felt the hard barrel of a gun in his lower back as a familiar voice greeted him, "Hello David."
