Chapter 21

Joelynn was livid. "So he's the suspect? Creepy Artie Wilkerson?"

"How do you know him?" Officer Dempsey asked as she paced in front of Detective Smith's desk.

"He's in my therapy group. God, no wonder I've been seeing him around so much. He's probably some freaky stalker. Are they going to search his home?"

"Your therapy group?" Detective Smith asked.

"Yeah, it's for people that have been through traumatizing experiences. I knew he was strange but I honestly didn't expect this."

"Artie...Artie Wilkerson. That name sounds familiar." Detective Smith said to no one in particular.

Joelynn stopped to look at Smith who was thrumming his fingers on his desk. "Do you know him?" Joelynn echoed Officer Dempsey's question.

For a moment, he was quiet but then he spoke, "I do. I'm pretty sure I do."

"How do you know Artie Wilkerson?" Dempsey asked.

"You said he was in your group? Do you remember what traumatizing experience he went through?"

Joelynn shook her head. "No. I only ever heard him talk about his dreams."

"I used to work Special Victims before I joined homicide." Detective Smith stood up, "I'm going to see if I'm right. I'll be right back."

"What? You're leaving me?"

Detective Smith looked at Joelynn and Dempsey. He still didn't trust Dempsey. "I'll be right back Joelynn. Stay here."

"No. I want to know what you find out." Joelynn said as she followed him.

"Joelynn. For once will you just stay put? You're just like your cousin."

Joelynn raised her chin, "I'll take that as a compliment."

"Definitely like her cousin," Ellis piped in.

"Stay put," Smith said before walking back to where the interrogation room was at.

Joelynn crossed her arms in frustration, "Does he really think I'll stay like some kind of dog?"

Dempsey just chuckled causing Joelynn to roll her eyes and head in the same direction as Smith.

Outside the Interrogation Room

"I want to take my son home now!" Wanda was shouting.

"Such a concerned parent...all of a sudden." Vincent McDaniels muttered under his breath but loud enough for Wanda to hear him. She glared at him before putting her arm around Artie.

"Artie, you aren't under arrest. You don't have to stay here. You haven't done anything wrong honey." Wanda said.

Agent Sally Roux and Dr. Spencer were watching the scene play out.

Detective Smith stepped in the area quietly and unnoticed. He didn't see Joelynn or Officer Dempsey right behind him.

"My son is a sweet boy! He would never be connected to some murderer. Never!" Wanda's outcries were falling on deaf ears.

Special Agent Donald Ferguson looked at Artie and Wanda. "Look lady, the only reason he isn't under arrest right now is because we're still waiting for the warrant to be signed so we can search his home and find any other evidence against him. Even if he's not connected to the Deadly Disciple, he's still some kind of perverted stalker."

"Perverted stalker?" Wanda was almost growling because she was so upset.

"I'm not sure what else to call a grown man that keeps hundreds of pictures of two women in his apartment."

"My son wouldn't do that! They're probably his friends."

Agent Ferguson laughed and shook his head. As he did so, he spotted Joelynn Lewis, "Well what do you know? There's one of his friends now."

Sally turned to the direction her partner's stare was facing. "What the hell is she doing here again? What kind of police station is this?"

"What do you mean one of his friends?" Joelynn asked.

Detective Smith turned to see Joelynn and Dempsey behind him. He cursed under his breath and whispered, "Great job asshole," to Dempsey who just shrugged.

"Is someone gonna answer me? Why would I be his friend?"

Agent Ferguson looked at Wanda and Artie as Joelynn stepped forward. Sally was about to stop Joelynn when Dr. Spencer put a hand on her shoulder and shook his head to let things play out. She gave him a confused look but stayed back.

"What's your name again?" Ferguson asked Joelynn.

"Joelynn."

"Joelynn do you have pictures of your friends at your house?"

She looked confused but answered, "Only if I'm with them in the picture."

"Would you think it's odd to have over a hundred pictures of one of your friends posted to your wall?"

"Stop," Artie said in a small voice that sounded like a whisper.

"Hundreds of pictures? No, I don't even have a hundred pictures of myself," Joelynn answered.

"What about pictures of someone you look up to like a singer or a TV star?"

"Stop," Artie whispered again.

Joelynn answered, "No. I'm too old for that."

"Joelynn, how long have you and Artie here been friends?"

"What?" Joelynn asked.

"Stop! Stop it! Stop!" Artie was yelling and covering his ears with his hands. Wanda was trying to comfort him but he ignored her.

Joelynn gave him a disgusted look. "Friends with him? I don't even know him. If he has my cousin Eva I want him to tell us where she's at. I'm not friends with him."

Wanda gave Joelynn a disappointed look as Ferguson said, "You hear that?"

"That's enough Ferguson," Sally stepped forward and shrugged off Dr. Spencer's hand.

Ferguson ignored her, "They're not friends. So why does he have hundreds of pictures of Joelynn and Eva Lewis?"

"What?" It finally dawned on Joelynn what the FBI agent was saying. "Artie has pictures of me and Eva in his house?"

"Agent Ferguson!" Sally shouted.

"You're such a sicko...you know that Artie? I used to feel sorry for you but now you disgust me. Where's Eva?"

Artie was still covering his ears...but he could hear everything. He didn't know how to react. This was like a nightmare to him. The woman he admired, Joelynn Lewis, was calling him a sick freak. She found out about his picture collection and she saw that he had pissed himself. If the Earth could eat him, he would gladly offer himself up. As she continued to look at him with disgust, a familiar feeling welled up inside of him, aching for release.

"I disgust you?" Artie whispered. "I'm a sicko?" His voice became louder as he looked at Joelynn who was startled by his outburst. "You don't know me Joelynn! You don't know a damned thing about me!"

The anger in Artie was consuming him. He hated feeling weak and being thought of as some kind of loser by Joelynn. If she wouldn't like him then she would fear him. He'd make her fear him.

"Do you want to know where your precious cousin is at?"

Everyone became quiet.

"Artie...do you have my cousin?"

"Oh so now I'm Artie? Not some sicko?"

"Artie...tell us where Eva is at."

"Screw you Joelynn. You think you're some kind of saint? I saw you with Trixie that night. I watched you. You're a whore."

"Artie where's Eva?" Joelynn ignored his last comment.

"Why should I tell you?"

Vincent McDaniels had been quiet throughout the conversation but now he was intrigued. "Why Artie...there's more to you than I thought," he whispered.

"Artie what are you saying honey? Do you know where this girl's cousin is?" Wanda asked.

Artie looked at his mother who never paid attention to him. "Why are you still here?" he asked her.

She looked taken aback and then a little ashamed, "Because you're my son."

"Did you just remember that today?" Artie asked her as he removed her arms from his shoulders.

He looked at Joelynn who was finally looking at him. Really looking at him.

"You want to know where your cousin is at...but I don't want to tell you."

"Artie please," Joelynn was about to start crying and Artie loved it. He loved being able to have something over her.

"That's enough!" Sally Roux stepped forward. "Detective Smith, get her out of here. Ferguson..." Sally looked at her partner who was smirking. No one was listening to her and she was pissed.

"Are you the Deadly Disciple?" Joelynn asked.

Artie started to make a sound that was a cross between a cough and twisted laughter, "The Deadly Disciple? No. I'm not the Deadly Disciple."

"Then why are you acting like you know where Eva is at?" Joelynn asked him.

"I'm not the Deadly Disciple," Artie said and looked around at the other people in the room before saying, "But I know who he is."

"Stop playing around kid," Vincent McDaniels said.

"I'm not a kid!" Artie turned on his uncle. "I'm not the Deadly Disciple but I do know who he is."

"And how do you know his identity?" Vincent asked him.

"Worried?" Sally asked Vincent.

Vincent shook his head and laughed. "He doesn't know anything. How could he? He's just a kid that stays home too much, living in his own fantasy world. Let's go Wanda. Artie you too. You're not under arrest so we can leave."

"Not so fast McDaniels. If he's making some sort of admission, you can bet your ass he'll be under arrest soon." Agent Ferguson said.

"You hear that Artie?" Vincent asked, "That's enough so keep your mouth shut."

Artie laughed, "I'll do as I please...uncle."

Agent Ferguson looked at Agent Sally Roux who was scowling.

"The Deadly Disciple...he loved the Demon King. He wants to get revenge on Eva Lewis because he thinks it's her fault he was shot. If only you knew who he truly was. He could be anybody. Even the person standing next to you."

"Artie! I said that's enough," Vincent grabbed ahold of Artie's arm but Artie shrugged him off.

"Hey Joelynn," Artie said turning to her. "You should be careful because he's after you next bitch...so watch what you say to me or I'll make sure he kills you when you least expect it!"

"Artie!" Wanda couldn't believe her son was saying such things.

Sally who had been quiet finally spoke up again, "Why would you say that Artie? How could you possibly know that?"

"How could I know that?" Artie asked. "Of course I would know what he's up to. I'm his partner."
