chapter twelve
Wanda's POV
Plane of Nonexistence
This place puts the Reality Stone to shame in terms of trippy-ness. When the team and I landed here, we weren't sure which way was up or how we were breathing in the vacuum of space. But I guess the laws of reality don't apply here, considering this place exists outside of existence.
My friends and I were about to wander aimlessly when we heard the distinct sound of crackling lightning and Klarion's screeches not too far away. I led the charge in what I hoped to be the right direction.
We came upon the horrific sight of Klarion, his clothes ripped, burned, and bloody from months of endless torture. But worse than the sight of the battered Klarion was Billy.
His eyes had a crazed look to them, wide and unblinking as he zapped Klarion over and over. His mouth curled up into a twisted grin, the pleasure he was getting from the torture evident on his face. But his laugh, oh his laugh sent shivers down my spine. It reminded me of the glee I felt in murdering Ra's Al Ghul.
A manic, evil kind of joy.
I looked over at my friends to see how they were taking the sight of this Billy and felt a pull in my heart when I saw how utterly destroyed Tim and Tommy were.
With renewed determination to set things right, I looked back at Billy and Klarion, weighing my options in my head. Before I could do anything, I needed to find out how far gone Billy was. So I did the only logical thing to do in such a situation.
I stepped between predator and prey.
I felt the nerves of my team spike as Billy halted his assault eyes moving from Klarion to me. A slimy smirk spread across his face. "Ah, Wanda. How nice of you to finally join us."
For once in my life, I actually felt a little nervous. "Billy listen to me, this isn't you. We've come to take you home, before its too late."
"Sorry, Wanda, but that ship has sailed." He snickered. I shivered. "This is me, accepting who I've always been meant to be. The Demiurge."
"The Demiurge is about love and creation, not hate and destruction." Billy's eyes flicker to Tim and for a second I think I am getting through to him. "Billy, come home. This doesn't have to be you."
Billy screws his eyes shut, scrunching his face up as he covers his ears. "No! You made me this way! You left me here with him! Get out of my head!"
Billy exploded outwards with a concussive force of energy, blowing the team and me backwards. I flung a psionic shield up, protecting us from the brunt of the damage.
I grit my teeth, knowing I was taking a big risk with what I was about to do. But I owed it to Billy. To everyone I had hurt.
Summoning the scarlet energies once more, I flew towards Billy and gripped his hands in mine, staring him directly in the eye as I uttered what may very well be my last spell. Let's hope this works.
"Billy Kaplan is free. No more Demiurge."
Billy's POV
As soon as Wanda spoke those words, I felt it. It felt like my soul was on fire, as if someone took red hot tongs and was peeling my soul in two.
I let out a guttural screech, trying to pull my hands free from Wanda's iron clad grip. She held tight, even as blood poured from her nose and I could tell all she wanted to do was collapse. I tried to use my powers to heal myself, only for Wanda to tighten her grip and for the pain to intensify. I watched the scarlet energy flow into my body in waves from where our hands met, eliciting another screech from me.
"Wanda, stop! You're going to kill yourself and him!" A muffled voice cried out, sounding a lot like Tim.
That's when I felt the snap inside my soul.
Both Wanda and I collapsed as the very essence of the Demiurge left my body, leaving me weak and trembling. I looked upwards to see a blue spiritual form of myself floating above me. I glanced over at Wanda to see her completely out but luckily still breathing.
My gaze turned back to the Demiurge as he scanned my friends with his eyes. His burning stare landed on me and I shuddered. He smirked. "Billy Kaplan, you have been a gracious host, but now I am free. So, I no longer have a use for you. Goodbye."
He waved his hand at me and I felt myself start to disintegrate.
No.
I grit my teeth, flinging my hands up at the Demiurge and shooting ice at him.
He merely swatted it away with a humorless chuckle. "Pathetic magic user. We could've done so much together if you had just submitted to what Wanda had made us into."
Wanda! That's it!
I reached over and grabbed Wanda's hand in mine. I focused on borrowing her magical energy for just a moment, turning to the Demiurge with violet eyes as our magic mingled. Using my free hand, I shot him with everything I had, chanting my intentions in my head so he could not stop me.
The Demiurge no longer exists in any shape or form, on any plane of existence.
The Demiurge cried out in pain as I kept hitting him with a mix of mine and Wanda's powers. After a moment, he exploded in a blinding violet light.
I looked over at my friends, smiling despite the raging headache I now had. My eyes light up once more as I called upon Wanda's magic again. "Now, what do you say we go home?"
