I Meet the Goddess of Drama...kinda
This is a sequel to my Demigods in High School fanfiction from a few years ago. For continuity, I am keeping OCs in this story (no matter how cringey they were). I am also only basing this series on PJO/HoO because I have not read Magnus Chase or the Trials of Apollo. I know those books change a lot (including who are and are not alive), but I am kinda ignoring them. Please don't spoil them in the comments or point out inconsistencies between canon (after HoO) and my fanfics. Another note: I am really busy with school, so I may not update consistently. I am also in college now, so my writing style has changed! Thank you all for taking the time to read my (slightly crazed) writing! <3
Disclaimer: I am not Rick Riordan. I do not own Percy Jackson and the Olympians (PJO), the Heroes of Olympus (HoO), or any of the characters or events from those books. The artwork is by emmilinne on Tumblr. All other ideas in this are mine and can not be copied or reposted without permission and proper credit.
One last note: Covid-19 is not a thing in this fanfiction. I want to get to live vicariously through them since my college experience has been whack.
Annabeth
Annabeth readjusted her bag as she ran up the stairs. It was her first class of the day, her first day to be exact, and she was running late. It wasn't her fault. Okay, it was, but she had a good reason; she had been up all night helping Reyna plan temple repairs. The two of them had been working together almost nonstop since the end of the war to repair and improve the two camps. They had made a lot of progress, but they often lost track of time and stayed up way too late. That hadn't gotten any better since the two of them decided to become roommates. She was so tired that she overslept all but her third and final alarm that morning. She hoped her professor would chalk in up to her being lost and excuse her.
She quietly slipped in through the door and looked for an empty seat. The only seat left was in the front row. Normally she would be fine with that, but today all she wanted to do was go unnoticed. She reluctantly took a seat in the front.
The professor glanced up. "We are on page two of the syllabus." She gave Annabeth a quick smile before looking back down at the syllabus.
The rest of the class went by smoothly enough. They finished going over the syllabus and then moved onto introductions. They had to state their name, weapon of choice, and favorite architectural site. The fifty-minute class was over too fast in Annabeth's opinion; she had never been around so many people with the same passion as her. She stood up reluctantly after the professor dismissed the class.
Before she could leave the professor called out to her. "Ms. Chase?"
Annabeth froze and turned back to her professor. Here she was thinking she got away with being late. "Yes, Dr. Durchville?"
Dr. Durchville's dark eyes shone as Annabeth spoke. "You wouldn't happen to be the same Annabeth Chase who rebuilt Olympus after the Battle of Manhattan, would you?"
Annabeth smiled and felt herself blush a little. "Yes, that was me."
"I am so pleased to have such a talented young woman in my class!" Her professor smiled and shook her head, her tight, gray curls bouncing slightly. "How did you do that without any courses?"
"I've been studying architecture for as long as I can remember...and I guessed a lot," Annabeth looked down sheepishly.
Dr. Durchville chuckled, "I look forward to working with you Ms. Chase."
"Thank you, Dr. Durchville," Annabeth said. "I'm really looking forward to learning from you." She waved goodbye as she left the room.
As soon as Annabeth had left the room, she was approached by a girl with bright green eyes and dark brown hair. She recognized her as the girl that had sat a few seats away from her in class.
"Late on the first day?' The girl had what Annabeth could only describe as a sneer as she spoke. "Not a very good way to start your first day; and to be called out by the professor? How embarrassing..."
"Okay, so we're starting with that," Annabeth muttered before speaking up. "We were actually discussing architecture. Dr. Durchville didn't even bring up the fact that I was late."
The girl rolled her eyes. "Sure she didn't. Why would she want to talk to you about architecture?" Annabeth was starting to decide she did not like this girl. The way she had said 'you' as though Annabeth was somehow worth less than her really irked her.
"We were discussing some of my previous work," Annabeth stated matter of factly. "Who are you to question me anyways?"
"You don't recognize me?" The girl asked incredulously. "Figures. I'm Genevieve Avington. My daddy is the University President."
Annabeth sighed. She thought she had escaped these childish girls when she graduated high school. "I really don't care who your dad is. Just leave me alone, okay?" Annabeth picked up her bag to leave, but Genevieve stepped in her way.
"You should care! I can get you kicked out of the school!" Genevieve stopped for a second as though in thought. "I could have you banished from New Rome! My mother has been in the Senate longer than anyone. I've even been friends with Reyna, the praetor, since we were kids; we were in the same cohort."
"Okay, and?" Annabeth asked, getting frustrated. "If we are going to start name dropping, I'm friends with the praetors too. Reyna is my best friend, we're even roommates. I was also on a quest with Frank for months."
"Stop lying! Who are you a child of Janus?" Genevieve snapped.
"Athena actually," Annabeth replied.
"So you're one of those dirty Greek transfers?" Genevieve rolled her eyes. "No wonder you're such a liar!"
Annabeth was beyond mad at that, but she really didn't want to start a fight on her first day. She shoved past her and walked out of the building.
As she walked out, she heard Genevieve call after her. "Sit in the back next time! I don't want to see the face of a dirty oathbreaker again!"
Annabeth vowed she would never sit in the back of a class again.
Percy
Percy woke up at 10:00. His first class doesn't start until noon, but he wanted to get food with Annabeth before then. He wasn't too excited about his class, it was composition so he knew he would struggle, but Annabeth and Reyna would be there, so it would be okay. He slowly got dressed, being careful not to wake up his roommate, Max.
Max was a large kid who snored deeply when he slept. Percy didn't mind, it reminded him of Tyson. He usually wore a silk cap while he slept, he said it was to protect his hair, but he had managed to shake it off as he slept. He was currently laying the wrong way; one foot on his pillow and one on the wall. His head dangled off the edge of the bed. Max was an English major, why anyone would choose to read for the rest of their life Percy did not know. He wanted to be a professor like his parents someday. The two of them had hit it off immediately and were already good friends. Percy contemplated waking Max up to join them but decided to let him sleep in.
After he got dressed, Percy slowly made his way to Annabeth's class. By now she had already had three classes, so he was sure she'd be tired and in desperate need of some olive pizza. As he walked towards the class, he saw a stream of students leaving. When he saw curly blond hair in the crowd, he couldn't help but smile.
"Hey Wise Girl," he grinned as he wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "How's your day going?"
Annabeth leaned deeply into his side. "I need pizza. Now."
"That bad, huh?" Percy joked. When Annabeth didn't respond he looked down. Her gray eyes were dark as a storm cloud; she was mad. "What happened? Are you okay?"
Annabeth shrugged. "A girl in my architecture classes decided she doesn't like me and is determined to make my life hell. There's also this guy in my physics class who decided he needed to explain everything to me after I had already correctly answered. Not to mention when it gets brought up that my mother is Athena, half the class decide I'm the daughter of an oathbreaker."
Percy felt himself frowning as she spoke. He stopped their walk and pulled her into a tight hug. "Sounds like you need pizza and milkshakes."
Annabeth smiled faintly. "Happy's?"
"Where else?" Percy replied
At that Annabeth smiled. "I'll text Reyna to let her know."
"Come on, Wise Girl."
"I'm following you, Seaweed Brain."
