14 ~ Dead Rising
Leo's POV
I reached the entrance of the Gryffindor common room just as Harry dashed out of view. I gave Piper a helpless look, but she just sighed and motioned for me to close the door.
I did, and joined everyone for an emergency meeting.
Laughing in delight, Drew slipped on the stolen Invisibility Cloak and disappeared. She reappeared in front of me, "Wicked!"
"Are there anyone else in here?" Jason asked, scanning the surroundings.
Just then, one of the armchairs got knocked over with a BANG! It was followed by redheaded yelping, and a shush. Then the large door opened again, and footsteps echoed outside.
Jason rolled his eyes, "That answers my question."
"How long were they there?" Frank asked worriedly, looking like he was about to morph into a panda.
"Not that long," Nico guessed, "I think they arrived when Thalia told me to...me to..."
"Be a table," Thalia finished for him.
Nico nodded glumly, "Drew, can I see that cloak for a second?"
"Oh alright," Drew tossed him the glittery fabric.
The death child held up the cloak and examined it, "I knew it felt familiar. I think this belongs to Thanatos. He's been complaining for centuries about giving it to some mortal named Peverell."
"Pebble who?" I asked.
Before he could answer, Annabeth and Percy casually came down from the stairs.
Percy eyed the overturned armchair, then Thalia using Nico's back as a table, "We missed something, didn't we?"
"Yeah," Jason said, "the Golden Trio were spying on us invisibly."
"No, there were four people," I said, "I think Ginny was with them."
"And?" Annabeth asked, gray eyes flashing. "What happened?"
"They ran out," Piper explained, "Drew got Harry's cloak though."
"It's Death's cloak, Harry got it somehow," Nico said.
"What's so great about that cloak?" Percy asked, "I mean, besides that it's Death's."
"It can make you invisible," Nico explained, "can I get up...yerhighness?"
"Yeah," she got up, giving him space.
Nico put the cloak around him, "See?"
"Cool, it's like your cap, Annabeth, but that can fit more people."
Annabeth snorted, probably imagining all of them jamming themselves under her Yankees cap. Then she abruptly went serious. "How much did they hear?"
"Nothing important," Frank assured her.
"Actually," I raised my hand, "they may have seen the message on my phone that said that there was a mortal nearby."
"Mortal?" Annabeth asked, "Not Muggle?"
"Nope, mortal," I said.
"Well, whoever saw it probably wouldn't remember that exact wording."
"Hope so," I hoped.
"They have to stop snooping!" Drew kicked the overturned armchair, and it moved one foot, then turned on it's side.
"Maybe we should just tell them," I suggested, "they'll figure it out eventually anyway."
Annabeth shook her head. "That does make sense, but the reason we're undercover is so that word doesn't get out to Voldemort that there are demigods here training the wizards. I'm pretty sure he hasn't risen yet — Nico would know — but Rachel had a vision that he will, and he will have a ton of Greek monsters and Death Eaters at his side. If he finds out we're here, he'll send more monsters here, and more students will get hurt. Someone's letting the monsters in. I'm sure Hogsmeade had precautions too, yet a whole batch of monsters show up there. And someone resurrected the Basilisk, took it out of the Chamber of Secrets and let it into the Gryffindor common room. And don't forget, Voldemort can see Harry's mind. Telling him would be a bad move."
"So people can just let Death Eaters in?" Hazel asked.
Annabeth shook her head, "Only monsters. Greek ones. The defense spells are mostly only for Dark Magic."
"Then what do we do when they find out?" I asked.
"Make them think that they're crazy?" Percy suggested.
"Yeah, I guess," Annabeth shrugged.
"Oh and by the way," Drew spoke up, "I heard Ron and Harry whispering about seeing Nico having the Dark Mark on his arm. That's a sort of a tattoo that means you've become a Death Eater."
Percy checked his own SPQR mark. It didn't look like a Death Eater mark, but I suppose it could at a distance. Percy shrugged, "Well, if they keep thinking that we're Death Eaters, they'll keep getting farther and farther away from the truth."
"Hm," Annabeth said, not buying it. "Them thinking that will not get us on their side."
"Guys," Drew said suddenly. "Change of subject, but I've wanted to bring it up since I came here." She bit her lip, suddenly looking very different, like she'd eaten something rotten. "Eliza's body disappeared from the infirmary last night."
"How?" Jason asked, astonished. "What happened?"
Drew shrugged helplessly, "I don't know. She disappeared overnight. I asked Madam Pomfrey, but she hasn't seen anyone go near Eliza's bed. And Dumbledore says that the defence spells on the school are fine and haven't been disturbed."
"So it was someone at Hogwarts," Piper concluded.
"It should be," Drew agreed, "if someone let a monster in, Dumbledore would know."
"It's gotta be Malfoy," Percy said, "right?"
"It's likely," Annabeth said, "but Malfoy isn't the only one who used to work with Voldemort, or does Dark Magic. It could be anyone."
Silence.
"So..." I broke the silence, "What now?"
"Hey, let's swim in the lake!" Percy squealed, "I haven't played in the water for ages."
"I heard you in the baths last night," Jason said, "you were singing Under the Sea, and splashing a lot."
Percy blushed, "Wh-what?"
Annabeth blinked, "We were talking about Eliza's body going missing, and now we're swimming in the lake?"
"Come on!" we ran out the door.
Annabeth didn't come though, "Don't you guys have homework?!"
"Of course we do!" I shouted back.
Annabeth sighed, and followed us. Drew went to find Claire so that she could join us.
At the lake, we changed into bathing suits, but of course Percy didn't have to, and just jumped straight into the lake and dove deep down.
He came up a few minutes later, "There's a giant squid down there! He says his name is Simon!" He giggled.
"Hey!" someone yelled.
I turned, guess who it was? Yep, the one and only, Golden Trio.
"You know the lake is very dangerous," Hermione said, "it's probably not clean enough to swim in, and there's a giant squid in there. You could drown, and-"
"Yeah we get it!" Thalia yelled at her.
Hermione looked offended, "Seriously, you shouldn't be swimming there."
"Yeah!" Ron butted in, "You guys shouldn't even be at Hogwarts! Some of you anyway! Nico is a Death Eater! He has the Dark Mark right on his right arm! It's-"
"—not the Dark Mark," Drew finished for him.
"You're just sticking up for him because—"
"—it's not the Dark Mark."
"No, I'm sure it's—"
"—not the Dark Mark."
"Will you stop—"
"—telling the truth?"
"Where's Percy?" Hermione asked.
"Ohh," we looked around. He must have gone down to give autographs to the fishes or something.
"Around," Nico said, "down there I think."
I started splashing, hoping Percy would get the message and come up now before he comes up 10 minutes later in front of the trio.
Everyone else caught on and started splashing too.
Percy's head bobbed to the surface, "You guys are having a water fight without me??!"
"Yes!" Connor and Travis splashed him. And soon the air was so full of water nobody could see anything. It was all a flurry of white.
I even put on some goggles to protect my eyes.
Soon the steam went down, and everyone was loaded with water guns (Conjured) and shooting everyone.
I wasn't sure when the Golden Trio left, I wasn't really paying attention to anything, just shooting anything that moves.
Harry's POV
When we left the lake, we could still hear the exchange students, Drew, and Claire screaming and splashing.
"Hey," Ron said, "Ginny just told me, before we followed the exchange students. Malfoy and Parkinson are in the infirmary."
Before I could ask why, I doubled over, my scar searing with pain.
"It's hurting isn't it?" Hermione demanded, urgently touching my shoulder. Ron ushered me into a seating position so I wouldn't fall over.
"Obviously," I groaned, putting my hand on my scar. I was suddenly thrown into someone else's mind.
I was rising out of the ground with someone laughing gleefully somewhere in front of me. I was laughing too, and looking at my ivory-like hands.
"My Lord!" someone threw herself at my feet, I realized who it was, Bellatrix Lestrange (Pretend Molly never killed her and she's on the run from Aurors for the sake of the story okay?)
"My loyal Bellatrix," I hissed, my voice even more like a snake's, "how?"
"A soul for a soul my lord," she explained, "I learned it from a ghost. I resurrected your basilisk as a test, and killed a student. I used that girl's soul to bring you back to the living."
"Why, Bellatrix, you shall be greatly rewarded for your services once I regain my full power." I still felt a bit weak, but I was certainly getting stronger. Power...I craved it immensely. And this new knowledge that Lestrange has given me means that I would truly be...immortal.
I knew all along that I was worthy.
"Thank you my lord!" she gasped. "Draco," she continued, "he told me of some students, americans, teaching the other students physical combat. They do magic really well, and fight really good too. He says that they know Dark Arts. One of them made fire appear in his hands, and burned him."
"Interesting..."
I was pushed back into my own mind again.
"Harry, are you alright?" Ron asked, shaking me. "Do you need to see Madam Pomfrey?"
"You passed out," Hermione said worriedly.
"I'm fine," I got up off the floor, and Ron steadied me as I nearly tipped over. "Voldemort, he's definitely back. For sure."
"How?" she gasped. "The Resurrection Stone? But that doesn't bring—"
"No, Bellatrix brought him back with something else. Something about a soul for a soul."
"What is that?" Ron asked, turning to Hermione, but she could only shake her head, saying she didn't know.
I gestured earnestly, "She said she brought the Basilisk back as a test, and it killed Eliza Bellatrix used Eliza's soul to bring Voldemort back. And I think we were wrong about the exchange students. Bellatrix didn't know about them, she learned about them from Draco. Voldemort didn't know either..."
"See?" Hermione said exasperated, "They aren't Death Eaters, but they're definitely not normal."
"And she said Leo set his hands on fire and burned Malfoy. Wandless."
"I saw him do it before," Hermione said, "he made a ball of fire and set Percy's shirt on fire. I thought I was seeing things. There's something different about them, and I'm going to get to the bottom of it."
Leo's POV
When we got back, we had completely missed lunch. So we ate the awesome tacos I cooked up.
We were just chilling in the armchairs munching on tacos. Claire had left to do homework and finish the rest of some book she was writing, taking her taco with her.
Then the common door room burst open, and someone with curly brown hair and wearing white hospital sheets came in. She leaned against the door, gasping for breath.
"Eliza?" Drew gasped, rushing for her. "What..."
"Need...to...hide..." she gasped. She stumbled up the stairs of our dormitory, and slammed the door after herself.
The common room door got knocked down. Like, literally knocked down.
"Where is she?" a skull-masked figure asked. I nearly laughed upon seeing him. The dude didn't need a mask — everyone knew it was Malfoy.
"Um," Seamus said, "where's who?" Then Greek monsters stepped into the room.
"Doesn't matter," someone said. It was a Cyclops. A ton of them were there. Some empousai too.
"She will do," the Cyclops pointed at Drew.
An empousa grabbed her arm.
"Hey!" she snapped, and punched the empousa's nose. When the empousa let go, Drew dug her razor sharp nails into her arm, and kicked her in the stomach. The empousa staggered, cursing in another language. Drew brought her left leg around and kicked her where the kidneys usually are.
"BOO YAH!" Drew shrieked. She took the Invisibility Cloak out of her bag and wrapped herself in it. I sensed her going out the door.
"Homenum Revelio!" Malfoy cried. "Someone's in that room!" He pointed at the door Eliza went in.
"We can take 'em," I said optimistically.
I threw screwdrivers at all the monsters, and the ones that got close I smashed them with my hammer.
Piper yelled at all the students to get out of the room, Annabeth used her drakon bone sword, and so on.
We defeated them all in like, thirty seconds. It was almost pathetic.
"They wanted to take Drew or Eliza," I said, angry.
"Why?" Annabeth pressed her sword against Malfoy's throat.
"I...I don't know! Really!" Malfoy looked cross-eyed at her sword, then back at her. "Aunt Bella just wanted me to do it! Please don't kill me!" He looked like he was going to pee his pants right there.
"Obliviate!" Annabeth pushed him out the door, and Repaired it. "He won't remember anything of the last two hours."
Drew appeared, and ran up the stairs to our dorm. We followed.
"Eliza?" Drew called anxiously. "Are you alright?"
"Are they gone?" Eliza peeked over a bed.
Drew ran to her side, "Yes, what happened?"
Eliza covered her eyes. "I-I'm not sure, was I...dead? I saw yellow eyes, and I just..."
"Yes," Hazel said gently, "you were, any idea how you came back?"
"No, but I was...standing with a lot of ghosts, and there was a man asking for a coin. But I didn't have any. He told me to sit down. So I did, but suddenly I just wasn't there anymore. I just woke up tied to a chair in Malfoy Manor." She had calmed down by now, "They tried to get information about you guys, they wanted to know your weaknesses and who you really are. I told them I don't know, they told me to guess, but I wouldn't."
She rubbed her nose, "They used the Cruciatus Curse on me. I passed out after a while. I woke up still on the chair. I managed to get out of the ropes, but I couldn't Apparate out, so I tried to open the door, but it was locked. I used some pieces of wood from the chair to pick the lock. Once I got out of the dungeon, I Apparated to Hogsmeade Station. I got into a chariot, and it brought me to Hogwarts, and I saw Narcissa and Lucius right behind my chariot, so I made a Shield Charm. I ran all the way here. They couldn't get in. And there's something else, Voldemort is back."
She looked at us like that information might send us running, which didn't make sense. Drew had explained to her who we were.
"Anything...else?" Annabeth asked.
"Voldemorts back," she repeated.
"Don't you remember who we are?"
She looked confused, "Of course I do..."
"Who's Percy's father?" Annabeth asked.
"I don't know, he never told me."
"Eliza, Percy told you — we all told you — who our godly parents were."
"Godly?"
"Let me try something," Piper said, "Eliza, you will remember what you have forgotten."
"I...still don't know who Percy's father is."
"Okay I'll try again. You will remember what you have forgotten." She said it more forcefully this time.
She blinked, "Poseidon. Your parents are gods."
"Yes, anything else you remember now? If someone erased your memory, you probably know something vital."
She looked like she was going to cry, "Malfoy, he used the Imperius Curse on me, and told me what to say to open the Chamber of Secrets. I also saw...I also heard Zacharias Smith, the Hufflepuff, saying something like, "I, Eliza Skull, give permission for Cyclops and empousai to enter Hogwarts."
Annabeth nodded, "So that's why Dumbledore kept staring at you at you during breakfast the day you um, died. So, the Death Eaters and Voldemort know we're here right? And they know Greek Mythology is real. And that the wizards are being trained."
"Yep."
"Then I don't think we need to be undercover anymore."
