Ch - 10 The Truth
(EDITED)
"Umm... just thought you would like to know, we have a month of summer vacations, not the whole year."
The class laughed and snickered as Mrs Bran smiled at Percy.
"I could make it for two years, dear."
Percy sat down with a sigh while Char just shook her head and tried to suppress her smile.
If it had been any other teacher, Percy would have got double detention but fortunately for him, Mrs Bran was pretty easy going.
"This isn't fair", Percy whinnied, as the three of them walked down the hall at the end of the day.
Char laughed.
"I know", she said.
" Teachers think that we get vacations to study."
"I swear I haven't got this much holiday homework in my whole life!" Percy complained.
"Relax Perce", Nico said.
"We'll figure a way out."
Char and Percy had just collected Nico from detention, after their last swimming classes before the vacations. Apparently some bullies had tried to make fun Nico. Needless to say, they weren't very lucky but Nico had also received an hour long detention. By now the school was almost empty.
" Besides, you probably wouldn't be doing any of it", Nico added.
"Why?" Char asked, surprised.
"Uh..." Percy mumbled.
How could he tell Char that Annabeth had finally finished redesigning Mount Olympus and now they could go to college so he wouldn't be coming back.
"I'm not coming back after the summer holidays", Percy muttered.
" What!" Char cried.
"I have to visit my dad, I mean my dad from whom mom got divorced for umm a long time so he will be sending me to a school there", Percy finished lamely.
"Oh", Char said, unable to hide the disappointment on her face.
"What about you, Nico?"
Nico merely shrugged.
"I guess I'll stay."
"I guess!" Char said shrilly.
"You guys are ditching me!"
Percy mentally sighed. He hadn't been looking forward to this conversation. While Char was an amazing person and their best friend, she couldn't come to Camp-Half Blood and would be left alone in highschool.
"I'll miss you", Percy said, honestly failing to think of anything to comfort her.
Char just managed a weak smile and suddenly stopped in her tracks.
"Damn! I forgot to return my book to the librarian", she cursed.
"You two, wait here. I'll be back in a jiffy."
With that she raced towards the other end of the corridor, leaving Nico and Percy behind.
"That didn't go too well", Nico said.
"I know", Percy squirmed.
"I wish she could come to camp with us."
"Yeah."
And then there was an awkward silence as the two waited for Char, thinking of something to console her.
"Hello there", a voice rang out.
Percy saw a woman in her mid - 30's with green eyes and pale blonde hair. She wore a dull green leather-jacket and black jeans.
"Umm hi?" Nico said.
"I wanted to apply for an English teacher", the lady declared.
Percy frowned. Their English teacher was going? She was quite young so she was definitely not retiring. Plus, this woman had a weird accent that Percy couldn't exactly pinpoint.
"If you boys could show me to the principal's office..."
Nico looked toward Percy, who shrugged. It wouldn't take much time.
"Sure."
"Excellent", the woman replied, with a gleam in her eyes. She really was eager to take up her new job.
"Well it's just around the corner from here", Percy instructed, as they walked the lady around the corridor, but she had stopped and had a distant expression on her face.
She inhaled sharply and smiled.
"Um... maam?" Nico spoke.
"The principal's office is this way."
"Ah but I feel ravished. I really should have a small snack before", the woman said.
"Actually... the cafeteria is closed", Percy said, a little taken aback.
"Oh don't worry dears", she hissed.
"The two of you will do."
In a flash her neck and legs elongated and her skin turned green.
"For the love of the Gods!" Percy moaned, uncapping Riptide.
Nico took out his sword and they eyed the two headed serpent in front of them.
"Turns out I could make out her 'snake accent'", Percy mumbled.
Nico snorted.
"Alas she wouldn't be able to use it anymore."
With that the two of them charged from both the sides, slashing their swords. But as it turned out, they had a slippery problem. They couldn't reach the monster's head to cut it off and it was as slippery as an eel and slipped out of their grip if they tried climbing it.
"This will get us nowhere", Nico said, grinding his teeth as he kept shadow-travelling.
"I've got an idea", Percy yelled.
Nico let out a groan.
"It's a perfectly good one!" Percy insisted as Nico dodged the serpent's tail.
"Just distract it!"
Nico just grunted in response.
"Hey!" he yelled, flailing his arms, to catch it's attention..
The serpent hissed and one head attacked at him but Nico merely shadow-traveled a few metres to the right.
"Missed me!" he taunted.
He kept this up for sometime but he was getting exhausted. Where in Hades was Percy?
And then he saw him. Like surfing on a huge wave, he rose from behind the reptile. Woah, it was a huge wave, even for Percy. He must have destroyed the school's plumbing system or ruined the water coolers. In his awe Nico had totally forgotten about the monster. It's tail landed squarely on his chest and Nico went flying and crashed into the wall. He heard a sickening crack as his skull banged into the wall. Nico inclined his head but even that slight movement sent pain through every nerve of his body.
He just lay there, helpless as one of the serpent's head attacked. And suddenly it wasn't there. It landed beside Nico with a sickening thud.
Percy was standing on his own little hurricane, towering over the now-one-headed monster, with Riptide in his hand.
"Take that!" he yelled, taking another go at the creatures head.
Nico saw a flickering movement and opened his mouth. But it was too late. The monster's tail cut through the water, pinning Percy to the ground. It raised his head to attack and-
WHAM!
There was a huge burst of golden light, which left the creature dazed. Surprised, Nico managed to turn his head, cursing at the pain and was amazed at what he saw.
There stood Char, with a determined expression on her face and a glowing yellow sword in her hand. Her mouth was set in a grim line which opened as she spoke.
"You will not hurt my friends."
The next few moments were dazzling. Char charged the monster as a powerful beams of light shot from her hand, pinning the dazzled monster. The monster tried to bite back but Char kept deflecting it with her sword and in the end, she landed a nice blow to it's neck and the monster disintegrated.
Nico's mouth fell open, unable to believe what had just happened.
He could see Percy from the corner of his eyes. He was up again but he looked so baffled you could have run a sword through him and he wouldn't have noticed.
Char turned to see Nico and the sword fell from her hand as she ran towards him.
"Nico!" she cried, landing beside him.
Her voice trembled and she started crying.
"Oh my god, this is all my fault, Nico can you hear me?"
Nico managed an "Ahhmm", and relief could be seen in her features.
The next second Percy was beside Nico too and was thrusting a liquid into his mouth. Nico drank till he felt energy coursing through him and thought that he would spontaneously combust.
He blinked and tenderly stretched his limbs. They were alright, but...
"I might have cracked my skull", he said, out aloud.
"Might!"Percy echoed.
"You slammed into the wall with so much force, I'm so happy that you are alive!"
"Char", Nico spoke.
"What you did right now..."
"I know", she whispered, still sniffling.
"It was my fault that monster appeared, I could have got you killed! I can never forgive myself after-"
"Char", Percy interrupted.
"You are a half-blood."
"A what?"
"A demigod", Percy repeated.
Char blinked at him.
"I know that, but how do you-"
"Because we are half-bloods too", Percy exclaimed.
Char's jaw fell and she eyed the duo.
Percy uncapped Riptide and a ball of water appeared in his hands.
"I'm a son of Poseidon and Nico is a son of Hades."
"Oh my god", Char whispered.
"You're the first ones I've ever met!"
Suddenly something clicked in Nico's mind.
"But both your parents are mortal!" he exclaimed.
Char shook her head.
"My dad is mortal and my mother is my step-mother. My real mother is Hemera, goddess of day-light."
"That explains everything", Percy whispered, as the truth dawned on him.
"But how did you know you are a half-blood, I mean a demi-god", Nico inquired.
"My mother left me this", Char said, touching her sword, which shrank to a pendant.
"And when monsters started coming from me realized I was a demigod. I knew enough of history to conclude it. I brought more books on mythology and stuff and found Hermes Express which sells awesome stuff! But mom hadn't told dad anything and when I broke the truth to him he refused to believe it and said I was a monster", she said, her voice hollow.
"You can come with us", Percy said, suddenly.
"Nico, Char can come to Camp-Half Blood!!!"
"Holy Hera!" Nico cried.
"It's a camp for people like us, demigods", Percy explained, telling Char about the various activities and cabins and friends that she would make.
"Come with us", Nico insisted.
"It's the only place for us. A place where you can be who you really are."
With shining eyes Char nodded.
"I will. I'll come with you to Camp Half-Blood."
The duo cheered and Char laughed through her tears as they ended up in a group hug.
Being a demigod turned out to be the best thing in her life.
And that's it! This story is officially completed!
Did you all expect the fact that Char is a half-blood?
I had it planned since the beginning ;)
Hope everyone liked this book, I loved writing it! There will be an epilogue soon enough but I wouldn't be writing a sequel.
Until then, Keep Reading and VOTE & COMMENT!
