Chapter 5

You felt your face heat like you just downed a whole bowl of spicy chili. A wave of heat moved down your body. You soon came to the conclusion that you whatever this girl wanted, you had to give it to her. And quick.

"Please," you began, unsure of whether you should be looking in her eyes or at her nearing sword. "Don't...don't hurt me."

"You're not in the position to be giving orders," she said. Her words had no humor. She took no joy in scaring you; she was only doing what she had to. That made her more dangerous because it meant she had something to fight for. You did not.

"I'll tell you everything. Remove the sword. Please."

Her sharp eyes gazed up and down your body. You felt like they could do a better search than the heavy pat downs airport securities give.

When she decided you were unarmed, she dropped her sword behind her. It clashed to the ground.

As she lowered herself, her eyes and voice softened until she didn't appear to be a total machine. "You're either an exceptional actress or an innocent. For your sake, I hope you're the latter. You wouldn't want anything bad to happen, would you?"

You shook your head.

"What's your name?" she asked as she sat on the ground.

You crossed your legs and sat up to face her. You felt like she was approachable. "(Y/N)."

"Hello, (Y/N). I am Annabeth. Do you mind telling me if you are hurt?"

"I-" you started as you shifted all your body parts to check for any pain. "No. I'm normal. I'm a little confused though."

She nodded. "Can you tell me what you know?"

"Well, I know how to read and write. I can also do this thing with my tongue--"

"That's really cool, but let's focus on understanding how you got here," she smiled. "Now, what do you know about how you got here?"

"I don't know how I got here, but I do know why I am here. I found this book online. It was about wanting a spy? I thought that would be a cool book to read. But, when I accepted the offer...that's all I can remember," you explained.

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but you found a book. Then five minutes later you wake up on a flying ship?" Her eyebrows tilted in such a way, you were too enraptured by their perfection to be offended.

"Yes. There was this person called 'Leader'. Leader was talking about making a better world and these three rules... Leader was threatening and was pretty serious about those rules. Anyway, Leader introduced me to Hunter, and he wrote an entry. He was all really desperate and stuff..."

"Was he weird with emojis?"

"No, but his words practically screamed 'I don't know you but I already love you'. He might have some mental issues, I don't know," you shrugged. "Anyway, he told me about a group of people I had to become friends with. He wanted me to gain their trust and win them over as allies."

"And how is that going so far?"

"To be honest, when I get home, I'm deleting Wattpad. All I wanted was some cute fluff. If I wanted to get kidnapped and wake up without knowing where I am, I would have downloaded Tinder."

"You shouldn't spend so much time on your phone--"

"I know, I know. I should be socializing like a human being," you rolled your eyes, already knowing the lecture.

"No, I was going to say you're attracting monsters. Big ones. Unless you're normal, in which case I'm jealous. Wait, how many fingers am I holding up?" she asked as she held up her hand.

"Two," you respond.

Annabeth's eyes widened.

"What? Was it only one? Do I have double vision or something?" you began to worry.

"No, it's nothing like that," she assured you. She stood up and shouted. "LEO!"

A few seconds later, you heard a response. "YES?!"

"COME!" she demanded. There was no questioning who the captain of this ship was.

A scrawny, elf-like boy came running to the scene. "I knew there was something I was forgetting. I swear I need to hire a manager," he was mumbling to himself.

"No, Leo, we have an emergency," she started to explain, but then decided to leave you alone and talk to him privately.

While they talked, their eyes rarely made contact. They couldn't help but keep glancing at you through their discussion. When they realized you noticed their staring, they avoided looking at you and awkwardly stared at each other. You pushed yourself off the ground and decided to get an idea of where you were. You walked to the nearest wall, expecting to see a vast ocean. Instead, no matter how close you got to the wall, the ocean did not appear.

When you finally reached the wall that reached to your shoulders, you looked over it. You did not see the ocean. You saw clouds.

You realized what was going on with Annabeth and Leo. They were trying to figure out how to hide that from you. They were trying to figure out if they should land the boat in the ocean or keep you inside so you wouldn't notice. You away from the boat's side. You weren't sure if you would get in trouble for knowing too much.

"Hey! (Y/N)! Get away from there!" Leo called.

"(Y/N)! Come over here." Annabeth waved you over.

You walked over to the strangers, unsure of what they decided. Annabeth smiled. It was a warm smile, but it was chilling since you knew there was so much you didn't know. "We're having dinner soon, would you like to join us?" she asked.

"Hold on, Annabeth. Today has probably been weird, maybe we should allow (Y/N) to rest?" Leo mentioned.

Annabeth looked like she wanted to protest, but she stopped herself. "Of course, I understand. (Y/N), would you rather rest? I'm sure Leo would be more than happy to bring you food later so you won't starve."
