Chapter 4

The girl lowered her sword, its sharp point flirted with your neck. You lifted your chin, hoping the extra inch would put you out of the sword's range. Your breaths came in gasps as you squeezed your eyes and fists shut. "Please, I don't know anything," you begged.

You felt the sword brush against your neck. "How about you tell me what you do know?"

"I'm super scared of sharp things, especially when they are pointed at me," you said. "Please, I don't know where I am."

You heard something heavy drop on the ground. You opened your eyes to see the sword on the ground behind the girl. "You are one good actress, but I'm not quite buying it."

"What would you like to know?"

"How did you get here? Who sent you? Why did they send you?" she questioned.

You recalled what Hunter had told you. He warned you to not tell them about your mission or about them. He seemed to have implied that if you didn't do what he said, there would be consequences. You weren't eager to find out what those might be.

"If I knew the answers, believe me, I would spill them out right now. You are extremely intimidating. You should consider being an interrogator," you say, lifting your arms in surrender.

"It's all in the eyebrows," she smiled. "My name is Annabeth, sorry about the introduction. I've just had bad experiences with strangers, they turn out to be monsters most of the time."

"Where are you from?" you asked. You didn't typically have trouble with mean people, but she made it sound like most people were mean to her.

Annabeth's smile wavered. "Leo, come over here," she called out.

You sat up as an elvish-looking boy came from behind a door. Soot covered his raggy, over-sized clothes. One of his hands gripped a side of his heavy tool belt, keeping his pants from sagging. His smile was quirky like he was thinking of a funny online post he saw earlier.

"Aw, how did you know I was here?" he complained jokingly. "I thought I was sneaky."

"Don't flatter yourself. I could smell the burnt oil on you," she rolled her eyes. His eyes widened as he smelled his shoulder. "Ah, yes. My manliness seems to have a scent of its own," he breathed. "Who's your friend? Is she single?"

"Don't bother her," Annabeth defended you. "All I know is her name is (Y/N), yet I can already tell she is out of your league."

"(Y/N)...I like that name. (Y/N) Valdez, it has a nice ring to it, don't you think? Here," he paused to take off his glove to reveal his hand. It must have been the one part of his body without soot. He held out his hand and offered to help you up.
