Leo Valdez: Dragons

It was the first day of summer break and Camp Half-Blood finally began to burst with life.  After the past months, it was nice to reunite with former friends.

At least, that's how most campers felt.  You, on the other hand, arrived to camp during the fall months and knew only a few people out of the Hermes cabin.  Understandably, crowds of strangers discomforted you, so you avoided them by reading a book.

You were no stranger to disruption so you knew that you couldn't simply read your book on your bed.  You had to avoid human interaction at all costs if you were to avoid distractions.  So, you did what any other book worm would do: sneak into the dangerous forest and read.

You sped through (Y/F/B), absorbing all the words.  Your eyes were sore from the intense workout, yet the book grasped your attention like no other.  You refused to blink, afraid that you'd loose your place if you did.

When you reached the part where a character died, your eyesight became blurred.  You cursed the author as you wiped your eyes, but the tears kept coming.

"My feels," you whispered.  "I think that author just stabbed my feels."

You continued to read until you felt tingling on your legs.  You looked down to see that a few sugar ants managed to climb onto you.

You threw your book and jumped up, smacking your legs to get rid of the annoying insects.  "I just can't read anywhere without distractions, now can I?" you growled.

"Do you mind if I distract you?" a voice interrupted your moment.

You looked up to see a tall latino wearing sexy overalls that showed off his muscular arms.  Or at least, that's what he thought he looked like.

You saw a scrawny Latino that looked like he couldn't gain weight if he tried.  He wore an oil-stained t-shirt that had phrases like "Team Leo" and "Hot Stuff" written on it in marker.

He leaned against one arm on a tree, holding the book that you had thrown earlier in his other hand.

You fisted your hands, angered by his appearance.  You had gone into the woods to avoid people like him, yet they show up anyway.

"Yes, I do mind," you answered.  "Do you mind giving me back my book?"

"Yes, I do mind," he smirked.  "What are you doing here?"

"Regretting my decision of reading here," you admitted.

"I was just leaving Bunker Nine-"

"I don't care," you interrupted him.  "Give me back my book."

He examined at the cover of the book.  "(Y/F/B)" he read the title out loud.  "What's so great about books?  I always get distracted before I reach the second paragraph."

You sighed and made an attempt to get the book back, but he easily dodged you, holding it high.  "You should get your nose out of books-"

"And you need to get your head out of your butt!" you interrupted him.  You held out your hands, waiting for him to give you the book.  You hated to get your hands dirty.

"You didn't let me finish," he explained, lowering the book, but not handing it to you. "You shouldn't be reading here.  You're asking to get hunted."

"And so are you.  Book," you demanded.

He looked thoughtfully at the book and then up at you.  "My name is Leo, what's yours?"

"Book.  Now," you repeated.

"Alright, Book Now.  Funny how you like reading so much and your name is Book.  Ironic," he joked.  "You're probably a daughter of Athena."

"What?  I have to be related to Athena to appreciate literature?" you asked.  He began to explain himself, but you cut him off.  "It doesn't matter, I'm undetermined."

"Why do you want this book so badly?  From the looks of it, it made you cry," Leo pointed out, referring to your reddened eyes.

You wiped your eyes, suddenly aware of your appearance.  "It doesn't matter, just give me the book."

"A character died, right?" he asked.  You simply glared at him.  "No, no, I get it.  I build things and I built this dragon.  I named him Festus-"

"Hold up," you interrupted him.  "I don't know much latin, but did you just say that you named a dragon...'Happy'?"

"Yeah, it's a cool name.  Anyway, this ice witch just came up and freaking killed him and...sure.  I know it's just a machine, but I still felt attached..." he trailed off.  He then began to stutter as he said "but I guess that isn't, I'm-that's not the same thing-"

You shook your head at his sudden nervousness.  "You built a dragon?"

"He's in my workshop right now-well at least I'm working on-"

"I want to see!"

His eyes lit up.  "Really?" he grinned.  "What about your book?"

"I think I can wait," you explained.  "Dragons."
