Jason Grace: Love is Blind

You sat crisscrossed on the bottom bunk, hunched over the weekly crossword puzzle. Your eyes squinted at the hint for Down 23.

"God of war during ancient times?" you read out loud. "Gods, Ares and Mars can fit," you thought to yourself. "Which one do you want, you owl pellet?"

You glanced down at the note at the bottom that pointed to the next page, promising that it wouldn't tell if you peeked at the answers.  You ripped your eyes from it.  You considered peeking to be cowardly.  "I'll figure it out.  It's only a matter of time," you told yourself.

A racket developed outside. It sounded like someone dropped a sandbag on the stairs outside the door. "Aw man," someone worriedly said on the other side of the door. "I should've mentioned the stairs."

From what you heard, you could tell that someone had just tripped on the stairs.  You didn't know why one friend felt like he had to warn his friend about the stairs, but you too focused on the crossword to care.

"You think?" another guy grunted.  You figured that it must've been the guy that fell onto the stairs. "Don't worry about it, bro. Give me a hand."

You tried to ignore the ruckus of the boys as you looked back to the puzzle. You focused on Down 23 for a few more seconds before deciding to move to the next hint.

The door gently opened and two teenagers entered. Their loud footsteps distracted you, so you looked toward the door to see the problem.

You had to take a double-take when you saw them. The blonde had an arm around the other's shoulders and walked as though his legs were numb. The other kid had messy black hair and struggled to keep his balance while assisting his friend. "What does she look like?"

The blonde squinted at nothing as he thought. "Um, I think her hair was (h/c)."

"Was it short?  Was it curly?  I need more than just a hair color," his friend responded, rolling his emerald-green eyes.

The blind fellow shook his head, completely stumped.  "I didn't have my glasses.  I couldn't see," he admitted.

"The Minotaur has better eyes than you, dude," his friend teased.

You recognized the blonde to be the guy that had crashed near you a few hours ago. He was the son of Jupiter, and was flying when his glasses fell off and landed on your head. Almost immediately, a body came falling down in front of you. You weren't really into guys, but even you could tell that this guy was cute. If it weren't for the scars that marked parts of him and how he looked dirty, you would've mistaken him for a god.

While he landed in one piece, his glasses didn't.  The metal rims were bent awkwardly in four different directions.  You pitied the blind fellow and offered to fix his glasses.  He accepted.

You contemplated whether you should wait until the black-haired friend realized that you were the only one in the cabin with that hair color or just come out and save them time.

"I just remembered, she was wearing a gray shirt," the blonde said.

"Okay, that's a start.  How about a name?"

You shut the crossword book and leaned over to your nightstand.  You picked up the repaired glasses and stood up.  "The name is Y/N," you announced.  The black-haired guy slightly jumped at the sudden disruption.  "It took a bit of configuration, but they should be able to do the job."

The guys started to walk toward you, but you stopped them.  "Stop, it's painful to watch you two try to get around," you said as you walked toward them.  You stopped a few feet away from them and you held the glasses to the blonde.

The blonde grabbed at empty air as he tried to find his glasses.  You grabbed his forearm with your other hand and placed the glasses in his hand.

As he put his glasses on, you asked, "How do they feel?  Do they feel crooked?"

Behind his glasses, his eyes stopped squinting.  When his blue eyes landed on you, they widened.  "Uh, wow."

"Yeah, I bet that it's nice to finally be able to see," you smiled.

The blonde looked at his friend, then back at you, then back to his friend.  "What?" he asked, confused.

"Yeah," he nodded, flicking his black hair out of his eyes.  "A pretty girl is actually talking to you.  That happens when you're a hero."

The blonde blushed as you rose your eyebrows at the green-eyed friend.

"Hero?" you questioned.  "You mean that you conquered a video game or maybe saved a kitten from a tree?"

"You don't know about Jason freaking Grace?" he asked, causing the blonde to redden further.

"That's an odd middle name...'Freaking', who came up with that middle name?" you asked.

"Dude, she doesn't even know about you," Jason's friend told him.

"Thanks for fixing my glasses," Jason thanked you before grabbing his friend's arm.

"If she doesn't know who you are, do you think that she knows me?" he asked himself.  "But don't worry, Jason.  I wouldn't want to...steal your thunder."

As Jason blushed his way out of the cabin while his friend erupted in busts of laughter, you watched them leave.  You stared at the door long after they left before deciding to go back to the crossword puzzle.  "Okay, now Down 24.  'Goddess of Love,' that's easy."
