Instructions for dancing-Nicola Yoon

5/5 stars

I'm not going to have any other bolded preamble, because I say everything I want to say in the actual review. Except, don't read the beginning when you are eating. Just some advice.

This book gave my heart a workout. It first enlarged my heart, then ripped it out, tore it into little pieces, then sewed it back together and shoved it back in. (sorry for the graphic image.)

Some of you may know (probably not, though) that I enjoy the occasional romance centric story. I particularly enjoy a Yoon book. A Yoon book is a book by either David or Nicola Yoon. Typically, a Yoon book will include a couple in their senior year of high school, which means they are adults, but just barely. One other thing, there is always a biracial couple. Usually, they are the main focus for at least part of the story. In this case, it isn't. Let me apologize for the long, rambling gushfest, go into the actual review.

Evie, our heroine is a former lover of romance novels, thus she is very trope savvy, which makes it even funnier when she starts falling for X (short for Xavier, by the way) this hipster, rocker, looks like a jerk, but actually has a heart of gold. The fantasy element was interesting as well. Evie gains the power to see a couples romantic past, present, and future when they kiss. Another thing, I always recommend reading the acknowledgments, but for this one you should read them before you start reading the story.

In conclusion, this was delightful, trope aware, well written, and a joy to read. That's why I gave it five stars.
