A Date
"It's almost dinner time." He told her.
"Yeah. Eating will be interesting. People seem to enjoy it, is it fun?"
He chuckled. "Sometimes." He thought for a minute. "What do you want to try?"
"Hm.... Maybe a grilled chicken salad?"
He smiled. "Okay." He stood up, walked to his closet and looked in its mirror. He straightened out his clothes and his hair. "Come on Delores, we're going out."
"Going out?"
"Yes, on a date."
"Oh, okay! I would dress up but I don't have anything else to wear..."
"You look beautiful no matter what you wear! We can buy some clothes after. Come on!"
Delores smiled as she blushed more. "Thanks!"
The two of them walked down the stairs hand-in-hand with smiles on their faces.
They didn't watch the stairs but looked into each other's eyes instead. They knew that even though they would go through trials that they could make it through all of them with trust and love.
They went out to a restaurant, and spent two hours eating because they spent a lot of time talking and laughing. After the waiter left the table, laughed about the his curly mustache and the choice of decor.
"It looks like it might hop off his face and run up a tree!" Five began.
Delores smiled. "It is very bushy."
"And polka dots? Really? It's a fine choice for a blouse pattern but a whole restaurant? Pretty tacky."
Delores laughed. She found him so charming and loved the way he looked into her eyes like she was the only girl in the world.
They talked about plans for the future and the apocalypse, Delores assured him that he could help his family survive this time.
"I'm not so sure, they're so difficult... Though we worked together for years, it's like they all resented it so much that even if it's important they likely won't be willing to form a team again. We were never the most functional team."
"It'll be okay. I know you can get them to listen."
He sighed and smiled half-heartedly "Thanks."
Then they went to the store and both tried on clothes. They goofed around with various poses, making each other laugh.
"Would you actually wear that?" She asked him after he tried on a particularly whimsical outfit.
He laughed. "No, I just thought it would be hilarious! And I was right! Look at your face!" He exclaimed as his body shook with laughter.
Five thought Delores looked good in anything she put on. Delores scoffed at this.
"Are you going to say that I look stunning in everything?"
"Honestly?"
"Obviously."
"Yes." He smiled dreamily.
They both tried on at least thirty outfits and bought at least ten. They took a taxi back to the house.
When they walked in, Five made a shhh noise because it was late, Delores laughed, causing Five to laugh too.
"Oh come on!" He said to her while pulling her up the stairs less than stealthily. They struggled not to laugh as they walked to the bedroom.
Five discarded all but his shirt upon walking in, leaving Delores staring at him. He flushed darkly. He smiled at her. Then he turned off the light and got into bed. He held out his hand to her.
"Aren't you coming?"
She smiled and nodded. She laid next to him and cuddled into his shoulder. He wrapped his arms around her, the way he always did. This time though, she held him back. They both smiled as they drifted off to sleep.
