i hope someone told you that you weren't being self-centered when you said you needed time to yourself.

that it's okay to refuse to be someone's emotional support when you feel like you can't even support yourself. it's always okay to say no.

i hope you know that healing shouldn't be followed by regret.

you don't have to let someone else's sorrow swallow you whole to show them that you care. you don't have to drown in someone else's tears when you're too exhausted to stay on the surface.
wearing a smile as an illusion over your battered skin before stepping in isn't the only way to let people know that you would stand by them.

so if no one told you any of this, here it is. it's okay to say no. you're not selfish. it's okay to not be okay enough to comfort someone. you're not cold. it's okay.
