Chapter two: A new life
I stare at the man, in shock. I take in his face, a pair of bright green eyes, a well-sculpted face. A face, I had robbed not too long ago. When I decided to hit up a more prosperous neighbor, in desperate need of money. Otherwise, I wouldn't have risked robbing someone from there. Too many cameras and witnesses in that area. I spotted him, a straightforward target. Almost too easy, not paying any attention and his wallet laying beside him as he napped in a chair. I should have known something was up. Eyeing his face now though, he doesn't look one bit mad. Instead, he seems like a proud father. Huh, proud and father. That's two words I never thought I would hear together. At least not with my life.
" So you're not mad at me, for stealing your money?" I ask still scared.
" No, on the contrary, your skills will be beneficial to us." The man chuckles at my confused expression.
" What are you guys some sort of gang?" I ask.
" Like I would ever be part of some low life gang." Ace smirks at my angered expression.
He obviously was just an over-privileged prick, he didn't know the struggles kids on the street went through. Some had to join a gang or starve to death. At least the gangs took better care of the kids, more than their parents ever did. I don't know what this guy's problem is but if he doesn't shut up. I'm going to beat his ass, he doesn't look as tough as Gunner. So I might be able to take him.
" Ace, don't be such an ass." The man reprimands making me smirk.
" Whatever, we are definitely better than a gang." Ace mutters bitterly.
" Then what exactly do you guys do?" I ask.
" Well Axel, we're spies," Foxy states bluntly.
" Spies?!" I ask scared.
" We're not exactly spies, we train troubled kids such as yourself, to use your abilities for good. " The man shoots Foxy a look.
" To do what exactly?" I asked still not quite following.
" Basically we're a secret branch of the FBI, we use you guys for missions that require certain skills." The boss smiles proudly at this.
" So basically, you want to use my stealing skills for your missions?" I ask.
" Yes, we plan on training you on other things as well, but that's mainly why we need you." The man smiles kindly at me.
" Can we speed this up are you in or not, baby face?" Ace asks impatiently.
I scowl at the nickname, I can't help that I look younger than my age. This asshole wasn't going to let that go.
" I don't know, what's in it for me?" I ask.
" Come on baby face, you're homeless, you'll have food and a place to stay." Ace rolls his eyes.
" You'll also be getting paid for each task you complete." The boss sends Ace another stern look, to which Ace just rolls his eyes at. I can see what Sneak meant by attitude problem, this boy had a stick up his butt. It definitely wasn't the fun kind either.
" Okay, I'll join it beats being on the streets," I say trying to shrug nonchalantly, but on the inside, I feel so happy at the thought of actually having a real bed.
" That's great, Foxy will update you on her team." The man grins excitedly.
" Wait, baby face is joining our team!" Ace exclaims, annoyed.
" No shit dumb ass, why do you think we're here with him," Gunner speaks out for the first time since the boss entered the room.
" Great, someone else to piss me off." Ace wrinkles his nose up in annoyance.
" I look forward to working with you too," I mutter sarcastically.
" Ace cut the shit and Foxy, please take Axel here to his new room." The boss snaps his fingers at both of them.
Before I exit the room, I realize I never even got his name.
" Hey wait, you never told me your name." I turn back around.
" You can just call me Chief." The man, Chief smiles.
I follow Foxy out of the door, shaking my head.
" These names aren't your real names, are they?" I ask curiously.
" Nope, they're code names, so we don't accidentally give away our identities on a mission," Foxy says as she leads me down another hallway.
" Will I get one?" I ask.
" Eventually, now will you please stop asking questions, you're giving me a headache." She says annoyed.
I huff but hold back the rest of my questions. I'm curious about what earned them, their code names. I could tell it wasn't random, that they were named for specific attributes or skills. I was especially curious about Ace's, man that kid really hated me. Then again, he seemed to hate everyone. I don't really care if anyone liked me or not. I'm not very good at making or keeping friends. People said I had an attitude problem. Shit, I guess I really am like him. Nah, while I'm a dick. I haven't gotten to his level of dick head yet.
We finally made it to my room, which looked very similar to the place I originally was in. Only this one, was slightly bigger. There were even some clothes laid out on the bed that looked closer to my size. I looked down at the clothes I was wearing now curiously.
" Why didn't you guys, just give me those clothes?" I ask as I hold up my pants.
" Gunner said he wanted to see someone cute, wear his clothes." She rolls her eyes.
I felt myself blush at her words, but I quickly covered it up. I refuse to blush like a prepubescent girl over some boy. I didn't have time to fall for anyone. Sure, he was attractive, but those were the most dangerous kind. That's what got me in trouble with my last boyfriend. I frown trying to push the memories of him away, they were way too painful.
" You're gay, aren't you?" She asks once again very bluntly. Man, this girl wasn't afraid to say anything. It was like, she lacked a filter. Not that I minded, at least I knew she was honest.
" Problem?" I ask eyebrow raised.
" No, I just thought, I should warn you about Ace and Gunner." She smirks.
"What are they homophobic?" I ask annoyed at the thought of having to deal with that.
" No, they're both bisexual, and both are playboys." She says.
" I can see people sleeping with Gunner but Ace?" I ask looking at her incredulously.
" He may be a dick, but he's pretty good in bed. "She smirks.
" Ewww, you slept with him." I crinkle my nose in disgust.
" Yes, I don't really believe in relationships so I can sleep with no attachments. "
" Why are you telling me all this?" I ask.
" Axel, unlike me you seem like the type to get easily attached." She smiles sadly.
" Trust me, I will not be falling for either of them." I huff stubbornly.
" Just be careful please, you seem like a sweet guy." Foxy ruffles my hair, walking towards the door.
" Get some sleep, someone will bring you some food later." She smiles.
" You'll get started on your training tomorrow morning." She walks out, leaving me alone.
She actually wasn't as bad, as I initially thought. I could kind of see her as an ally, later on. I smile, the way she ruffled my hair reminded me of my big sister. The thought of my older sister, causes me to frown. I go lay down, trying to find sleep. Instead, I end up lost in the dark memories of my past. Soon enough, I finally fall asleep. Nothing happy waits for me in my dreams, only darkness.
